Underground Lovers (sometimes stylised as undergroundLOVERS), are an Australian indie rock and electronic music band. The founding mainstays are Glenn Bennie (guitar, vocals) and Vincent Giarrusso (vocals, guitar, keyboard) who had formed the group as GBVG, in 1988. By May 1990 the duo were renamed as Underground Lovers and joined by Richard Andrew (drums), Maurice Argiro (bass guitar) and Philippa Nihill (vocals, guitar and keyboard).

The innovative Underground Lovers are the premier group bridging Australian music from the traditional drums and guitar rock of the past to the technology and electronic-influenced music of the late '80s and beyond. It all started as the musical expression of Glen Bennie and Vincent Giarrusso, and within the space of ten years and six albums it ended up that way again.

The confrontational Sauce Walka is a Houston-based rapper with an exuberant, sporadic delivery similar to Young Thug. Among his releases are the Sorry 4 the Sauce mixtape series (2015-2017) and highly animated tracks such as "Sauce Overload" (2018).

Born Albert Walker Mondane, the rapper makes up one half of Sauce Twinz, along with Sancho Saucy. He began releasing tracks and mixtapes in 2014, as well as appearing on releases by Slim Thug and DJ Holiday. Sauce Walka gained notoriety in 2015 when he accused Drake of using Houston's hip-hop culture, stealing its dance moves, and not supporting the local hip-hop scene; during the year also released the first two volumes of the mixtape series Sorry 4 the Sauce. The cover of his 2016 mixtape Holy Sauce targeted Drake, as well as other rappers such as Famous Dex and Future. Across the next couple years, Sauce Walka's rate of output remained consistent with Sorry 4 the Sauce 3, additional tapes including Drip God and Sauce Ghetto Gospel, and loose tracks highlighted by "Sauce Overload."

Chicago rapper Calboy looked to his own struggles with mental health and substance use when writing some of his hardest-hitting rhymes. Going so far as to name one of his mixtapes Anxiety, his songs loom heavy with moody melodies and huge trap beats. Several singles such as "Can't Tell" paved the way for new fans, but it was the 2018 single "Envy Me" that broke through to millions with a viral video.

Calboy was born Calvin Wood in 1999. He was raised in the gritty South Chicago neighborhood of Calumet City, growing up amid crime and violence. This hostile environment would influence his music early on, with lyrics reflecting both the tough conditions of street life and the anxiety and depression he felt because of it. He formed a crew of artists and friends called the Paper Gang and set about working on music both solo and with this collective. His first mixtape, The Chosen One, was released in 2017 and was followed months later that same year with second mixtape Anxiety. 2018 brought the brief ten-song mixtape Calboy the Wild Boy, released again with Paper Gang. While working on his next project, Calboy dropped the single "Envy Me" in September of 2018. The song caught on in a massive way, being streamed millions of times within its first few months of release. The buzz surrounding Calboy, the song and its place in a burgeoning scene of melodic rap coming out of Chicago was enough to land the rapper a major-label deal with RCA. In 2019, the Wildboy mixtape was assembled around the song, and included features from Lil Durk, Young Thug, Polo G, and others.

Actor and pop-R&B vocalist Jacob Latimore first gained fame as a Radio Disney artist in the mid-2000s before coming to wider recognition with his 2007 single "Superstar." Along with singing, Latimore has appeared in film and TV projects including Vanishing on 7th Street, The Maze Runner, Detroit, and The Chi. He released his debut album, The Connection, in 2016.

Born Jacob O'Neal Latimore, Jr. in 1996 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Latimore got his first taste of fame at a very young age, when his first single, the 2005 release "Best Friend," was played on Radio Disney. Placed in Radio Disney's Incubator program, he performed with fellow child artists and appeared on Maury Povich's nationally televised talk show. Latimore and his family subsequently moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta, Georgia for the sake of advancing his budding entertainment career. His next single, "Superstar," was co-written and co-produced by Rico Love; it peaked at number 84 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in September 2007. Additional strides were made in 2010, when Latimore signed with the Jive label and appeared in the film Vanishing on 7th Street. Even though he had inked a major recording contract, he continued to act, with appearances on the television series Read Between the Lines and The Finder. He also released a series of mixtapes, including 2009's I Am the Future, and 2012's This Is Me.

