Young Guv (or sometimes Young Governor) is the musical alias of Toronto-based musician Ben Cook, known for his work with Canadian hardcore groups No Warning and Fucked Up. Active in the hardcore scenes since the late '90s, the prolific Cook stretched out into a number of indie styles throughout the 2000s, initially launching the Young Governor moniker around 2010 with several collaborative singles and EPs for various small labels, including his own Bad Actors imprint. The Young Governor material was generally more aligned with melodic indie pop and hooky power pop than with punk. A 2012 release under the name Young Guv & the Scuzz further developed both the sound and name, which had changed simply to Young Guv by the time of his 2015 debut LP Ripe 4 Luv.

"Homesick" is a song by American country music singer Kane Brown. It was released as the third single to his second major-label album Experiment on August 5, 2019. Brown wrote the song with Brock Berryhill, Martthew McGinn, and Taylor Phillips, and it was produced by Dann Huff.

Kane Allen Brown (born October 21, 1993) is an American country singer and songwriter who first came to the attention of the public through social media. He released his first EP, titled Closer, in June 2015 and followed it with a new single, "Used to Love You Sober", in October 2015. After Brown signed with RCA Nashville in early 2016, the song was included on his EP Chapter 1, released in March 2016. He released his first full-length album, the self-titled Kane Brown, on December 2, 2016. The single "What Ifs" came from this album, and in October 2017, Brown became the first artist to have simultaneous number ones on all five main Billboard country charts. Brown released his second album, Experiment, in November 2018, which became his first number one album on the Billboard 200.

Growing up in the suburbs of Ontario, CA sisters Harmonie and Heaven Martinez have been playing music before they could walk and songwriting since middle school. It was when the two brought a few friends into the equation that they formed what is now a rock band they call Ariel View. With Harmonie Martinez (vocals/lead guitar), Heaven Martinez (vocals/bass), Miranda Viramontes (rhythm guitar), and Nadine Parra (drums), Ariel View have played countless DIY and club shows across Southern California. Influenced by garage, surf, psych rock, emo, and pop punk, Ariel View make music you can dance to, party to, sing along to, or maybe even cry to if that strikes the mood.

The Silver Scream is the fifth album by the American heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills, released on October 5, 2018 by Fearless Records. Much like their previous album where all tracks were inspired by different novels, all the tracks are inspired by horror films. Some examples of the source material are; A Nightmare on Elm Street ("The American Nightmare"), Friday the 13th ("Thank God It's Friday"), and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ("Savages"). The album features guest appearances by the band's former singer Jeremy Schwartz, Tony Lovato of Mest, actress Chelsea Talmadge, Randy Strohmeyer of Finch, Buddy Schaub and "JR" Wasilewski of Less Than Jake, Will Salazar of Fenix TX, and Stanley Kubrick's grandson Sam Kubrick of the UK band Shields. The album marked their highest chart positions in the US, debuting at number 27 on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Hard Rock Albums chart. It is the last album to feature bassist Justin Morrow before his departure to join Motionless in White as their full-time bassist in 2019.

Four music videos have been released in which lead singer Spencer Charnas visits a psychologist after experiencing dreams based on the songs ("The American Nightmare", "Thank God It's Friday", "A Grave Mistake", "Stabbing in the Dark"). A fifth video was also released, though this one takes place in Christmas of 1993, when Charnas was a child and celebrating Christmas Day with his parents ("Merry Axe-mas"). The video for "IT Is the End" was released on September 24, 2019.

A deluxe version of the album was announced on the 27th/28th of August on the band's social media accounts. It is set to be released on the 25th of October, 2019. It will feature a cover of Michael Jackson's Thriller and a brand new song inspired by the 1996 horror movie Scream.

Coming up somewhere between Wiz Khalifa's loose flow and hedonistic lyrics and Lil B's free spirit and love of alternative-flavored beats, Atlanta's Trinidad James went from viral to Def Jam signee, and all in his rookie season. Born Nicholas Williams in Trinidad & Tobago but raised in Atlanta, he was a 24-year-old manager of a downtown streetwear boutique when he decided to try his hand at rapping and become Trinidad James. That was late 2011, and in October of 2012, Trinidad dropped his debut mixtape, Don't Be S.A.F.E., which featured the viral hit "All Gold Everything." In December of that year, as the "All Gold Everything" video passed the three-million-views mark, Def Jam announced their signing of the rapper and released the "All Gold Everything" remix with verses from T.I., Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz added to the track. The label gave the Don't Be S.A.F.E. mixtape an official release in early 2013. A second mixtape was released later that year. 10 PC Mild featured spots by Travi$ Scott, D4L, Danny Brown, Rich Homie Quan, Gucci Mane, and Childish Gambino.

