Young Guv - "GUV I & II (Album Stream)" [Rock & Alternative, Album Streams]

GUV I & II (Album Stream)

"GUV I & II (Album Stream)" music video by Young Guv
Added: 26-10-2019
Genre : Rock & Alternative, Album Streams
Description : Young Guv from the upcoming album 'GUV II' out October 25th, 2019 via Run For Cover Records

Though Toronto-based guitarist and vocalist Ben Cook got his start playing hardcore and was a vital member of Fucked Up, the music he makes under the Young Guv (or Young Governor) name leans in a decidedly poppier, always surprising direction. After launching his career with a raw garage rock sound, Cook steered the band in a more melodic direction that culminated with the diverse Ripe 4 Luv album in 2015. After an '80s R&B detour on 2 Sad 2 Funk, Cook exhibited his love of pure power pop on 2019's Guv 1 and Guv II, two short albums that delivered hooks and melodies in the tradition of vintage Teenage Fanclub and Velvet Crush.

Cook started his musical career in the Toronto hardcore band No Warning in the early 2000s and when they split in 2005, he began playing guitar with Fucked Up. The first album he appeared on was 2006's groundbreaking Hidden World. As the band became more popular and busy, Cook still found time for other projects, most notably the punky power pop combo he fronted called Marvelous Darlings, who released a series of singles for a variety of labels between 2007 and 2010. He started making solo recordings in 2008 under the name Young Governor, debuting with the Hidden Love EP. His sound was lo-fi and raw, roughly combining punk and garage rock. He began to expand his approach on 2009's "Bedtime Stories" single, adding some vintage organ sounds and more space in the arrangements. He continued releasing singles for a variety of labels like Dirtnap, 12XU, and Tough Love over the next few years, with each release getting poppier than the last. In 2011, Fucked Up went on hiatus and Cook adopted the new name of Young Guv & the Scuzz and teamed with drummer Jesse Labovitz and bassist Ryan Gavel for the power pop-influenced 2012 EP A Love Too Strong. Cook next turned to synth pop, forming the duo Yacht Club with his former bandmate in Marvelous Darlings, Matt Delong. They released singles in 2013 and 2014 before disbanding. By then Cook was back playing with Fucked Up. He had also changed his band's name to just Young Guv and made an album for Slumberland Records. Released in 2015, Ripe 4 Luv touched on cheesy '80s rock, murky chillwave, jangling guitar pop, and smooth soft rock while also being the poppiest thing Cook had done yet. After another single on Slumberland in 2017, Cook changed labels and sounds when he issued the happily weird '80s funk and R&B-inspired 2 Sad 2 Funk for Scotland's Night School label. He didn't stick with that sound for long, though, and on 2019's Guv 1, Cook fully embraced early-'90s corporate power pop à la Sloan and Matthew Sweet. The eight-song record was released by Run for Cover in August of 2019. Guv II followed in October and added soft rock influences to the mix.

The organic, wordy, and literate hip-hop created by Casyo "Krept" Johnson and Karl "Konan" Wilson -- aka South London duo Krept & Konan -- had slipped into the mainstream in a relatively natural and gradual way by 2013. Formed in 2009, the pair eschewed the traditional quest for major-label interest, concentrating instead on spreading the word via social media, and eventually via their own label and clothing line, Play Dirty. It was a 2010 mixtape titled Tsunami that initially turned the heads of a significant number of people, before their cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Otis" racked up millions of YouTube views in less than a week in early 2011. When a gunman burst into Konan's mother's home that summer, injuring her and fatally shooting his stepfather, the duo subsequently dealt with the incident in the autobiographical "My Story." Later that year, the Tottenham-born grime artist Skepta invited them to open for him in Glasgow. Although this was effectively Krept & Konan's first gig, it cemented a relationship between the three, and Skepta continued to promote their music online, as did such luminaries of the U.K. scene as Wretch 32 and Professor Green.

Momentum was built by way of holding off the official release of any further material until the September 2013 mixtape Young Kingz surfaced. The album managed to reach the U.K. Top 20 with an almost nonexistent marketing budget, and featured appearances from artists such as Giggs, Chip, and Tinie Tempah. A year later the group signed with Def Jam, and released The Long Way Home on the label in 2015. The album featured guest spots from Ed Sheeran, Rick Ross, and Wiz Khalifa, and debuted at number two on the U.K. albums chart. The duo returned in 2017 with two simultaneously released mixtapes. 7 Days was the more club oriented of the two, and featured guest spots from Skepta and Stormzy; 7 Nights had more of an R&B flavor and featured appearances from Hudson East and Tony Lanez.

He appeared on their mixtape Sauce Theft Auto: Splash Andreas the following year. His own club hit "Did a Whole Lot" attracted the attention of Wiz Khalifa, who signed Sosamann to his Taylor Gang. Later, Wiz would join Sosamann on "Not the Vine" from Sosamann's full-length Sauce Eskobar. The 2016 effort also featured Young Dolph, Sauce Walka, and Sancho Saucy.

Description : Toni Romiti - Angel (Amanda Perez Cover)

-

A swaggering, coolly confidant vocalist, Toni Romiti's hypnotic, downtempo-influenced R&B belies her bold stage persona and outspoken attitude. Emerging initially as a star on social media during her early college days, Romiti walked away from a promising basketball career after her single "Nothing on Me" blew up online. The daughter of an Italian-American musician father and African-American mother, Romiti was born Antoinette Nicole Romiti-Coleman in 1995 and grew up in Chicago. From a young age she knew she wanted to sing, listening to a broad array of music from Michael Jackson and the Beatles to Britney Spears and Chris Brown. She also imbibed the pop and EDM albums favored by her older siblings. By her teens she was posting cover songs online, and eventually began writing and uploading her own material.

At the same, however, she was a talented athlete and left high school with a basketball scholarship to the University of South Carolina Upstate. While there, she continued to pursue her music, and kept up a robust social media presence on Vine. In 2014, her song "Nothing on Me" went viral. The success prompted Romiti to make the choice to leave school, forgoing her basketball career, and return to Chicago to focus on her music. Two independent EPs followed, the latter of which launched the viral hit "Imma Dog Too." The song even caught the attention of celebrities like Kylie Jenner, who promoted the track online and helped solidify Romiti as a hot property. Buoyed by her growing fan base, she signed with RCA, and in 2018 she delivered her debut major-label EP, Tomboy, featuring the singles "Never Thought" and "Options."
