Bringing the spirit of Death Row Records to the 2010s, Sacramento MC Mozzy spits gritty rhymes with ominous productions. Born Timothy Patterson, he began rapping in 2004 under the name Lil Tim, releasing the "U Ain't Ready Like Dat" single in 2010. A name change came in 2011 when he issued the album Money Means Mozzy, which was followed by his 2013 mixtape The Tonite Show, hosted by DJ Fresh. Four mixtapes dropped in 2014, including Free Mozzy, which was issued while the MC was locked up on illegal firearm charges. Gangland landed in 2015 along with Yellow Tape Activities, and 2016 saw the Empire label issue both Beautiful Struggle and Mandatory Check. That same year, he contributed to a slew of collaborations with artists like Dutch Santana, E Mozzy, Juneonnabeat, and Philthy Rich. He followed in early 2017 with Fake Famous, which featured appearances by Iamsu!, E Mozzy, Cellyru, YFN Lucci, YG, G-Eazy, Jadakiss, and many more. After issuing the collaborative Can't Fake the Real with Blac Youngsta and Dreadlocks & Headshots with Gunplay, Mozzy released 1 Up Top Ahk, which debuted in the Top 100 on the Billboard main album chart in the summer of 2017. After appearing on the chart-topping soundtrack to the film Black Panther, Mozzy issued "Nobody Knows" with Jay Rock and DCMBR. A prolific 2018 included the Spiritual Conversations EP, as well as full-length Gangland Landlord. That year, he also joined Kae One for the collaborative set, Run It Up Activities (Team Player Records), which also featured the Jacka, Philthy Rich, and E Mozzy. In early 2019, Mozzy and Berner teamed up for the collaborative mixtape Slimey Individualz, which Mozzy followed up in May with the heartfelt "Legal Guardian/Guardian Angel," a track that paid homage to his grandmother.

Soccer Mommy is the home-recorded solo project of singer/songwriter Sophie Allison. The Nashville native started uploading her introspective guitar pop songs to music-sharing site Bandcamp as a high school student in the mid-2010s. Combining updated versions of some of the Bandcamp material and newer unreleased songs, Soccer Mommy's Collection arrived on Fat Possum in the summer of 2017 while the songwriter was enrolled at New York University. Produced and mixed by Allison, it was recorded by Jacob Corenflos and followed by a tour supporting acts such as the Drums and Jay Som. The following year, Allison returned with the full-length debut record Clean, which was produced by Gabe Wax (Deerhunter, the War on Drugs). Later that year she released a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" and in October 2019 the brooding and playful single "Lucy."

As an early pillar of Atlanta's groundbreaking trap scene, Rich the Kid moved from collaborations with Migos, Young Thug, and others to starting his own label just a few years later. With a style very much in line with the dark, highly pressurized flows of other icons of Atlanta hip-hop, he established himself with a string of mixtapes and singles that has led to a deal with major-label Interscope Records, the multi-platinum hit "New Freezer" (2017), and the Top Five albums The World Is Yours (2018) and The World Is Yours 2 (2019).

Kentrell DeSean Gaulden (born October 20, 1999), known professionally as YoungBoy Never Broke Again (also known as NBA YoungBoy or simply YoungBoy), is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Between 2015 and 2017, Gaulden would release eight independent mixtapes locally and online, and steadily garner a cult following through his work. In late 2017, Gaulden was signed to Atlantic Records, who would distribute two additional mixtapes before releasing his highest charting single, "Outside Today" in January 2018–which peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was the lead single for his debut studio album Until Death Call My Name, released in April of that year. His follow up singles include "Valuable Pain", "Slime Belief" and "Genie".

On October 10, 2019, YoungBoy released his mixtape AI Youngboy 2, marking his first full length project since 2018's Realer. The mixtape is a sequel to his 2017 breakout AI Youngboy and features 18 songs, including the previously released song "Slime Mentality".

Australian punks Cable Ties were formed by Jenny McKenchie (vocals, guitars), Nick Brown (bass), and Shauna Boyle (drums), with the group playing their debut gig at 2015's annual Wetfest -- a non-binary-inclusive music festival in Melbourne celebrating the city's diverse D.I.Y. scene, curated by McKenchie's other band, Wet Lips. Delivering a mix of D.I.Y. punk and garage, with a nod to AC/DC, the trio quickly built up a reputation by playing a huge number of live shows in their first year on the local scene. Their first effort was released in March 2016 -- the single "Same for Me" -- followed six months later by a split single with Wet Lips. By the end of 2016 Cable Ties had opened the Meredith Music Festival and earned themselves the "Golden Boot" -- a tradition that involves the crowd unanimously holding their boots and shoes in the air as a seal of approval; they were the first opening band to receive the accolade. At the beginning of 2017, McKenchie and Boyle helped curate the first Girls Rock! Melbourne event -- an initiative that empowers girls and non-gender youths to get involved in music and music education. The trio then headed out on tour with fellow Aussies Camp Cope and signed a deal with local label Poison City Records; their Paul Maybury-produced eponymous debut album appeared in May. The group again went on tour in support of the release with shows across Australia.

