Assertive rapper, singer, and songwriter Melii made significant commercial headway in 2017 with a bilingual remake of Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow," but she promptly made it known that she had more to offer than creative twists on the work of other artists. Raised on an assortment of Dominican and Latin fusion sounds in her Harlem household, Melii had her head turned in another direction when a cousin played her J. Cole's "College Boy." At the time, Melii was only nine years old, but the track pointed her toward rap as a viable creative outlet beyond writing. She made her official recorded debut in August 2017 with the mellow but assured "No Simple Chick," followed it two months later with "Bodak Yellow," and by the end of the year had released a third single, the tougher "Balling." The atmospheric "Bk Woe" and pouty yet swaggering "Icey" were issued in early 2018 as Melii prepared the release of her first album. Additional singles followed throughout the year including "Sh*t Talk," "La Envidia Mata," and "Como Si Na." Her debut, PhAses, landed in 2019 and featured appearances by Tory Lanez, Odalys, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie.

A natural talent, Quando Rondo was once a small child, secretly singing in the bathroom as a 9-year-old boy in Savannah, GA. His natural gravitation towards music lead to him to hip-hop; he began recording his fledgling verses on his cell phone. He quickly gained traction online, racking up millions of views on YouTube.

Fittingly, he titled his 2018 mixtape 'Life B4 Fame' with the hopes that things would change for the better once his career really took off. He was right—within two days, his mixtape had amassed more than one million streams on MyMixtapez. Things will only go up from there, and if the snippets from his forthcoming Rich Homie Quando project are any sign, he’s only only getting better with time.

Rising from social media to become a recording artist, Michigan native DDG traded comedy for rapping, releasing a series of singles and collaborations in the late 2010s. His self-released debut, Take Me Serious, arrived in 2018.

Born Darryl Granberry Jr. in Pontiac, DDG got his start in 2014, posting videos online as PontiacMadeDDG. As his following grew to over a million subscribers, he continued creating comedic content (parodies, pranks, skits, and challenges) until transitioning to rap. Early singles "Dope" and "Lettuce" with Famous Dex arrived around 2017. As his audience expanded, he attracted more high-profile collaborators, including YBN Nahmir, G Herbo, and Black Youngsta on "Run It Up" and Queen Naija on "Hold Up." He issued the mixtape Take Me Serious in 2018, following in 2019 with the EP Sorry 4 the Hold Up (Epic/Sony).

A sprightly pop band from the Camden borough of London, Kawala found success in 2018 when their percussive indie folk-inflected single "Do It Like You Do" became a streaming hit. Thanks to their bright, melodic style, they have earned comparisons to bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and Glass Animals.

Kawala were initially formed as an acoustic duo by singer Jim Higson and guitarist/singer Daniel McCarthy, who studied music together at university in Leeds before heading back to North London to immerse themselves in the local music scene. A 2015 appearance on the popular Mahogany Sessions video series raised their profile significantly, and they soon fleshed out the band with the addition of lead guitarist Dan Lee, bassist Reeve Coulson, and drummer Ben Batten.

Kawala issued their debut single, "Small Death," in 2017, following it in early 2018 with "Do It Like You," becoming a streaming success in the process. As Kawala picked up steam throughout 2018, they began making festival appearances at Live at Leeds and The Great Escape, eventually releasing their debut EP, D.I.L.Y.D., later that summer on Mahogany Records.

Known as MAJOR., Major Johnson Finley is a contemporary R&B singer and songwriter whose work is rooted in classic soul with a pop touch. Born in Denton, Texas, he was raised in Houston, graduated from the city's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (following the likes of Robert Glasper and Beyoncé), and subsequently attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music. Finley's career kicked into high gear after he signed with Harmony Samuels' B.O.E. Music Group. He released his debut album for the label, I Am MAJOR., in 2016. A single taken from it, "Why I Love You," earned the admiration of Stevie Wonder and Patti LaBelle (the latter of whom performed it in concert) and peaked at number five on Billboard's Adult R&B Songs chart. This success was followed in 2017 with another number five Adult R&B Songs placement in the form of "Honest," a remix of "Why I Love You" featuring Shaggy and Rock City, and the artist's third charting single, "Spend Christmas with You."

“Our film echoes the buzzing energy of Dan’s music by capturing the time lapse activity of flesh-eating beetles. We worked with comedian Aparna Nancharla to create a protagonist who watches with strange bemusement as their body is broken down into compost by thousands of insects. Dancing playfully around the song’s themes of death and decay, the underlying message is that openness towards mortality can make it more possible to enjoy this precious life.

