Following on from their seminal Light As A Feather LP, Outubro (October) was originally released in 1980 and began Azymuth’s run of prolific output for Milestone Records throughout the decade. Typifying the consummate craftsmanship of the three members’ performances - each with such distinct personality and together so perfectly balanced - their perfectionist attitude to sound is maintained across the production on the album, beautifully colouring the expressionist fusion of samba rhythm, jazz progression, funk attitude and psychedelic electronics.

The album hosts a wonderful mix of tempos and styles, from Alex Malheiros’ earth-shaking slap-bass on ‘Dear Limmertz’, which was to become a hit on London’s underground disco and jazz-dance club scenes alike, to the late maestro Jose Roberto Bertrami’s genial melodic Rhodes excursions on the vocoder laden, samba-jazz masterpiece ‘Un Amigo’, while Ivan ‘Mamao’ Conti’s signature swing on ‘Maracana’ exemplifies the root of Azymuth’s ‘samba doidoi’ (crazy samba) philosophy.

The two cover versions on the album are the title track which was originally penned by Milton Nascimento, and Chick Corea’s, ‘500 Miles High’, both of which magically reimagine the originals and further demonstrate the immense virtuosity of this cult recording.

The follow-up to 2008's 'Butterfly' draws on the sound that was so synonymous with their work in the 1980s, mixing disco, jazz, funk, psych, and samba with their super style, playing, and improvisation. Together with producer Daniel Maunick and David Brinkworth (Harmonic 313), Azymuth recorded Aurora in Rio de Janeiro over a two week period. Opening the set is the cool, fresh title track 'Aurora', which features Alex's daughter and fellow Far Out recording artist Sabrina Malheiros on vocals alongside Marcio Lott. 'In My Treehouse' is an extremely personal track written by Bertrami, which is influenced by his oak tree and dreams that recall his childhood playing in a tree house in his mother's hometown. 'Isso É Partido Alto' encapsulates the sound of Azymuth, the focus on their signature groove, partido alto (one of the oldest traditional samba rhythms). 'Diz No Pé' is a samba monster combining broken drumming with syncopated samba instrumentation, written by Ivan Conti. 'Carnaval Legrand' is dedicated to one of José Roberto Bertrami's peers -- the great Franco-Armenian arranger and composer Michel Legrand, while 'Meu Mengô' is inspired by Alex Malheiros' football team -- Flamengo -- another passion shared with his Azymuth band-mates.

Three decades after Azymuth made their first tentative steps into bossa nova society, BRAZILIAN SOUL is a return to their blistering form of the early '80s. The new album sees them borrowing from the musical vocabulary that has always been one of the most exciting narratives of Brazilian music, as well as indulging their enthusiasm for new sounds that still makes them heroes and inspirations to a generation of 21st Century producers, from 4Hero to Masters At Work. They have linked up again with a truly great cast of celebrated Brazilian performers, some who were there at the genesis of Azymuth, and some who hitched a ride during the last 30 years – any history of Brazilian music that didn’t include names featured on the album like Roberto Menescal, Fabiola, Emilio Santiago and Marcio Lott wouldn’t be one to be trusted. Although their sound hails from the tropical funk scene which emerged in Rio in the mid '70s, their music is still as pertinent now as was then – their live shows demonstrate that the percussive furnace which drives their sound is still burning bright.

Azymuth – Jose Roberto Bertrami, Ivan Conti, and Alex Malheiros & Ariovaldo - formed in the late 60s and went on to become one of the worlds most recognised jazz bands, creating a futuristic, electric interpretation of US Jazz.

Azymuth went on to become one of the best-selling jazz artists of the 80s with their future albums for Milestones, unquestionably the biggest jazz label of that decade. ‘Azimuth’ is the album that kickstarted it all for them, the album contains some of the band’s most incendiary tracks, and is the record that was the blue print and definition of their ‘samba doido / crazy samba’ sound.

Samuel "Sam" Ervin Beam (born July 26, 1974), better known by his stage and recording name Iron & Wine, is an American singer-songwriter. He has released six studio albums, several EPs and singles, as well as a few download-only releases, which include a live album (a recording of his 2005 Bonnaroo performance). He occasionally tours with a full band.

Beam was raised in South Carolina before moving to Virginia and then Florida to attend school. He now resides in Durham, North Carolina. The name Iron & Wine is taken from a dietary supplement named "Beef, Iron & Wine" that he found in a general store while shooting a film.

