Nigerian singer/songwriter Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (aka Wizkid) began his career in music when he was just 11 years old. His first record, Lil Prinz, was recorded in 2001 in collaboration with Glorious Five, a group consisting of Balogun and his friends from church. In 2006, he started pursuing music full-time, at first collaborating with various Nigerian pop acts including OJB Jezreel, Naeto C, and Banky W. By 2011 he was ready to record his debut studio album as a solo artist; Superstar was released via Empire Mates Entertainment (EME for short) to great critical and public acclaim across Africa, propelling him to stardom in his home country. After multiple delays and label disagreements, Balogun released his sophomore album, Ayo, in 2014. His second studio album featured a multitude of guest appearances, including a spot from Femi Kuti. It also featured Balogun's global breakthrough track "Ojuelegba." Not only did the single cement his status as one of Nigeria's biggest pop acts, it was also picked up and remixed by Drake and Skepta, thrusting Wizkid into the international spotlight. In return, Wizkid appeared on Drake's 2016 smash single "One Dance." In March 2017, it was announced that Wizkid had signed a major deal with RCA and Sony International, which would release his third LP, Sound from the Other Side, later that year. A handful of singles appeared in advance of the album, including "Sweet Love" and the Drake-assisted "Come Closer." October 2018 saw Wizkid issue a pair of singles, "Master Groove" and "Fever," to mark Nigeria's Independence Day.

Arriving at the height of bro country's peak in the mid-2010s, Maddie & Tae skewered that genre's down-home swagger with "Girl in a Country Song," a sharp satire of all the sexist clichés littering the airwaves in 2014. "Girl in a Country Song" became a hit in its own right, reaching number one on Billboard's Country Airplay charts by the end of 2014, making the duo of Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye genuine country stars. Start Here, Maddie & Tae's 2015 debut, kept the pair on the charts, thanks in part to "Fly," a bittersweet ballad which played to the duo's strengths as harmonizers and canny country-pop synthesizers. The two hits made a lasting impression that sustained Maddie & Tae through some label trouble in the ensuing years, a period that ended with the 2019 release of the One Heart to Another EP.

The ebullient, anthemic pop/rock and topical lyrics of the Federal Empire are often bolstered by unison group vocals. Their debut EP, The American Dream, saw release in 2016 and was followed by collaborations with EDM acts including Martin Garrix and Sam Feldt.

Started in Los Angeles by songwriters who met when they were hired to write together for other acts, the Federal Empire's founding members consisted of lead singer Chad Wolf (Carolina Liar), McKay Stevens (the Vibrant Sound), and Keith Varon (Angel's Landing). Early singles including "The American Dream" were picked up by prominent streaming play lists, and the trio released the EP The American Dream in late 2016. Around that time, they were featured on the Martin Garrix single "Hold On & Believe." A remix EP featuring "The American Dream" appeared in mid-2017 with versions by Casualkimono and Lux Pacific. The Federal Empire had another streaming success that year with "Shot by My Own Gun," a collaboration with Sam Feldt that garnered millions of plays.

Varon parted ways with the project, and the remaining duo signed with Sumerian Records in 2018. Their second EP, I Never Liked Your Friends (which also included "The American Dream"), followed in mid-2019.

Petras was born and raised in Cologne, where she had become subject of media coverage after undergoing gender transition at a young age. Petras began recording music as a teenager, releasing her debut extended play One Piece of Tape in 2011. She independently released her debut single in 2017, the Dr. Luke-produced "I Don't Want It at All", which went on to top several viral music charts on Spotify. The song was followed by Billboard-charting singles "Feeling of Falling" (with Cheat Codes), "Heart to Break", and "1, 2, 3 Dayz Up" (featuring Sophie).

Following her early success, Petras released a slew of digital singles which would later comprise her unofficial body of work known as "Era 1". On 1 October 2018, Petras released the Halloween-themed, novelty EP Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1.

Her first studio album Clarity was released on 28 June 2019. The record was preceded with a nine-week-long promotional campaign, during which Petras released one single a week with an accompanying visual video. Clarity managed to reach number seven on the Heatseekers Chart and number 26 on the Independent Albums chart.

She released her first two EPs in 2017 - the first: To Whom It May Concern which features the single Already Home and was described by Huffington post as "a melancholy number about a bus ride and ruminations on the mundanities of life" and includes the line "there's billionaires for president, and parking fines at hospitals".

The second EP - See You Soon featured the single Not Worth Hiding which reached No. 23 on Triple J Hottest 100.

Alex the Astronaut released a couple of standalone singles, Waste Of Time, and Happy Song, both of which have been played on high rotation at Triple J. Rosanne Cash - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Country, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Rosanne Cash
Added: 01-10-2019

Description : Rosanne Cash: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Sept. 23, 2019 | Lauren Onkey -- Rosanne Cash and her band arrived at NPR to play the Tiny Desk on a freezing cold, bright sunny day in January — one of those brittle, crystal clear winter days when the snow reflects the sun and there's nowhere to hide from the light. Her intense performance had that same balance of heat and ice.

