Marissa Nadler (born April 5, 1981) is an American musician and fine artist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Active since 2000, she is currently signed to Sacred Bones Records and Bella Union, and released her eighth full-length studio album, For My Crimes, in September 2018. As a singer-songwriter, her music defies simple classification. Her work "is rooted in old-school country and folk but brings in elements of experimental and black metal". Sometimes the term "dream folk" has been invoked to describe her work.

Singing in a mezzo-soprano, Nadler has received acclaim for her vocals. Her voice was described by Pitchfork as one "you would follow straight into Hades", and also "textured and angelic, with just a hint of pain captured within her iridescent falsetto". The Boston Globe said, "She has a voice that, in mythological times, could have lured men to their deaths at sea, an intoxicating soprano drenched in gauzy reverb that hits bell-clear heights, lingers, and tapers off like rings of smoke".

On February 21, 2019, Nadler released a collaborative track with John Cale called "Poison". On the same day she shared another song called "If We Make It Through The Summer". Her collaborative album with Stephen Brodsky, Droneflower was released on April 26, 2019. The album received positive reviews, earning a 8/10 score from Soundblab, 8/10 from Popmatters, 7/10 from Atwood Magazine, 7/10 from Earbuddy, 3.5/5 from The Thin Air and a 4.5/5 from Cryptic Rock. The music website Everythingisnoise remarked, "this mind meld between Nadler and Brodsky is unexpectedly brilliant." and SLUG Magazine called the collaboration a "cosmic collision" in a favorable review. Three shows are scheduled in June 2019 to support this record, following a European tour in April.

New York rapper Jay Critch began writing rhymes when he was in grade school and he was making music full-time by the end of his teenage years. High-profile collaborations with better-known rappers Rich the Kid and PnB Rock brought him more attention, and his charismatic, decidedly East Coast style helped his steady stream of solo singles rise in popularity. Critch's music existed mostly in the form of singles and remixes for the first few years of his career, until his debut studio album Hood Favorite was released in late 2018.

Memphis-based rap group Fast Cash Boyz started making their trappy, hook-heavy songs when all four members were just teenagers. They worked independently, releasing mixtapes like 2016's C.R.E.A.M. before striking gold with viral hit "Cash Walk" in 2018.

Fast Cash Boyz were formed in the mid-2010s by friends C-Money, TP Stackz, Money, and C Jizzle. Fixated on money, power, and success, the crew's first material arrived in the form of 2015 self-released mixtape Trappin' Out the Booth. They worked on new music constantly, following with a steady flow of mixtapes, singles, and videos over the next several years. Highlights included 2016's C.R.E.A.M. and the early 2018 mixtape Trappin' Out the Booth II, which featured a cameo from Ace Boogie on one song. It was Fast Cash Boyz Too Bangin', 2018's collaborative project with producer Too Bangin' that brought the group to a larger audience. Catchy singles "Cash Walk" and "Fuck Wit" and their dance-oriented videos were streamed hundreds of thousands of times, and brought FCB their first viral hits.

Breaking through with a viral hit when he was just 17, YBN Nahmir went from being an online gamer to a rap star virtually overnight. Along with friends YBN Cordae and YBN Almighty Jay, YBN Nahmir made up the core membership of the sprawling YBN collective, with all three of the main players rising to enormous success around the same time in 2017. Singles and videos streamed in the millions and hit the Billboard charts, as did 2018's YBN: The Mixtape, an album-length release that collected the brightest output of the collective's early days.
Born and raised in Birmingham Alabama, YBN Nahmir was Nick Simmons before he founded the YBN crew in 2014. Simmons' own music and the YBN collective both grew out of a community of teenaged online gamers, and Simmons' fan base initially formed around his presence as a gamer that sometimes included him freestyling during games of Grand Theft Auto. Eventually, he developed his exuberant and combative style -- one inspired by major Bay Area figures such as E-40 and Mozzy -- and started uploading tracks to social media platforms. Things broke wide open for Nahmir with his 2017 single "Rubbin Off the Paint." In less than a month the song's video had been viewed over 20 million times and by the end of the year it had hit the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 46. Vince Staples took note of the song and issued his own remix version, furthering Nahmir's already viral visibility. New singles followed quickly, tracks like "I Got a Stick," "No Hook," and "Bail Out" all doing numbers but the brief and confrontational "Bounce Out with That" was the strongest follow-up to his initial hit, reaching the Billboard charts and being streamed hundreds of millions of times. In April of 2018, he inked a deal with Atlantic Records and in the fall of that year released YBN: The Mixtape with the other members of the collective. The release proved as successful as their respective singles and included guest spots from Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown, Cuban Doll, and other established stars.

A swaggering, coolly confidant vocalist, Toni Romiti's hypnotic, downtempo-influenced R&B belies her bold stage persona and outspoken attitude. Emerging initially as a star on social media during her early college days, Romiti walked away from a promising basketball career after her single "Nothing on Me" blew up online. The daughter of an Italian-American musician father and African-American mother, Romiti was born Antoinette Nicole Romiti-Coleman in 1995 and grew up in Chicago. From a young age she knew she wanted to sing, listening to a broad array of music from Michael Jackson and the Beatles to Britney Spears and Chris Brown. She also imbibed the pop and EDM albums favored by her older siblings. By her teens she was posting cover songs online, and eventually began writing and uploading her own material.