The Shepherd's Dog is the third full-length studio album by Iron & Wine, released on September 25, 2007. If bought at select retailers or if pre-ordered through Sub Pop, the album comes with a bonus disc featuring two unreleased tracks. "Boy with a Coin" is the first single and was released on July 10, 2007 via Sub Pop, including the single edit of the song along with two other tracks.

The album debuted at number 24 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Beach House is an American dream pop duo formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 2004. The band consists of vocalist and keyboardist Victoria Legrand and guitarist, keyboardist, and backup vocalist Alex Scally.

Baroness is an American heavy metal band from Savannah, Georgia whose original members grew up together in Lexington, Virginia.

Baroness started recording their first full-length album in March 2007. Phillip Cope from Kylesa continued to produce Baroness on this album. The Red Album was released on September 4, 2007. and met positive reception. Heavy metal magazine Revolver named it Album of the Year.

Converge is an American hardcore punk band formed by vocalist Jacob Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts in 1990.[1][2] During the recording of their seminal fourth album Jane Doe, the group became a four-piece with the departure of guitarist Aaron Dalbec and the addition of bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. Mavis Staples (born July 10, 1939) is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer, actress, and civil rights activist. She has recorded and performed with her family's band The Staple Singers, and also as a solo artist.

Staples was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.

If All I Was Was Black is the eleventh solo studio album by Mavis Staples. It was released on November 17, 2017, via Anti-Records. The album was written and produced by Jeff Tweedy, who also features on the fourth track.

The album consists of 11 songs, written by Jeff Tweedy. Staples said about the album "(It) bring us all together as a people. That's what I hope to do. You can't stop me. You can't break me. I'm too loving. These songs are going to change the world." Tweedy described the message of the album: "I’ve always thought of art as a political statement in and of itself - that it was enough to be on the side of creation and not destruction. But there is something that feels complicit at this moment in time about not facing what is happening in this country head on."

Hot Snakes are an American post-hardcore band led by Rick Froberg and John Reis, formed in 1999 in San Diego, California. Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu, after which Reis had found international success with Rocket from the Crypt. Hot Snakes disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2011.

Automatic Midnight is the first studio album by the San Diego, California post-hardcore band Hot Snakes, released in 2000 by Swami Records. Both the band and the album began as a "side project" for John Reis in June 1999, during time off from his main band Rocket From the Crypt. Reis wrote and recorded a batch of songs in San Diego with Delta 72 drummer Jason Kourkounis. To provide vocals for the tracks Reis called in Rick Froberg, whom he had played with in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu from 1986 to 1995. Most of the material from these sessions was used to create Automatic Midnight, which became the first release for Reis' newly formed Swami Records label.

As a visual artist and illustrator Froberg provided all of the artwork for the album. Although the artwork and cover themselves are black on white, the CD release is packaged in a translucent orange jewel case and the LP in translucent orange shrink wrap, giving the packaged album an orange color.

Glen Hansard (born 21 April 1970) is an Irish songwriter, actor, vocalist and guitarist for Irish group The Frames, and one half of folk rock duo The Swell Season. He is also known for his acting, having appeared in the BAFTA-winning film The Commitments, as well as starring in the film Once, which earned him a number of major awards, including an Academy Award for Best Song.

Hansard has remarked about his musical influences: "In my house, when I was a kid, there was the holy trinity, which was Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, and Bob Dylan with Bob sitting centre." Hansard and The Frames toured as the support act for Bob Dylan in Australia and New Zealand in August 2007 and Hansard often performs Van Morrison's songs in concert. Two such songs include "Into the Mystic", and "And the Healing Has Begun" which were included on the collector's edition of the soundtrack for the film Once.

Audit in Progress is the third studio album by the San Diego, California rock band Hot Snakes, released in 2004 by Swami Records. It was recorded in a similar manner to the band's previous two albums, with guitarist John Reis taking time off from his main band Rocket From the Crypt. As a visual artist and illustrator singer/guitarist Rick Froberg provided the album's artwork, while Reis released the album through his Swami Records label. It was the first Hot Snakes release to feature drummer Mario Rubalcaba, brought in to fill the position left vacant by original drummer Jason Kourkounis.