James continued to drop mixtapes with the Gold Gang label, occupying 2015 with a trio of releases: The Wake Up, No One Is Safe, and Trips to Trinidad. He also appeared on a remix of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Cash Cash's "The Gun" with Dev and Chrish. In 2016, James returned focus to his own output, dropping the single "Just a Lil' Thick (She Juicy)" with Mystikal and Lil Dicky.

Yungblud is the hip-hop-influenced rock outfit created by musician Dominic Harrison. Born in Yorkshire, England, the singer/songwriter was raised in a musical family. His father was a vintage guitar dealer and his grandfather played with T. Rex. Influenced by Bob Dylan, the Clash, and the Beatles, he played guitar and sang from a young age. In 2017, when he was 19, he issued his debut single, "King Charles," a genre-blending protest song that fell somewhere between early Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T, and Rat Boy. He followed with the song "I Love You, Will You Marry Me," which incorporated some dub and grime elements. A major-label deal with Geffen yielded Yungblud's first collection, an eponymous 2018 EP that included his first two singles alongside three new tracks. His debut full-length, 21st Century Liability, appeared in May of that year and made a solid chart showing in Australia and Belgium. Yungblud returned in the early part of 2019 with "Loner" and "11 Minutes," the latter of which was a collaboration with Halsey and Travis Barker.

Based in Seattle, the Berries are a jangling indie pop project with low-key country-rock aspirations, led by singer/songwriter Matt Berry. Over back-to-back full-lengths in 2018 and 2019, Berry and his crew honed a sound based on earthy harmonies, wistful melodicism, and classic guitar tones.

Best known for his work in West Coast underground bands like Happy Diving and Big Bite, Berry began shifting toward a less aggressive sound, recording demos inspired by the more country-driven elements of Neil Young and Gram Parsons as well as '90s Brit-pop and power pop. He casually issued a couple of cassette demos in 2017 under the Berries name before making it official in 2018 with the full-length Start All Over Again. A sophomore set called Berryland appeared a year later via Run for Cover Records.

-

A swaggering, coolly confidant vocalist, Toni Romiti's hypnotic, downtempo-influenced R&B belies her bold stage persona and outspoken attitude. Emerging initially as a star on social media during her early college days, Romiti walked away from a promising basketball career after her single "Nothing on Me" blew up online. The daughter of an Italian-American musician father and African-American mother, Romiti was born Antoinette Nicole Romiti-Coleman in 1995 and grew up in Chicago. From a young age she knew she wanted to sing, listening to a broad array of music from Michael Jackson and the Beatles to Britney Spears and Chris Brown. She also imbibed the pop and EDM albums favored by her older siblings. By her teens she was posting cover songs online, and eventually began writing and uploading her own material.

At the same, however, she was a talented athlete and left high school with a basketball scholarship to the University of South Carolina Upstate. While there, she continued to pursue her music, and kept up a robust social media presence on Vine. In 2014, her song "Nothing on Me" went viral. The success prompted Romiti to make the choice to leave school, forgoing her basketball career, and return to Chicago to focus on her music. Two independent EPs followed, the latter of which launched the viral hit "Imma Dog Too." The song even caught the attention of celebrities like Kylie Jenner, who promoted the track online and helped solidify Romiti as a hot property. Buoyed by her growing fan base, she signed with RCA, and in 2018 she delivered her debut major-label EP, Tomboy, featuring the singles "Never Thought" and "Options."

