Peter Gabriel - New Blood (album stream)

Peter Gabriel set a strict rule for his 2010 world tour: no guitars or drums. Instead, he was backed by a 46-piece orchestra as he re-imagined his back catalog. He was so inspired by the result that he brought the orchestra into the studio and re-recorded 14 versions of songs from his back catalog.

The result is New Blood, which hits stores on October 11th. You can stream it in full below.

His 1980 deep track "Intruder" was originally propelled by Phil Collins' drums, but it now has a totally different power. "Now it sounds menacing," Gabriel tells Rolling Stone. "I was really pleased with that one."

"These songs definitely felt new again because the arrangements were quite different from the original," says Gabriel. "'San Jacinto' is one that I really got to feel again by taking out the drums and putting in strings and the orchestra. The same goes for 'Rhythm Of The Heat.'"

Press Release
On Oct. 11, Peter Gabriel will release a new full-length album titled New Blood. The album features Gabriel reworking some of his old songs, this time with the New Blood Orchestra. John Metcalfe arranged the music and Ben Foster conducted. A press release said the idea wasn’t simply to rework old songs, but to pick songs that would benefit from a full-on string treatment.

The album includes a reworked version of some of Gabriel’s songs, including “Wallflower” from the album of the same name and “Mercy Street” from the album “So.”

The album will be available as a single-disc album or a 2-CD set that includes an added disc of instrumentals. There will also be a concert DVD, “New Blood – Live in London,” which will be available in 3D, Blu-Ray and standard DVD.