In comparison to the band's previous albums, Audit in Progress is more aggressive and primal. It was well received by critics and fans and was named "best punk album" at the 2005 San Diego Music Awards. At this time the band was able to tour much more extensively than they had in support of previous albums, travelling the United States, Europe and Australia. An independent music video was filmed for the song "Braintrust" and a single for the song was planned for release in the UK market (which also would have included the unreleased song "DNR"), but when "Braintrust" was included on the band's Peel Sessions EP the following year the proposed single was cancelled.

Audit in Progress would be Hot Snakes' final studio album, as the members decided to disband following a tour of Australia in Spring 2005 (though Thunder Down Under, a live-in-the-studio album recorded during this tour, would be released posthumously in 2006).

Xylouris White is a musical collaboration established in 2013, involving Greek singer and laouto player George Xylouris and Australian drummer Jim White, best known for his work with Dirty Three. The duo's music has been described as combining "free-jazz, avant-rock and ages-old Greek folk traditions." To date they have released three albums, and undertaken a world tour.

The two musicians first met in Melbourne in 1990, when Xylouris was touring with his father, Antonis Xylouris, and became friends. White first played with Xylouris' family band in Australia in 2009. They began recording and performing regularly in public together in New York City in late 2013. They released their first album, Goats, in 2014; it topped the Billboard World Music chart.

They performed together at the Sydney Festival in 2015, in advance of a world tour, and released their second album, Black Peak, on Bella Union, in 2016.

Their third album, Mother, was released early in 2018.

Each of their albums have been produced by Guy Picciotto (Fugazi).

A thoughtful lyricist taking his poetic inspiration, songcraft ideas, and even a few fashion cues from Bob Dylan, Ezra Furman sings in a nasally style similar to the Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano while making unpretentious indie folk/indie pop that's raw, deep, and achingly sentimental. As students of Tufts University, guitarist Jahn Soon, bassist Job Mukkada, and drummer Jordan Kozer formed the Harpoons as Furman's backing band in 2006 and self-recorded Beat, Beat, Beat in their dorm rooms with the help of engineer Dave Kant of Outtake Records. After self-releasing a limited run of the album and making their first tour of the States, producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine) took notice and pulled the band into the studio to record. The result was Banging Down the Doors, a sincere, awkward, and moving debut released by Minty Fresh in August of 2007. Only a year later, despite extensive touring, Furman found time to write another album's worth of material, and the second Ezra Furman & the Harpoons record, Inside the Human Body, was released in October of 2008. Mysterious Power followed in 2011 before Furman released his first solo album, Year of No Returning, in 2013. By 2014, his reputation in the indie world had grown considerably, especially in Britain, leading to his signing with the London-based Bella Union label later that year. His second solo release, the critically acclaimed Perpetual Motion People, was released in June 2015. After extensive touring, Furman decided to wind down his live band the Boyfriends, reshaping them into the Visions. In keeping with the spirit of change, Furman altered his sound for the next record, 2018's Transangelic Exodus, which featured a darker, more dramatic approach with a clutch of songs about synthetically created outlaw angels, those who love them and fear them, and those who refuse the current state of repression in the 2010s political world order and are likely to be persecuted for it.

Formed in 2014 by former drummers Will Taylor and Charlie Martin, the Austin-based duo decided to start writing material after playing guitar for only a short while. Using their drumming knowledge as the basis for guitar work, the duo's laid-back and simplistic approach first appeared on the seven-track EP. The following year, the pair teamed up with fellow Austin band Loafer to release the split single "Stay Warm." The band headed out on tour across the U.S. before recording their debut album. Taster appeared in April 2016 and drew comparisons to the likes of Yo La Tengo, Duster, and Pavement. Catching the ear of Philly-based indie Double Double Whammy, the label remastered and reissued the album a year later. 2017 also saw the duo back out on tour, with support slots for the likes of Pinegrove and Downtown Boys. Hovvdy's sophomore album, Cranberry, was issued in February 2018.

