Please welcome Joyero, the new songwriting project of Andy Stack, to Merge Records! In addition to his role as one half of Wye Oak, Stack has gained notoriety in recent years as a multi-instrumental collaborator with Lambchop, EL VY, Helado Negro, Madeline Kenney, and Thor Harris, among others.

https://ift.tt/2xgHU40

Andy Stack has rightfully earned a reputation as a generous collaborator and musical polymath, both as half of the beloved duo Wye Oak, and on the road and in the studio with Lambchop, Helado Negro, and EL VY. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, he has an uncanny ability to construct the precise musical architecture to frame and support unique and compelling voices. With Release the Dogs, his debut solo record as Joyero, Andy puts his own voice front and center.

Today he shares a music video for new song “Dogs” off Release the Dogs, out August 23. Watch it now, and pre-order the album on CD, LP, and burnt orange & black swirl Peak Vinyl in the Merge store, or wherever records are sold.

Marc E. Bassy is the contemporary R&B and rap alias of San Francisco-born artist Marc Griffin. The singer and songwriter was previously a member of 2AM Club, a band that released an album in 2010 on the RCA label and split a few years later. Compromised creatively by his time in the band, Griffin approached the next phase of his career in an informal, less measured fashioned. He adopted Marc E. Bassy as his performing name -- Count Bassy was a moniker of Alex Rau, an associate -- and uploaded tracks to his SoundCloud page. In 2014, he released the single "Relapse" (featuring Iamsu!) and the mixtape Only the Poets through EO Entertainment. Signed to Universal Music Group division Republic, he issued an EP, East Hollywood, in 2015. The nine-track release featured appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, G-Eazy, Bobby Brackins, and P-Lo. In 2016, Bassy delivered his sophomore EP, Groovy People, which included the single "You & Me," featuring G-Eazy. The following year, he returned with "Plot Twist," a single featuring rapper Kyle, and in 2017 he issued his full-length debut, Gossip Columns.

Brooklyn's Florist formed around the vulnerable songwriting of singer and multi-instrumentalist Emily Sprague. A frequent collaborator of New York-based indie projects including Bellows and Told Slant, Sprague recorded her first Florist EP, 2013's We Have Been This Way Forever, with guitarist Jonnie Baker and bass player Rick Spataro. Debuting a warm, tranquil lo-fi that balances spare intimacy and more textured reflection, it was followed by a split cassette with Eskimeaux, 6 Days of Songs, in 2014. Florist then signed with Double Double Whammy, which released the EP Holdly in 2015.

The Birds Outside Sang After adding drummer Felix Walworth of Told Slant to the official lineup, the quartet released their full-length debut, The Birds Outside Sang, in 2016. It landed on a handful of indie music magazine year-end lists as well as among The New York Times music editors' picks for best of the year. Florist followed it in 2017 with If Blue Could Be Happiness, also on Double Double Whammy.

Description : The Jacksons - Shake Your Body Down to the Ground - TROS TOP50 Rockplanet • TopPop

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Michael Jacksons death today, we publish this early Jacksons tv appearance from 1979.

The Jackson 5, later known as the Jacksons, were an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. The group was founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana by brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, with younger brothers Marlon and Michael Jackson joining soon after.

"Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" is a song of their 1978 album Destiny, and released as a single in 1979. It peaked at No. 7 in the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1979.

The chorus "let's dance/let's shout (shout)/shake your body down to the ground" was inspired by an ad-lib from Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up": "Let's dance/let's shout (shout)/gettin' funky's what it's all about"

On 31 March 1979 it reached #3 in the Dutch Top 40.
This recording was made by Dutch TROS TV program TROS Top 50 Rock Planet on 17 March 1979.

Broadcast date: 17 March 1979

Some singer-songwriters have the power to rock out convincingly, others are pros at waxing introspective. James Bay has a knack for both. For the last few years the UK phenom behind "Let It Go" has showed his fans each side of the coin. His sensitive side is always up front, but when he opened last year's 'Electric Light' with "Wasted On Each Other" and "Pink Lemonade,"a he sounded right at home powering through those crunchy guitar chords. Bay's also a prolific dude; new tunes are always popping up. The new 'Oh My Messy Mind' EP collects four of 'em, and to give it some extra dap, we had JB into our studios to capture stripped-down versions of "Bad" and "Break My Heart Right." They're gentle, poignant and gorgeous.

"Pompeii" is a song by British band Bastille. It is the fourth single from their debut studio album Bad Blood and was released on 11 January 2013. The song's title and lyrics refer to the Roman town of the same name that was destroyed and buried in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

"Pompeii" became the band's breakthrough hit, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart and became the eleventh best selling song that year and, until June 2014, was the country's most streamed single of all time. It was also successful worldwide, reaching the top ten in fifteen countries worldwide, including the United States where it peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their most successful single to date, until "Happier" reached number two on both the UK and US charts in October 2018 and February 2019 respectively.