Glaswegian noise pop duo Honeyblood consists of Stina Marie Claire Tweeddale on guitar and vocals and Cat Myers on drums. Taking inspiration from dark and cloudy '90s indie rock luminaries like PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, and Throwing Muses, Tweeddale formed the band in early 2012 with original drummer Shona McVicar. Their gorgeously murky home-recorded two-song demo cassette quickly caught the attention of FatCat Records, which signed Honeyblood in 2013 and issued their first single, Bud, later that year. The duo's self-titled album, which was produced by Peter Katis, arrived in July 2014 and delivered a more polished version of Tweeddale and McVicar's crunch-pop. Shortly after Honeyblood's release, McVicar left and was replaced by Cat Myers. After touring with the likes of the Foo Fighters and Wolf Alice in 2015, Honeyblood returned to the studio with producer James Dring, who also worked with Jamie T and Gorillaz. The band's fiery second album, Babes Never Die, arrived in late 2016.

With a sound that merges the plaintiveness of post-hardcore with the punishing heaviness of metalcore, Bury Tomorrow attack listeners from all fronts with their emotionally charged metal assault. Offsetting layers of pleasant, atmospheric melody with sudden bursts of chugging heaviness, the band uses its breakdowns to create a brooding, moody effect, as if the songs are lurching into a fit when provoked from their somber ruminations. Emerging in 2007, the band topped the charts in their U.K. homeland with the release of their third effort, 2014's Runes, which also did well overseas. Subsequent efforts did little to temper the fire, delivering huge blasts of melodic metalcore with extreme prejudice.

"Jungleland" is the closing song on Bruce Springsteen's 1975 album Born to Run. It contains one of E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons' most recognizable solos. It also features short-time E Streeter Suki Lahav, who performs the delicate 23-note violin introduction to the song, accompanied by Roy Bittan on piano in the opening.

The song in its lyrics mirrors the pattern of the entire Born to Run album, beginning with a sense of desperate hope that slides slowly into despair and defeat. The song opens with the "Rat" "driving his sleek machine/over the Jersey state line" and meeting up with the "Barefoot Girl," with whom he "takes a stab at romance and disappears down Flamingo Lane." The song then begins to portray some of the scenes of the city and gang life in which the "Rat" is involved, with occasional references to the gang's conflict with the police. The last two stanzas, coming after Clemons' extended solo, describe the final fall of the "Rat" and the death of both his dreams, which "gun him down" in the "tunnels uptown," and the love between him and the "Barefoot Girl." The song ends with a description of the apathy towards the semi-tragic fall of the "Rat" and the lack of impact his death had: "No one watches as the ambulance pulls away/Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light," "Man, the poets down here don't write nothin' at all/They just stand back and let it all be."

Shéhérazade is the title of two works by the French composer Maurice Ravel. Both have their origins in the composer's fascination with Scheherazade, the heroine and narrator of The Arabian Nights. The first work, an overture (1898), Ravel's earliest surviving orchestral piece, was not well received at its premiere and has not subsequently been among his most popular works. Four years later he had a much greater success with a song cycle with the same title, which has remained a standard repertoire piece and has been recorded many times.

Both settings are influenced by Russian composers, particularly Rimsky-Korsakov, who had written a Scheherazade in 1888. The first composition was heavily influenced by Russian music, the second used a text inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic poem. The musical relation between the overture and the song cycle is tenuous.

Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (L. 86), known in English as Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is a symphonic poem for orchestra by Claude Debussy, approximately 10 minutes in duration. It was composed in the year 1894, the same year that the piece was first performed. It was first performed in Paris on 22 December 1894, conducted by Gustave Doret. The flute solo was played by Georges Barrère.

Debussy's work later provided the basis for the ballet Afternoon of a Faun choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky and a later version by Jerome Robbins.

The Norwegian punk-pop band formed in 2012 in Stavanger after the members met each other on the city's local music scene. Vocalist Haley Shea and guitarist Tor-Arne Vikingstad met first and began writing songs together before being joined by bassist Lasse Lokøy and drummer Halvard Skeie Wiencke. The four-piece settled on the name Slutface as they wanted something that was provocative and set them apart from other bands on the local scene. They released their debut self-titled EP in 2013, but it was the follow-up, 2014's We're Just OK, that gained acclaim in their native country. These early EPs defined the group's identity, which was inspired by riot grrrl bands like Bikini Kill but also had a strong pop sensibility. Much like the riot grrrl scene of the early '90s, feminist issues were a central theme of the band's songs and were a strong presence on both of their 2016 EPs, Sponge State and Empire Records. The former was the first release to gain recognition outside their native country. After they struggled with censorship on social media sites, the band changed their name to Sløtface (pronounced the same way as their original name). In 2017, Sløtface released their debut long-player, Try Not to Freak Out.