The seeds of alternative trio Loma were sown in 2015 when Shearwater percussionist Thor Harris missed his regular gig to collaborate with Austin duo Cross Record on Wabi-Sabi, their debut album for Ba Da Bing. Knowing that Shearwater frontman Jonathan Meiburg would be interested in what Harris had been up to during his absence, label boss Ben Goldberg sent him a CD of the album. Meiburg, impressed by the young band's music, invited them to tour with Shearwater. During the tour, he became close friends with the duo, consisting of married couple Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski, and they decided to write some songs together. Excited at what they had come up with, the trio recorded an album at Cross Record's isolated home studio in the tiny town of Dripping Springs, Texas. The resulting material was released under the name Loma by Shearwater's label Sub Pop in early 2018. Preceded by the haunting single "Black Willow," the album incorporated elements from both its parent bands while indisputably creating its own sound.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Moaning is a post-punk outfit that combines melody with raucous noise. Made up of Sean Solomon, Andrew MacKelvie, and Pascal Stevenson, the three musicians struck up a friendship after running into one another repeatedly on the Los Angeles gig circuit. The trio formed a number of bands over the 2010s, playing to crowds in venues in and around L.A. With shared influences such as new-wave pioneers New Order and shoegaze act Slowdive; their sound ultimately came to fruition after Solomon sent MacKelvie and Stevenson some early demo ideas of the track "Don’t Go." Experimenting with an expansive sound involving hard percussion, reverb-laden guitar work, and vocal melodies buried within fuzzy walls of sound, the band took on an altogether darker sound than previous projects with lyrics concerning love, loss, and nihilism. After getting more demos together, the group took their material onto the live circuit and shortly thereafter booked their own mini-tours across the West Coast. They also recorded and shot a video for "The Same" -- the track caught the attention of producer Alex Newport (the Melvins, At the Drive-In). Newport offered to help record and engineer any future material and before long the band were in the studio writing and tracking ideas for their first official effort. Moaning's attitude, work ethic, and overall aesthetic caught the attention of Sub Pop, which offered them a record deal in 2017. The label put out their eponymous debut in March 2018.

Camp Cope are an Australian alternative rock trio from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 2015, the group consists of singer and guitarist Georgia "Maq" McDonald (daughter of Hugh McDonald), lead bassist Kelly-Dawn “Kelso” Hellmrich, and drummer Sarah "Thomo" Thompson. Camp Cope are signed with independent Melbourne label Poison City Records - where Thompson also works, and independent Boston label Run For Cover Records distributes their releases in North America and Europe

Their eponymous debut album, released in April 2016, reached the top 40 in the ARIA Albums Chart, and was nominated for a J Award for Australian Album of the Year. They were also nominated in six categories at the inaugural National Live Music Awards and won the 'Heatseeker Award'. Website Faster Louder choose Camp Cope's self-titled debut album as their Album of the Year for 2016. The group also won Best Emerging Act at the 2016 The Age Music Victoria Awards.

Camp Cope has been described as "part Courtney Barnett, part Juliana Hatfield", and "melodic, uplifting and aching".

The band's second studio album, How to Socialise & Make Friends, was released on 2 March 2018 by Poison City Records and Run for Cover Records.

Lucius is a four-piece indie pop band that got its start in Brooklyn, New York. The band relocated to Los Angeles in 2015. The group currently consists of lead vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, drummer and producer Dan Molad, and lead guitarist Peter Lalish. Josh Dion (drums) and Casey Foubert (guitar) have been joining the band for live performances since Andrew Burri left the band in late 2016.

The band released their first compilation album, titled Nudes in March 2018. The collection features acoustic versions of songs from the band's back catalogue, new songs, and a duet with Roger Waters.

Rafiq Bhatia (born 21 August 1987) is an American musician, composer, guitarist, and producer. He is the guitarist and fellow producer of the American experimental rock band Son Lux, having been a touring member prior.

As a solo artist, he has recorded three solo albums Yes it Will (2012), Strata (2012), and Breaking English (2018). Bhatia has also worked with musicians Olga Bell, Sam Dew, Marcus Gilmore, Billy Hart, Heems, Helado Negro, Vijay Iyer, Glenn Kotche, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Moses Sumney, and David Virelles.

Hot Snakes are an American post-hardcore[1][2] band led by Rick Froberg and John Reis, formed in 1999 in San Diego, California. Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu, after which Reis had found international success with Rocket from the Crypt. Hot Snakes disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2011.

Although they share musical similarities with members' previous outfits, Hot Snakes have a sound that is much more primal than that of Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu or even Rocket from the Crypt. Reis and Froberg were also heavily influenced by bands such as The Wipers, Suicide, and Michael Yonkers Band, and these influences gave Hot Snakes a distinctive sound that has been described by one critic as "hardcore garage punk." The band's recordings and merchandise were conducted in a "Do it Yourself" manner, with Froberg providing all of the artwork and Reis releasing the material via his Swami Records label.

Jericho Sirens is the fourth studio album by American post-hardcore band Hot Snakes. It was released in March 2018 under Sub Pop.