The songs that Cash performed at the desk, most taken from her 2018 album She Remembers Everything, have a lot of emotional heat, but they're shaped and sculpted by the wry wisdom of age and experience. More than at any time in her career, her spirit and approach to performance these days reflects the influence of her father, the legendary country singer Johnny Cash.

The audience was so focused on Cash and her band that it felt a little tense in the room until after the first song, the ominous "She Remembers Everything." Cash made a joke about the attentiveness of the "NPR Listening Room" and everyone relaxed. But the performance rewarded intense listening. John Leventhal's evocative guitar swirled around the haunting lyrics.

The band was as focused as the audience, which underscored the themes of memory and loss in the songs. Roseanne Cash has been making great records for forty years, but she's never played or written better music than she's doing right now.

Rosanne Cash (born May 24, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and author. She is the eldest daughter of country musician Johnny Cash and Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, Johnny Cash's first wife.

Although Cash is often classified as a country artist, her music draws on many genres, including folk, pop, rock, blues, and most notably Americana. In the 1980s, she had a string of chart-topping singles, which crossed musical genres and landed on both the country and pop charts, the most commercially successful being her 1981 breakthrough hit "Seven Year Ache", which topped the U.S. country singles charts and reached the Top 30 on the U.S. pop singles charts.

Here's what people say...

“Jack Cooper has struck gold with his latest band, finding the missing link between Fairport Convention and Kraftwerk… A quietly atmospheric, transporting collection.” - The Times – 4 stars ****

“There’s a real ambition to Modern Nature’s debut album. Pastoral prog and horizon–chasing Krautrock push onwards, while organ drone and saxophone add to the exploratory mood.” Q – 4 stars ****

“An open and expansive project, manifested in a sound that lashes woody, folky textures to an insistent motorik pulse.” Uncut – 8/10

“A creative evolution from Cooper’s previous music, with a quiet new clarity and purpose at play.” MOJO – 4 stars ****

“A series of dreamy, filmic jams that unfurl propulsively… A journey that flashes through phasing drones, pastoral post–rock and ecstatic flights of sax.” Long Live Vinyl – 8/10

“An album that takes the listener from a tense urban first half to a more restful rural ending… They are at their best on ‘Footsteps’, a fabulous blend of vocals, motorik drums and sax.” Sunday Times

“On their smart, subdued debut, Jack Cooper and Will Young prize delicacy over punchy pop melodies, offsetting soft vocals with dissonant brass and background buzz.” The Guardian

“Blending pastoral psyche–folk with urban drones, burbling motorik melodies, and some mellow jazz skronk, the resulting late–night mix is laser–targeted for those who have Talk Talk, the Notwist and Yo La Tengo forever playlisted in their hearts… A confident, considered but above all gorgeous debut.”
Record Collector – 4 stars ****

“Taking their cues from the tender falsetto of Nick Drake, the free-form rhythms of Alice Coltrane and the rattling guitars of Radiohead, Modern Nature’s debut is a sprawling journey through an imagined natural landscape.” The Observer

“An endearing debut… Modern Nature feel like a long–lost cousin of Talk Talk or Wooden Shjips, as they combine simple guitars with motorik beats, soft synth pads and saxophone improvisations… Jack Cooper’s understated vocals only add to the album’s blissful allure… A compelling listen.” DIY – 4 stars ****

“Lovely tunes… Krautrock–ishly propulsive with the bucolic qualities of The Beatles’ Mother Nature’s Son and elsewhere recalling the otherworldly pop of Talk Talk.” Mail On Sunday – 4 stars ****

“Combining pulsing motorik beats with textured, pastoral folk, Modern Nature weave their compelling magic… This is a debut to savour.” The Sun – 4 stars ****

“Planted somewhere between Talk Talk and Tuung, the spacious arrangements, hushed vocals and dashes of saxophone and cello make their debut feel like a breath of fresh air.” Electronic Sound

“Jack Cooper and Will Young’s compositions don’t kick out the jams, they hypnotically stir them as a fortune teller would a cup of tea.”
Shindig – 4 stars ****

“Pitched somewhere between Bark Psychosis and Robert Wyatt, How To Live might be the great spellbound songbook out wasting Earth deserves.” Rock’n’Reel – 4 stars ****

“Takes the listener from an urban environment to rural escapism, the ten tracks here weave together pastoral ballads with gently looped guitars, Krautrock and atmospheric electronica.” Loud & Quiet

A meandering blend of bucolic folk, experimental jazz, and psych-tinged indie rock, Modern Nature is a project from U.K. artists Jack Cooper (Ultimate Painting, Mazes) and Will Young (Beak, Moon Gangs), who first appeared in 2019 with an introductory EP, Nature, and the full-length How to Live.

Following the 2018 breakup of Cooper's former band, the acclaimed indie rock outfit Ultimate Painting, he began working with Young on a new venture that took cues from the classic British folk of Bert Jansch and the exploratory jazz of Alice Coltrane, and fused it with elements of the indie rock from which they came. Enlisting cellist Rupert Gillett, drummer Aaron Neveu (Woods), and saxophonist Jeff Tobias (Sunwatchers) to complete their ensemble, the two set about recording their debut release. Signing with Bella Union, Modern Nature issued their four-song debut EP, Nature, in March 2019. It was followed five months later by their first full-length, How to Live.