The song was nominated for British Single of the Year at the 2014 BRIT Awards. A mashup of the song with Rudimental and Ella Eyre's "Waiting All Night" was performed live by Rudimental, Eyre and Bastille at the aforementioned ceremony, which reached number 21 in the UK.

Chicago native Lil Zay Osama delivers hard-hitting raps about his harsh, violent upbringing, tempered with Auto-Tune-heavy singing as heard on tracks like the 2019 single "Changed Up."

Born in the South Side of Chicago in 2000, Zay's early years were turbulent and filled with legal troubles. After serving a three-year jail sentence, Zay decided to take music-making more seriously, having already started to rap before serving his term. Singles such as "Way Better" and "We Ride" appeared in 2018, and by the end of the year, Meek Mill had namechecked Zay as an artist to watch. "Changed Up" was released late in the year, and it became his breakthrough hit, racking up over 16 million views in the following months. Zay was signed by Warner Bros., which picked up "Changed Up" in March of 2019 and issued follow-up "Trencherous" a month later.

Idles - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Idles
Added: 26-06-2019
Genre : Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert
Description : Idles: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

June 18, 2019 | Bob Boilen -- My first time seeing Idles ended with guitarist Mark "Bobo" Bowen frenetically dancing on a bar, his guitar still keeping time, until the swinging neck suddenly shattered some low-hanging, glass lighting fixtures. The band's set at South by Southwest was fierce and I knew it'd be a challenge trying to figure out how to bring that cathartic rage behind my desk. There was talk for a while of some members of the band strapping on pocket-sized guitar amps and beating on a single drum. But a week before this bunch of British madmen arrived at NPR, the instrument list had grown and what ensued was just about the loudest, most fun and most raucous Tiny Desk Concert in memory.

What lead singer Joe Talbot and his mates bring to their shows is a mix of love and outrage. Their songs are often bursts of fury, but the message is insightful and not intended to incite. Joe Talbot says their opening Tiny Desk song, "Never Fight A Man With A Perm," from their album Joy as an Act of Resistance, is an "exploration of the horrid corners of my past."

It only took a few seconds for Joe's face to turn blood-red; as he growled, it stayed that way for the next 13-minutes, even as he curtseyed at the end of the first song and bounced his way into the second. "Bobo" meanwhile moved from standing and pounding the bass drum to thrashing a guitar. I think a water bottle and some miscellaneous objects got knocked from the shelves while guitarist Lee Kiernan played. But watching his hyperactive movements in this confined space, it's actually hard to believe that so few things broke. "We are not the Jonas Brothers," Joe Talbot explained before their final tune. "People get confused." He said this with his charming smile and began to run in place while singing "I'm Scum," just to make it clear who they are.

A self-proclaimed "angry band" from Bristol in Southwest England, Idles take the fury of punk rock and wed it to a muscular but moody instrumental attack that matches the literate, purposeful menace of their lyrics. The band existed in relative obscurity for several years while they were finding their sound but that all changed upon the release of their debut album, Brutalism, which catapulted them into the public eye. Idles were formed in 2010 by vocalist Joe Talbot, lead guitarist Mark Bowen, rhythm guitarist Andy S, bassist Adam Devonshire, and drummer Jon Beavis. Eager to take their music to an audience, Idles established a club night in Bristol they called Batcave, and through live work they developed a passionate local following. After distributing a home-made demo among fans, Idles released their four-track debut EP, Welcome, in August 2012. The EP quickly earned positive press, but with Idles self-financing their own recordings, it wasn't until October 2015 that they released their follow-up, Meat, another four-track EP. A month later, Meat was followed by Meta, which featured remixes of the tracks from Meat by David Pajo, Peter Robertson, Sly One, and Thom Alt J. By the time Meat had been released, Andy S had left Idles, and Lee Kiernan had taken over on guitar. As the U.K. music press became increasingly enthusiastic about Idles, the band released a single in August 2016, "Divide & Conquer," a bitter critique of the budget cuts that had crippled the U.K.'s National Health Service. Idles also announced that "Divide & Conquer" was the first track from their upcoming full-length debut album, Brutalism, which arrived in early 2017 on Balley Records and received widespread acclaim. Many noted that the refreshing, ferocious heaviness of the album, with its brilliantly satirical lyrics, was a welcome sound in the arguably imitable alternative scene. Using the momentum gained from the release of their debut, the group toured extensively and continued to write new material throughout 2017; they re-entered the studio in January 2018 to begin recording their follow-up. The second album arrived after slight delays; Talbot experienced more personal tragedy and conversely gave up drinking. In reaction to those events, the themes of 2018's Joy as an Act of Resistance shifted focus to communities and supportive ideals, although it still found time to take shots at the failings of U.K. society. Idles returned in May 2019 with the single "Mercedes Marxist."