Another single, "Like 'Em All," enjoyed an extended stay on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and reached number 55 in December 2011. The suggestive (if respectful) "You Come First," released the following summer, also charted. Featuring guest vocals from T-Pain, the single "Heartbreak Heard Around the World" followed in 2014. Latimore returned in 2015 with another single, "The Climb," which also appeared on his debut album Connection. Released in 2016, it included the IshDARR collaboration "The Real." A fourth mixtape, This Is Me 3, arrived in 2019.

A thoughtful performer with a distinctive voice and a knack for crafting melodic contemporary soft rock tunes, James Blunt is best known for his international chart-topping single "You're Beautiful," a mournful ode to unrequited love. It was the second single from his debut album, 2004's Back to Bedlam, which became the U.K.'s top-selling album for the year 2005. Success soon followed in the U.S., where the song hit number one and the album went to number two early the next year. A former British Army officer, Blunt remained an international Top Ten artist through releases such as his optimistic third long-player, 2010's Some Kind of Trouble and 2017's The Afterlove, a more polished fifth full-length that saw him join forces with songwriter/producers including Ed Sheeran.

Once Upon a Mind is the sixth studio album by the English singer James Blunt, released on 25 October 2019 through Atlantic Records. Blunt will embark on the Once Upon a Mind Tour in 2020.

Jan. 8, 2019 | Tom Huizenga -- After the ferociously talented harpist Bridget Kibbey unpacked her 47-stringed instrument at our NPR Music offices, she proceeded to crush the stereotype of the genteel harp, plucked by angels. She proved that the instrument can be as tempestuous as a tango, as complex as a Bach fugue and sing as serenely as a church choir.

Kibbey is crazy for the harp. She first heard one at a country church amid the Northwest Ohio cornfields where she grew up. Now she's the go-to harpist for contemporary composers, some of whom who are writing pieces especially for her.

For this Tiny Desk set, she deploys her arresting technique to rework music both old and new. Her blistering arrangement of J.S. Bach's familiar Toccata and Fugue in D minor offers tightly interwoven voices, like gears in a clock, with melodies and rhythms that sparkle. Her steamy rendition of jazz great Paquito D'Rivera's Bandoneon, the Argentine tango, struts proudly. And, finally, she returns to Bach, to let the instrument sing variations on the aching chorale "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded," from the St. Matthew Passion.

With an irrepressible musician like Bridget Kibbey, we're going to have to start re-thinking the harp.

Dublin, Ireland-based modern rock quartet Kodaline specialize in soaring, radio-ready guitar rock that's drawn comparisons to Coldplay, Keane, U2, and Oasis. Formed in the working-class town of Swords around the talents of Steve Garrigan, Vinnie May, Jr., Jason Boland, and Mark Prendergast, the band released an eponymous EP in 2012, with plans to unleash a full-length outing the following year. At the end of 2012, the band was shortlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2013, but was beaten to the top spot by HAIM. Kodaline released their debut album, In a Perfect World, in June 2013, which was preceded by the singles High Hopes and Love Like This. The album was a major success in Ireland, going platinum twice, and it also did well in Britain (it peaked at three and went gold) as well as portions of Europe. Kodaline's second album, Coming Up for Air, followed in early 2015. The album peaked at number four on the U.K. charts and spawned the singles "The One" and "Honest." In the summer of 2017, the band returned with the single "Brother" and the I Wouldn't Be EP. The next year, they issued the single "Follow Your Fire," which landed on their pop-leaning third full-length, Politics of Living.

The Districts are a four-piece indie rock band from the small town of Lititz, Pennsylvania. The group formed in 2009 while members Rob Grote, Mark Larson, Connor Jacobus, and Braden Lawrence were still in high school. The prolific young band released their first EP, Kitchen Songs, in 2011, followed by Telephone, their debut full-length, the following year. The Districts' second EP, the more acoustic-leaning While You Were in Honesdale, was released in late 2012 and the band continued to perform regionally. Their mix of jangly indie Americana and blues-inspired rock caught the attention of Mississippi's Fat Possum Records, which signed the Districts in 2013. In January 2014, Fat Possum issued the band's self-titled third EP, which contained three remastered songs from the Telephone album along with two newly recorded tracks. Just over a year later, the Districts returned with their second album, A Flourish and a Spoil, which marked the debut of guitarist Pat Cassidy -- Larson had opted to go to college -- and was produced by John Congleton. Returning in August 2017, the Districts issued Popular Manipulations, which was partly self-recorded and also featured more production work from Congleton.

