Timothy Brown, New York, USA. Father’s debut album included the Top 20 US hit, ‘I’ll Do 4 U’, and a powerful scene-setter between Father and Lady Kazan. On his return in 1994 for a belated third album, Sex Is Law, he dropped the MC suffix he had previously employed. It tied in with a switch in image too, from lovers rock hip-hop to down and dirty gangsta pimp. Gimmicky raps such as ‘69’ were the order of the day, as Father perved his way through a succession of saucy rhymes. There was a nod to the New Jack Swing movement with tracks produced by Teddy Riley and Pete Rock, who added an En Vogue sample to ‘R&B Swinger’. Other samples included the Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’. The sexual lyrics were given a brief respite on his duet with Little Shawn, ‘For The Brothers Who Ain’t Here’, a touching commemoration of loss in the ghetto.

"Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" is a 1973 song by Bruce Springsteen, from his The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle album, and is especially famed as a concert number for Springsteen and The E Street Band. The song, which clocks in at just over seven minutes, is a story of forbidden love between the singer and the titular Rosalita, whose parents disapprove of his life in a rock and roll band. It is included on the compilation albums The Essential Bruce Springsteen and Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Greatest Hits.

Never released as a single in U.S. and generally unknown upon its initial album release, "Rosalita" began to get FM radio airplay when an advance version of "Born to Run" was given out to rock radio stations. As Springsteen gained commercial success, "Rosalita" became one of his most popular airplay tracks, and is still heard on classic rock radio. The song, despite never receiving an official US single release, has been lauded hugely by music critics in the years since its release in 1973. On its release Ken Emerson of Rolling Stone dubbed it "a raucous celebration of desire." In Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981), Robert Christgau described it as "more lyrical and ironic than you could have dreamed." George P Pelecanos of Uncut magazine has called it "One of the great rock'n roll performances, and as close to a perfect song as anyone's ever recorded," while Chris T-T in the same publication declared "Never mind The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, this is the best rock'n roll track of all time." The song is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Its music video occupies the #71 spot on Rolling Stone's 1993 list of the top 100 videos.

The aggregation of critics' lists at placed this song at number 950 on their list of the top 10,000 songs of all time.

Though it was not released as a single in the US (or anywhere at the time of the album's release), "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" was released as a single in the Netherlands and some other European countries in 1979.

London-based alternative rock quartet Gengahr was formed by friends studying at the Stoke Newington School in Hackney. Comprising bassist Hugh Schulte, drummer Danny Ward, and guitarists Felix Bushe and John Victor, the group was initially called RES, but switched to Gengahr when the bandmembers discovered another group already had the same name. In 2014, Gengahr recorded a demo that circulated widely, and the band quickly caught the ears of fans, promoters, and radio programmers. Their debut album, A Dream Outside, surfaced in 2015 via Transgressive Records and gathered rave reviews nearly across the board for its dark take on dreamy shoegaze and updated approach to British-bred indie rock. The band promoted the record on a nationwide and European tour before getting to work on their sophomore effort. The record -- titled Where Wilderness Grows -- arrived in late 2017. They returned in 2020 for their third LP, Sanctuary. Released independently, the record saw the London four-piece return to their original D.I.Y. approach.

Snarky Puppy - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [R'n'B, Soul, Funk, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Snarky Puppy
Added: 28-11-2019
Genre : R'n'B, Soul, Funk, Live In Concert
Description : Snarky Puppy: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Nov. 20, 2019 | Colin Marshall -- Seconds before we hit record, Snarky Puppy's bandleader, Michael League leaned in to ask if he could "do a little crowd work." I suspect he waited until the last second on purpose, but it's been easy to trust this band when they have an idea, judging by the three Grammy Awards they get to dust off at home after every tour run.

What resulted was a Tiny Desk first: League divided the audience into two sections, one side clapping out a 3/4 beat and the other half a 4/4 beat, creating a polyrhythm that I'm sure a handful of coworkers didn't feel so confident trying to pull off. But this band pulls you in with simple instruction and a little faith.

