Bruce Johnston, born Billy Baldwin, (June 27, 1942) is an American musician and composer, who became known as a member of The Beach Boys, replacing Brian Wilson for live concerts in 1965. Initially he was only involved in the band's tours and continued to work as a singer, composer and producer for other bands. With the song 'California Girls' he was also represented in the studio for the first time. At 'God Only Knows' he sings a voice in the background. On the album 20/20 (1969) Johnston appeared for the first time as a composer and producer for The Beach Boys.
His songs for the Beach Boys include "Tears in the Morning" (1970), "Deirdre" (1970), and "Disney Girls (1957)" (1971).
On his Columbia Records 1977 solo album 'Going Public', he scored a hit on the disco charts with a dance-oriented remake of the Chantays' hit "Pipeline".
This single reached in the Dutch Tipparade no. 14 on 8 October 1977