Torres is the performing pseudonym for introspective and vocally raw indie rock singer/songwriter Mackenzie Scott, a tribute to her grandfather's surname. Raised in Macon, Georgia, she began singing seriously in high school, performing in school musicals, singing in church, and taking up the guitar. As a teenager in 2009, she moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. While finishing her degree, she recorded her first album, the self-titled Torres, at singer/songwriter/guitarist Tony Joe White's studio in Franklin, Tennessee. The record was co-produced by Scott and Belmont alum Ryan McFadden and released in 2013. Though Torres didn't make an impact commercially, Scott received attention in the music press for a songwriting maturity beyond her years. After extensive touring to support the album, including opening spots for Hamilton Leithauser and Sharon Van Etten, she appeared on Van Etten's 2014 LP, Are We There? She relocated to Brooklyn for her volatile second Torres album, Sprinter, which was recorded in Dorset, England with producer Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull) and released in 2015 on Partisan Records. Following the success of her sophomore effort, she signed to the British independent record label 4AD, who released her third album in September 2017. Inspired by the writing of Lorrie Moore and Ta-Nehisi Coates, Three Futures reunited Ellis and Torres and celebrated the body's potential for joy.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Moaning is a post-punk outfit that combines melody with raucous noise. Made up of Sean Solomon, Andrew MacKelvie, and Pascal Stevenson, the three musicians struck up a friendship after running into one another repeatedly on the Los Angeles gig circuit. The trio formed a number of bands over the 2010s, playing to crowds in venues in and around L.A. With shared influences such as new-wave pioneers New Order and shoegaze act Slowdive; their sound ultimately came to fruition after Solomon sent MacKelvie and Stevenson some early demo ideas of the track "Don’t Go." Experimenting with an expansive sound involving hard percussion, reverb-laden guitar work, and vocal melodies buried within fuzzy walls of sound, the band took on an altogether darker sound than previous projects with lyrics concerning love, loss, and nihilism. After getting more demos together, the group took their material onto the live circuit and shortly thereafter booked their own mini-tours across the West Coast. They also recorded and shot a video for "The Same" -- the track caught the attention of producer Alex Newport (the Melvins, At the Drive-In). Newport offered to help record and engineer any future material and before long the band were in the studio writing and tracking ideas for their first official effort. Moaning's attitude, work ethic, and overall aesthetic caught the attention of Sub Pop, which offered them a record deal in 2017. The label put out their eponymous debut in March 2018.

1982, nur kurze Zeit nach Metallica, den Königen des Thrash Metal aus der Bay Area, gründen sich in derselben Gegend auch Testament. Die Band um den charismatischen Frontmann Chuck Billy spielt schnellen und knüppelharten Thrash Metal mit melodischen Midtempo-Parts.
Testament agieren von Anfang an mit einer gewissen Ernsthaftigkeit und einer so großen Leidenschaft für das, was sie tun, das ihre Glaubwürdigkeit und Integrität in der von vielen Poser-Gruppen geprägten Metalszene der 1980er niemals angezweifelt wird. Die Band hat dennoch zahlreiche Line-Up-Wechsel zu verkraften, sodass außer Gitarrist Eric Peterson keines der Gründungsmitglieder mehr übrig ist. Sänger Chuck Billy stieß 1986 dazu, ist aber immerhin auf allen Studioalben der Band vertreten.
Nach ihrem Debüt "The Legacy" touren sie schon mit Größen wie Anthrax, Overkill und Megadeth durch die USA und Europa. Den großen Durchbruch haben Testament mit ihrem zweiten Album "The New Order" von 1988. Testament haben im Laufe ihrer Karriere über 14 Millionen Alben verkauft. In ihren gesellschaftskritischen Texten geht es unter anderem um Politik, Korruption und viele andere gesellschaftliche und soziale Themen.
Nach zahlreichen Besetzungswechseln und Problemen innerhalb der Band wird 2001 bei Chuck Billy ein Seminom, ein Kernzellentumor, diagnostiziert. Seine Freunde organisieren daraufhin das Benefizkonzert "Thrash of the Titans", um Geld für Billys Arztkosten zu sammeln. Im Jahr 2003 hat Billy den Krebs offiziell besiegt. Nach einigen weiteren schwierigen Jahren und zahlreichen Höhen und Tiefen sind Testament mittlerweile wieder sehr erfolgreich und immer wieder weltweit auf Tour unterwegs.

Testament were the biggest thrash metal band never to reach the platinum plateau. In fact, the San Francisco quintet seemed on the verge of challenging Metallica (their most obvious influence) in the melodic thrash sweepstakes, but their run toward the top was eventually derailed by inconsistency, bad business decisions, and the genre's dwindling appeal. Unable to change with the times like Metallica, Testament quickly faded from sight in the early '90s, but have remained active and very popular within the metal underground.

