J.Cole – “Return of Simba”
Speaking at a press conference for this year’s BET Awards, he explained that there would be “no more hold up” on the still-untitled album. The Boombox has also pointed out that the album’s first single has a “summertime” vibe, and that Cole understands the frustrations of fans that have been waiting for the album. “I know my fans are frustrated,” he said, “[the album] is coming soon, and it’s really true – we’re in the final stages now.” Hell, he even acknowledges the delay on “Simba”. “I only make classics/now what that take –timing,” he raps at the end of the song, “Cole under pressure/now what that make – diamonds.”
Only time will tell, but fans can stream the new song below. They can also catch Cole on tour with Rihanna and Cee-Lo this summer, as well as at the Bonnaroo and Wireless music festivals.

The Most Serene Republic – “Home of the Rebels”
The song, which shares its name with MSR’s personal record label, features some gentle acoustic strumming over Adrian Jewett’s unsteady, wounded vocals and a lot of rain.
“Home of the Rebels” is available as a free download below. While you’re at it, you can download a copy of another album track, “Zoltar Speaks”, at MSR’s website.

Stephin Merritt - “Forever And A Day”
Frontman Stephin Merritt doesn’t get why people use The Magnetic Fields‘ “The Book of Love” for weddings. Merritt feels that his band simply has better songs to choose from. “When people use ‘The Book of Love’ as a wedding song, I want to scream, ‘But I have a better one!’” The song in question is “Forever And A Day”, off the aptly-titled Obscurities collection Merritt has coming out August 23rd.