Creating lo-fi indie rock with mischievous lyrics delivered with deceptively bittersweet vocals, Anna Burch is an American alternative singer/songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. She developed a taste for the arts early on with an affinity for Disney songs during her childhood years and the work of Fiona Apple in her teens. Burch covered songs by the latter at open-mike nights and by the age of 18 she was recording and touring with her first band, Frontier Ruckus. She eventually went on to share lead vocal duties in the Ann Arbor-based Failed Flowers. It was during this time that Anna began to pen her own material. After a brief hiatus from music while she attended graduate school in Chicago, she returned to songwriting in Detroit in 2014. Her own songs had begun to take on more shape and structure, with friends on the scene encouraging Burch to assemble a live band to begin performing the demo ideas she had. With her ever-changing ideas, Anna eventually began to perform solo shows with a fully realized backing band. Her first official release was an eponymous split single with fellow Detroit artist Stef Chura in early 2016. The singer began earning comparisons to artists like Waxahatchee and Courtney Barnett before fellow Michigan-based musician Fred Thomas sent some of her demos to his label, Polyvinyl. This led to the attention of producer/engineer Collin Dupuis (Lana Del Rey, Angel Olsen), who offered to help mix her songs. The result consisted of nine songs that became Burch's debut album, Quit the Curse. The record saw release via Polyvinyl in early 2018.

Jack River is the nom de plume of New South Wales-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter Holly Rankin. Originally performing under her own name, Rankin's laid-back, psych-tinged electropop earned her a loyal local following. As she began to make waves in Sydney, she took on the Jack River moniker, eventually catching the attention of Aussie indie I Oh You Records. Her first single under the pseudonym, the Rankin-and-Xavier Dunn-produced "Talk Like That," was issued by the label in early 2016 in anticipation of the release of her debut EP, Highway Songs #2, later that year. Two more singles, "Fault Line" and "Ballroom," followed in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Bas started rapping as a lark and within a decade became a central member of the Dreamville roster with Last Winter (2014), Too High to Riot (2016), and Milky Way (2018), charting albums characterized by thoughtful and versatile wordplay.

The son of Sudanese parents, Bas (short for Abbas Hamad) was raised in Paris until the age of eight, when his family moved to Jamaica, Queens. Coerced by a friend, he started rapping in 2010, and a series of informal sessions later was linked to J. Cole. Bas' development as a performer was fostered by touring with Cole, who eventually signed the fledgling artist to his Interscope-affiliated Dreamville label. Last Winter, jokingly referred to as "An album from a n*gga who ain't got alotta fans yet," was released as a digital download and a CD in April 2014. It featured appearances from Cole and Mack Wilds and debuted on Billboard's R&B/hip-hop chart at number 18. Bas contributed to Dreamville's Revenge of the Dreamers, Vol. 2 compilation in 2015 prior to releasing his second proper album, Too High to Riot, the following March. Highlighted by "Night Job" and more lucid and energized than indicated by its title, the full-length went Top Ten R&B/hip-hop and cracked the Top 50 of the Billboard 200.
Milky Way followed in August 2018, becoming Bas' third consecutive Top 20 R&B/hip-hop entry and debuting on the Billboard 200 at number 35, pushed by the breezy, Edu Lobo-sampling Cole collaboration "Tribe." The following spring, he teamed up with fellow Dreamville rapper J.I.D for the K-Quick-produced single "Fried Rice." It appeared on Spilled Milk, Vol. 1 (the first of an episodic series of EPs) along with appearances from Ari Lennox, EarthGang, and Kiddominant, among others.