At the same, however, she was a talented athlete and left high school with a basketball scholarship to the University of South Carolina Upstate. While there, she continued to pursue her music, and kept up a robust social media presence on Vine. In 2014, her song "Nothing on Me" went viral. The success prompted Romiti to make the choice to leave school, forgoing her basketball career, and return to Chicago to focus on her music. Two independent EPs followed, the latter of which launched the viral hit "Imma Dog Too." The song even caught the attention of celebrities like Kylie Jenner, who promoted the track online and helped solidify Romiti as a hot property. Buoyed by her growing fan base, she signed with RCA, and in 2018 she delivered her debut major-label EP, Tomboy, featuring the singles "Never Thought" and "Options."

Quinn Christopherson - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk (Contest Winner 2019)" [Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert]

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk (Contest Winner 2019)" music video by Quinn Christopherson

Genre : Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert
Description : Quinn Christopherson: NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest Winner 2019

Watch the 2019 Tiny Desk Contest Winner play at the Tiny Desk.

June 3, 2019 | Bob Boilen -- A moment after our 2019 Tiny Desk Contest winner, Quinn Christopherson, finished his first song at the NPR offices, he made a confession. He looked at me, while tuning his "vintage white" Fender Telecaster, and said, "I don't know if you know this, but when you called me and you told me, 'You won!' I got off the phone and I thought, 'Dang, I should buy a guitar.' Legit, did not have one. But that's Anchorage; that's the music community there. Everyone just borrowed me their stuff long term."

Quinn and his musical partner, guitarist and singer Nick Carpenter, arrived from the cool of Anchorage to the swelter of D.C. They both donned shorts at the desk; Quinn's were newly cut off to conform to the weather.

What was most striking about their performance was their unfettered confidence. Watching them play together and hearing their songs, with their interweaving guitar lines and vocal harmonies, feels like seeing two brothers performing old favorites. The concert was fun and, at moments, reverent.

After opening with his brand-new tune, "You Told Me," Quinn sang "Glenn," a moving song about his father and their beautiful two-peas-in-a pod relationship. There's a line in that song that goes to the heart of Quinn's songwriting talents: "My dad, he plays guitar, says he knows more than he can do. He tells me that I do more than I know." Quinn writes story-songs about what he knows best, his mom and sister, about their addictions and his love for them. But on his contest-winning song, the one that closes this Tiny Desk performance, he took a close look at himself. "Erase Me" is about his recent transition, what it now means to be a man and how he sees the way the world treats him differently after so many years of being "used to pulling the short stick" as a woman. It's a revealing look at the roles of men and women in our culture at a pivotal time from a songwriter who, I believe, will be a defining voice in the future of music.

Bluesy English singer/songwriter James Bay crafts moving and evocative folk-pop delivered with a warm, raspy voice. Riding the success of platinum single "Hold Back the River," his 2015 debut Chaos and the Calm was a breakthrough, soaring to number one in the U.K. and landing in the Top 10 across Europe and Australasia. Incorporating fresh flair, he issued sophomore effort Electric Light in 2018.
Hailing from the North Hertfordshire market town of Hitchin, Bay honed his skills regionally, eventually landing high-exposure support slots with Tom Odell, John Newman, and Kodaline before inking a record deal with Republic/Universal in 2012. Bay soon began recording material, and charted the single "When We Were on Fire" in 2013. One year later, he landed a pair of songs in the British Top Ten; first, "Let It Go" peaked at number ten, and by the end of 2014, "Hold Back the River" hit number two (and charted in ten other countries). Bay's first full-length, Chaos and the Calm, appeared in March 2015, in time for him to play a handful of American dates, including showcases at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas. The album hit number one in Great Britain and Ireland, and debuted within the Top 20 in the U.S. During 2016, Bay earned a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist, as well as Grammy nominations for Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song for "Hold Back the River."

He returned in 2018 with the emotive single "Wild Love," which landed on his sophomore effort, Electric Light. Showcasing an evolved sound that incorporated polished production and experimental flourish, the album peaked at number two on the U.K. chart.

One of Germany's longest-serving DJs and producers, Phil Fuldner is a Kosmonaut. In other words, he belongs to that elite group of performers -- such as Tom Novy, Eniac, and DJ Moguai -- who've signed on with Germany's ultra hip Kosmo Records label. Fuldner first hit the big time in 1997 thanks to the single "The Final" -- a remake of the old "Captain Future Hymn." A massive success on dance charts all over Europe, the release was a tandem effort with DJ Moguai, with whom Fuldner has had a long association dating back to the pre-Kosmo times. In 1998, he had a go at covering the retro-classic "S-Express" -- the theme to the S-Express TV show -- and the result was yet another dance chart topper in Germany. During the next couple of years, Fuldner was busy in the studio producing and remixing a host of popular compilation albums, working with such big names as Timo Maas, Judge Jules, and Yves Deruyter.