Based out of Long Island, New York, Stray from the Path create chaotic, unpredictable hardcore/metalcore with brutally honest lyrics criticizing law enforcement and the general injustices of society. They were formed in 2001 by Thomas Williams, John Kane, Justin Manas, Ed Edge, and Frank Correira. Following a 2002 self-released demo (People Over Profit), the original lineup released a debut full-length, Audio Prozac, on Pride Recordz in 2003. Our Oceania (released by Five Point Records) followed in 2005, after which singer Edge left the band and was replaced by Andrew Dijorio, otherwise known as Drew York. Amidst endless touring across the United States, Stray from the Path released How to Make a Ucalegon, a split album with Lilu Dallas, on Five Point Records in 2007. The band signed to Sumerian Records, which released Villains (produced by Kurt Ballou of Converge) in 2008, after which the lineup changed again, with Ryan Thompson replacing Correira on bass, Manas moving from drums to guitar to replace Kane, and a new drummer, Dan Bourke (ex-This Is Hell), coming aboard.

This lineup recorded Make Your Own History (with producer Misha "Bulb" Mansoor), which was released in 2009. Thompson left the band in 2010 and was replaced by bassist/vocalist Anthony Altamura. Following extensive touring of North America and Europe, the group recorded its fifth full-length album, Rising Sun, with producer Will Putney. Featuring guest appearances by members of Comeback Kid, the Ghost Inside, and Norma Jean, the album was released in 2011. Putney returned to produce the band's sixth album, Anonymous, which included contributions by members of letlive. and Stick to Your Guns. The album was released in 2013 and hit the Top 40 of the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Subliminal Criminals, the group's seventh full-length, followed in 2015. In July 2017, Stray from the Path dropped the controversial single "Goodnight Alt-Right" in anticipation of the release of their eighth studio long-player, Only Death Is Real, which arrived later that September, and marked the studio debut of new drummer Craig Reynolds.

Nilüfer Yanya - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert]

Description : Nilüfer Yanya: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Sept. 18, 2019 | Bob Boilen -- There's a hush to the music of Nilüfer Yanya that made the Tiny Desk the perfect stage for her sound. On a hot summer day, the British singer and her band — made up of Jazzi Bobbi primarily on sax, Lucy Lu on bass, Ellis Dupuy on drums and Nilüfer on guitar and vocals — performed their three-song set with restraint and subtlety. At moments, the music felt like an eruption waiting to happen, though the suave, refined sound left an indelible vibe in the room.

The songs performed at the Tiny Desk all come from one of my top-10 albums of 2019, Miss Universe. It's an album of lovable pop songs awash in reverb but stark in tone, with Nilüfer's thickly accented, laid-back vocals and rich imagery at the forefront. Minus the production of the album, these songs are spare and spacious. The words lead the way as the ringing guitar tones embellish lines such as:

"Do you like pain?
Again, again, again, again
Again, oh, again
Do you like pain?"

I don't know anyone who sings like Nilüfer, but I'm reminded of Astrud Gilberto singing bossa nova. There's a sophisticated sensibility rough enough around the edges that I find captivating.

Nilüfer Yanya is a British composer, singer-songwriter, and guitarist.

The daughter of two visual artists, Yanya grew up in Chelsea, London. Her mother is Barbadian while her father is Turkish. Growing up with her father's Turkish music and her mother's classical music playing at home, she soon gravitated to guitar rock and learned how to play the instrument at age 12. Informally starting her musical career with demos uploaded to SoundCloud in 2014, she turned down an offer to join a girl group produced by Louis Tomlinson of One Direction and focused on developing her own music instead. Her first EP, Small Crimes/Keep on Calling, was released in 2016. Her second EP, Plant Feed, was released in 2017, followed by Do You Like Pain? in 2018.

In 2019, she released her debut album, Miss Universe, which received rave reviews and critical acclaim, with critics noting her ability to bounce back and forth between musical and lyrical styles, shifting between "gimlet-eyed composure and cataclysmic panic". Yanya's music has been described as nervous and restless, combining influences from indie rock to soul, jazz, and trip hop.