A dreamy folk-pop band from Pennsylvania who found niche success in the alt-rock community of the early '90s, the Innocence Mission's wistful sound is led by the husband-and-wife duo of Don and Karen Peris. Along with bassist Mike Bitts and drummer Steve Brown, they released a trio of well-regarded albums for A&M, the most visible of which was 1995's Glow, which yielded the folky sleeper hit "Bright as Yellow," a staple of modern rock radio and the Empire Records soundtrack. After slimming down to an acoustic trio with the departure of Brown, the band ushered in a successful second phase as a chamber folk act beginning with 1999's critically acclaimed Birds of My Neighborhood and continued into the 2010s with late-period highlights like 2007's We Walked in Song and 2018's Sun on the Square.

HMLTD is an English post-punk band from London, formed in 2015. The six-piece band consists of lead vocalist Henry Spychalski, guitarists James and Duke, bassist Nico, drummer Achilleas and Zac on keyboards.

HMLTD has been criticised for their being heterosexual men appropriating gender bender aesthetics, including cross-dressing, make-up, and flamboyant performances. Spychalski argues that "A lot of it comes down to wanting to create something beautiful. But something that doesn’t necessarily fall within the standard confines of what you might call beauty".

Their image and sound can be traced to the Ziggy Stardust era of David Bowie and the New Romantic period in the 1980s. Their sound has been compared to a wide range of acts such as The Prodigy and Peaches. They have also been regarded as avant-garde for their infusion of EDM and experimental pop with their guitar-oriented sound.

On 20 July 2018, HMLTD released their debut extended play, Hate Music Last Time Delete.

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Ryan Pollie first came to the public's attention in 2014 with his lo-fi bedroom indie pop project Los Angeles Police Department. Following a battle with cancer, Pollie issued his third album and the first under his own name with the eponymously titled Ryan Pollie in 2019.

"No Woman, No Cry" is a reggae song by Bob Marley and the Wailers. The song first became known in 1974 from the studio album Natty Dread. This studio version used a drum machine. The live version from the 1975 album Live! was released as a single and is the best known version; it was included on the greatest hits compilation Legend, and was recorded at the Lyceum Theatre in London on July 17, 1975 as part of his Natty Dread Tour.

"Pet Sematary" was originally written upon request by Stephen King for his 1989 film adaption of the same name, to soundtrack the end credits. It became one of the band’s most successful radio hits and was a staple of their concerts during the 90s.

"Pet Sematary" is a single by American punk rock band Ramones, from their 1989 album Brain Drain. The song, originally written for the Stephen King 1989 film adaptation of the same name, became one of the Ramones' biggest radio hits and was a staple of their concerts during the 1990s.

King is a huge Ramones fan and invited the band to his Bangor, Maine home as they played in New England. During the visit, he handed Dee Dee Ramone a copy of his Pet Sematary novel, and the bassist retreated to the basement. One hour later, Dee Dee returned with the lyrics to "Pet Sematary". Shortly afterwards, drummer Marky Ramone said that Dee Dee's attitude that day showed that he could achieve his plans to leave the band and attempt a career at hip hop music. He likened Dee Dee to King, saying that both wrote things people could relate to because they "penetrated to the curiosity, fears, and insecurities carried around with them and couldn't put into words."

Producer Daniel Rey became a co-writer by assisting with the structure of the song, while producer Jean Beauvoir of the Plasmatics helped give the song a more commercial style fit for radio play and film inclusion. As "Pet Sematary" sounded closer to the rock ballads of the period, it was a struggle for Johnny Ramone to play the arpeggios and chords, despite Dee Dee's guidance.

The music video for "Pet Sematary" was filmed at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in the eponymous New York village. Shot on a cold night in January 1989, the video features black and white shots of the Ramones walking through the graveyard, as well as color footage of the band and various others miming to the song alongside an open grave. The video ends with the band playing on a hydraulic platform placed inside the open grave, which is gradually lowered until a group of undertakers covers the grave with a headstone that reads "The Ramones." It was the last video featuring Dee Dee Ramone, who would depart the band and be replaced with C. J. Ramone. The video features cameos by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie, as well as members of The Dead Boys. An alternate edit of the video features the aforementioned scenes interspersed with scenes from the film, with the opening footage of the band walking through the graveyard now appearing in color.