Igorrr is the pseudonym of French multi-instrumentalist and electronic producer Gautier Serre (born 1984) of electronic grindcore project Whourkr. His solo work combines frenetic breakbeats with operatic vocals, metal riffs, gypsy violins, and a multitude of other sounds, resulting in an intense, disturbing, and undeniably distinct experience. The unique blend of meticulous drum programming and acoustic instrumentation on his self-released demos Poisson Soluble (2006) and Moisissure (2008) garnered attention from Berlin-based experimental label Ad Noiseam, who issued his proper debut Nostril in 2010. Its companion EP, Baroquecore, was also released that year on Aentitainment. The refined complexity of these releases earned him positive critical response from French publications Les Inrockuptibles and Trax, as well as airtime on commercial radio. Ad Noiseam reissued his demos as a double-CD in 2011. 2012 found him expanding further on his use of live instruments on his second proper full-length, Hallelujah, a collection of pieces intended to signal the apocalypse and featuring a myriad of collaborators ranging from Baroque singer Laure Le Prunenec to Mayhem guitarist Teloch. In 2013, a 7" of remixes with ragga junglist Bong-Ra was released on PRSPCT RVLT. It was followed one year later by the Maigre EP on Ad Noiseam, a collaboration with Ruby My Dear. After a few years of silence, Igorrr signed to legendary metal label Metal Blade, which released his full-length, Savage Sinusoid, in 2017. The album was completely devoid of samples, and featured several guest musicians, including members of Cattle Decapitation and Secret Chiefs 3.

Marc E. Bassy is the contemporary R&B and rap alias of San Francisco-born artist Marc Griffin. The singer and songwriter was previously a member of 2AM Club, a band that released an album in 2010 on the RCA label and split a few years later. Compromised creatively by his time in the band, Griffin approached the next phase of his career in an informal, less measured fashioned. He adopted Marc E. Bassy as his performing name -- Count Bassy was a moniker of Alex Rau, an associate -- and uploaded tracks to his SoundCloud page. In 2014, he released the single "Relapse" (featuring Iamsu!) and the mixtape Only the Poets through EO Entertainment. Signed to Universal Music Group division Republic, he issued an EP, East Hollywood, in 2015. The nine-track release featured appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, G-Eazy, Bobby Brackins, and P-Lo. In 2016, Bassy delivered his sophomore EP, Groovy People, which included the single "You & Me," featuring G-Eazy. The following year, he returned with "Plot Twist," a single featuring rapper Kyle, and in 2017 he issued his full-length debut, Gossip Columns.

Falling on the more melodic side of the post-hardcore world, Florida's Sleeping with Sirens create a whirlwind of emotion with their yearning and aggressive blend of metal and emo influences. Formed in 2009, Sleeping with Sirens -- featuring vocalist Kellin Quinn, guitarists Jack Fowler and Jesse Lawson, bassist Justin Hills, and drummer Gabe Barham -- quickly caught the attention of metalcore label Rise Records, which signed them and released their debut record, With Ears to See, And Eyes to Hear, in 2010. The album launched the band onto the Billboard Heatseekers chart, debuting at number seven and selling over 25,000 copies. Their sophomore effort, Let's Cheers to This, arrived in May of the following year. At the beginning of 2013, the bandmembers announced they had entered the studio to record their third album, and Feel was released just six months later. The album debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. Madness, the band's fourth studio long-player and first outing for Epitaph Records, arrived in early 2015. Live and Unplugged followed the next year, an acoustic set that also included covers of Sublime's "Santeria" and Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris." The band's fifth set, Gossip, arrived in 2017 on Warner Bros. Produced by David Bendeth, the album featured a stark, pop-friendly shift heard on tracks such as the lead single "Legends." Over the next two years, the band played major tours of North America and Europe in support of the album, and in early 2019 announced a new record deal with Sumerian Records. Their first effort for the label, How It Feels to Be Lost, arrived later that year. Dijon Isaiah McFarlane (born June 5, 1990), known professionally as Mustard (formerly DJ Mustard), is an American record producer, DJ, rapper, songwriter and record executive from Los Angeles, California. He is a frequent collaborator of fellow California-bred artists YG and Ty Dolla Sign; among various other records for the hip hop and R&B genres since his entrance into mainstream music with Tyga's 2011 single, "Rack City".

Mustard's production style has been described as an up-tempo, club oriented, catchy yet rudimentary melodic hip hop style. This style has developed into the contemporary production style of West Coast hip hop during the early 2010s, which he calls "ratchet music". Almost all of his productions begin or end with the tag "Mustard on the beat, hoe!", a voice sample of YG, who says it at the end of "I'm Good", one of their early collaborations, as well as claps and repetition of the word "hey".

Mustard has since released 3 solo albums: 10 Summers in August 2014, Cold Summer in September 2016, and Perfect Ten in June 2019.