Nause are a Swedish EDM/dance-pop duo who have achieved chart success in their native country. Their songs are bright, melodic, and summery, but also yearning and sentimental. The group was formed in Stockholm in 2008 by Jacob Criborn, Kami Montgarde, and Leonard Scheja, although Montgarde subsequently left. Nause started out by remixing songs by Deadmau5 and Tiësto, eventually completing official remixes for Rebecca & Fiona, Lazee, and Britney Spears. After signing with Universal, they released their debut single "Made Of" in 2011. The song was a massive radio hit, hitting number 15 in the Swedish singles chart and eventually going double-platinum. Further Top 40 hits continued, including "Mellow" and "Hungry Hearts," which hit number one in 2012. That same year, the duo toured Sweden and starred in television series Heartbeats along with Adrian Lux and Albin Myers. 2014 single "Head Over Heels" peaked at number 27. Nause signed with Warner Music in 2016 and released "Dynamite," a collaboration with Pretty Sister (American songwriter Zak Waters). The song reached number 13 on the Swedish pop charts.

Aaron Livingston, also known by his stage name Son Little, is an American rhythm & blues musician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Livingston is a son of a preacher.

On November 10, 2014, Livingston released his debut EP as Son Little titled Things I Forgot via Anti- Records.

On October 16, 2015, Livingston released his first studio album, Son Little, with Anti- Records.

Son Little has collaborated with The Roots, RJD2, and Mavis Staples, whom he spoke highly of. In an interview with Sound of Boston he named Mavis Staples as one of his favorite singers; "She's one of my favorite people, let alone favorite singer."

On June 6th, 2017, he released "Blue Magic (Waikiki)" as the first single off his next full-length studio album, New Magic, which he announced would be released on September 15th, 2017, via Anti- Records.

South African singer/songwriter Garett van der Spek (aka Prism Tats) utilizes a combination of guitars, electronica, and vocals to create an atmospheric yet structured sound. Born in Durban, South Africa, Spek was raised on the rock & roll records owned by his father. When he reached school, he eagerly formed his first band. It wasn't until he moved to America in 2000, however, that a career in music began to take shape. Soon after arriving in Seattle, he formed a three-piece punk band known as Koko & the Sweetmeats. Just as they had begun to build a local following, the bandmembers parted ways, setting the stage for Spek's solo career.

In 2014 he moved to Los Angeles, a city that would cultivate his enthusiasm for music through new creative contacts and an ever-growing audience. Initial live shows consisted of Spek on guitar and vocals backed by a drum machine and bass synth. However, as his popularity grew, he hired a drummer and a bassist in place of the machines. In the studio, Spek handled almost everything by himself until he was introduced to Chris Woodhouse (Ty Segall, Wild Flag, !!!), who undertook the production duties for his debut album. Prism Tats' self-titled full-length saw release in 2016 via the ANTI label. He spent the next year on the road, both as a headliner and a supporting act, sharing the stage with Guided by Voices, Surfer Blood, and Nada Surf, before heading back into the studio to begin work on his sophomore effort. The resulting Mamba, a more concept-driven outing, was recorded with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall) and released in 2018.

His vocals and melodic style show the clear influence of classic soul and R&B of the '60s and '70s, while his lyrics reveal an idealism and passion that recall the folk-inspired singer/songwriters of the same era. It's a combination that helped his independently produced debut album, 2011's Allen Stone, crack the Top 40 of Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He further honed his style, adopting a mix of contemporary and '90s R&B influences on 2015's Radius.

The artist-friendly ATO Records label signed Stone in 2012 and reissued his eponymous album in the summer of that year. He then signed to the Capitol label and worked extensively with fellow singer and songwriter Tingsek. The result, Radius, featuring the single "Perfect World," was released in May 2015. The album peaked at number 80 on the Billboard 200 Chart. A year later, Stone delivered a deluxe version of the album featuring seven additional tracks. In 2018, he released the single "Brown Eyed Lover" and appeared on American Idol singing a duet version of his original song "Unaware" with contestant Dennis Lorenzo. "Brown Eyed Lover" also served as the lead-off track to his fourth full-length album, 2019's Building Balance. Co-produced with Jamie Lidell, the album found Stone embracing a mix of '70s soul and '90s New Jack Swing-influenced sounds.