Snarky Puppy has been a force for a while now, earning the ears of millions for more than a decade. And their secret sauce? A long-simmered recipe of jazz, funk and gospel. The band started as college friends in the jazz program at the University of North Texas back in 2003. But the formative era came a few years later, after League became a part of the gospel scene in Dallas and eventually brought the jazz students to church, where music plays a different role than it does in the classroom. In the pulpit, it's a channel for spiritual healing, a communal experience between players and congregation. As an experiment, League pulled his jazz friends and his gospel bandmates into one ensemble, where the two groups bonded together and established ground-zero for building the sonic identity of Snarky Puppy.

Thirteen albums later, you can still hear these gospel and jazz orbits crashing into each other. They're masters of theme and variation, offering anyone with a listening ear a place to grab hold. And people do. They're a band whose lyric-less melodies are still yelled (sung back) to them at their concerts around the world, as a shared catharsis for everyone in the room.

An acclaimed fusion-influenced jam band, Snarky Puppy have built a loyal following with their adventurous blend of jazz, rock, and funk. Led by bassist Michael League, the band emerged in the mid-2000s and garnered buzz with albums like 2006's The Only Constant, 2010's Tell Your Friends, and 2013's Family Dinner, Vol. 1, which took home the Grammy for Best R&B Performance for their cover of the Brenda Russell song "Something" featuring singer Lalah Hathaway. More accolades followed, including further Grammy Awards for 2015's Sylva and 2016's Culcha Vulcha.

In 2019, they issued the League-produced Immigrance, which included the single "Xavi."

"4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)", often known just as "Sandy", is a 1973 song by Bruce Springsteen, originally appearing as the second song on his album The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle.

One of the best-known and most praised of his early efforts, the song remains one of his most popular ballads, and has been described as "the perfect musical study of the Jersey Shore boardwalk culture."

The song was also recorded as a 1975 single by The Hollies.

Within the E Street Band, the song was heavily identified with Danny Federici's accordion part, which is the main musical element. "Sandy" was played several times late on the first leg of the 2007–2008 Magic Tour, including Federici's final regular appearance in November 2007 before taking a leave of absence for melanoma treatment. When Federici made his only return to the stage after that, on March 20, 2008, when he appeared for portions of a Springsteen and E Street Band performance at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, "Sandy" was the one song that he requested be performed. Following Federici's April 17, 2008 death, "Sandy" was performed in tribute to him, with Roy Bittan taking over the accordion part. In July 2008, the live EP Magic Tour Highlights was released, with the final Federici performance of "Sandy" the closing track.

"Self Control" is a song by Italian singer Raf, released in 1984. It was written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo and Raf. The song was covered the same year by American singer Laura Branigan. Her version first hit no. 1 in Germany on June 15, 1984. Raf's version first hit no. 1 in Italy on June 23, 1984. Both versions of the song were popular across Europe during much of the summer of 1984 and were the most successful single of the year in Switzerland.

Benji Webbe - vocals
Mikey Demus - guitar, vocals
Daniel Pugsley - bass, vocals
Arya Goggin - drums

Skindred blend reggae and dancehall with searing thrash and punk influences for a striking hybrid of heavy metal. The group emerged from Wales in 1998, after the dissolution of vocalist Benji Webbe's previous band, Dub War. Rehearsals for a new project featuring other Dub War veterans didn't work out, but soon Webbe had hooked up with bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Dirty Arya, and Skindred were officially born. The debut LP, Babylon, first appeared in 2002 and 2003, with sporadic success in parts of Europe and the U.S. metal underground. But it wasn't until a year or so later and Lava Records' involvement that the album really took off. Skindred re-released Babylon in August 2004. Lava's version featured different cover art, and included newly recorded material in addition to the original Howard Benson-helmed songs. The band released Roots Rock Riot in 2007, followed by Shark Bites & Dog Fights in 2009. Two years later, they released their fourth album, Union Black, which did not have a U.S. release. After releasing Kill the Power (which included the Rasta-rocking shredder "Ninja"), they left BMG and signed with Napalm Records for the release of their sixth album, Volume, in 2015. The effort peaked in the Top 20 of the U.S. Heatseekers chart, while landing in the Top 30 of the U.K. charts. The band returned in 2017 with "Machine," featuring Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell and Reef vocalist Gary Stringer. The single was the first taste of album seven, Big Tings, which arrived in spring 2018.
