Coming up somewhere between Wiz Khalifa's loose flow and hedonistic lyrics and Lil B's free spirit and love of alternative-flavored beats, Atlanta's Trinidad James went from viral to Def Jam signee, and all in his rookie season. Born Nicholas Williams in Trinidad & Tobago but raised in Atlanta, he was a 24-year-old manager of a downtown streetwear boutique when he decided to try his hand at rapping and become Trinidad James. That was late 2011, and in October of 2012, Trinidad dropped his debut mixtape, Don't Be S.A.F.E., which featured the viral hit "All Gold Everything." In December of that year, as the "All Gold Everything" video passed the three-million-views mark, Def Jam announced their signing of the rapper and released the "All Gold Everything" remix with verses from T.I., Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz added to the track. The label gave the Don't Be S.A.F.E. mixtape an official release in early 2013. A second mixtape was released later that year. 10 PC Mild featured spots by Travi$ Scott, D4L, Danny Brown, Rich Homie Quan, Gucci Mane, and Childish Gambino.

James continued to drop mixtapes with the Gold Gang label, occupying 2015 with a trio of releases: The Wake Up, No One Is Safe, and Trips to Trinidad. He also appeared on a remix of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Cash Cash's "The Gun" with Dev and Chrish. In 2016, James returned focus to his own output, dropping the single "Just a Lil' Thick (She Juicy)" with Mystikal and Lil Dicky.

2 Chainz is the stage name of Atlanta rapper Tauheed Epps, once known as Tity Boi in the Atlanta-based Playaz Circle. Epps launched a successful solo career in 2010, and began issuing a parade of Top 40 hits while becoming the go-to artist for guest verses. His breakout year was 2012, when he landed on Kanye West's "Mercy" and Nicki Minaj's "Beez in the Trap" before dropping his official debut, Based on a T.R.U. Story, for Def Jam. With three platinum hits -- "No Lie" featuring Drake, "Birthday Song" featuring Kanye West, and "I'm Different" -- the album hit number one on the Billboard 200, and easily reached platinum status.

Early 2019 saw 2 Chainz team up with Ariana Grande for the single "Rule the World", which appeared on the full-length Rap or Go to the League, which arrived later that March.

Known for her soft, lo-fi folk sound, London's Bea Regner, aka Beabadoobee, first emerged online with her sweetly attenuated 2017 viral single "Coffee." Only 17 at the time, she signed with the Dirty Hit label, which issued her second EP, Patched Up, in 2018.

Born in London to Filipino parents, Regner first became interested in music around age seven, and grew up listening to a mix of OPM (Filipino traditional and modern original music compositions and '80s pop/rock. By her teens she had discovered indie rock and was listening to artists like Kimya Dawson, Karen O & Yeah Yeah Yeahs, (Sandy) Alex G, and Florist, as well as the Beatles and Chet Baker. In 2017, at age 17, she received her first guitar and quickly taught herself how to play by watching tutorial videos online. That same year, she recorded her song "Coffee" in a friend's bedroom, and uploaded it online. A mellow ditty inspired by her relationship with her then-boyfriend, the song went viral, with its video getting over 300,000 views, and gaining even more hits on streaming services. The labels took notice, and Bea issued her debut EP Lice on Columbia before signing with the independent Dirty Hit (home to the 1975, Pale Waves, and Wolf Alice). In 2018, she issued a second EP, Patched Up. Another EP, Loveworm, arrived in April 2019, followed several months later by the single "She Plays Bass."

Lil Tjay's first tracks showed up online at the very end of 2017. "Resume" was his first completely solo song and it went viral quickly, ultimately being streamed over 14 million times in a little over a year. He followed with multiple one-off tracks over the course of 2018, with many of them selling/streaming by the millions. Self-released tracks like "Brothers," "Goat," "None of Your Love," and "Leaked" all gained serious traction and quickly drew the attention of major labels hoping to sign the rapper. He inked a deal with Columbia, and the label released the five-song EP No Comparison at the tail end of 2018. A second EP, F.N, arrived in August 2019 and included the singles "Ruthless" featuring Jay Critch and "Laneswitch."

"Good Lovin'" is a song written by Rudy Clark and Arthur Resnick that was a #1 hit single for the Young Rascals in 1966.

The song was first recorded by Lemme B. Good (actually Canton, Ohio, R&B singer Limmie Snell) in March 1965 and written by Rudy Clark. The following month it was recorded with different lyrics by R&B artists The Olympics, produced by Jerry Ragavoy; this version reached #81 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart.

Jan. 29, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- Jimmy Eat World showed up to the NPR Music office all smiles and no guitars, goofing off with toy instruments behind the Tiny Desk and cracking jokes. They borrowed a couple acoustics, a miniature gong and tambourine emblazoned with Bob Boilen's face, which set the tone for a slightly silly, but altogether gracious performance.

For 27 years, Jimmy Eat World has been the rock band with a bleeding, beating heart. Both its music and message have evolved in kind, from brokenhearted ballads to anthems of self-empowerment and the lessons of age. Joined by touring multi-instrumentalist Robin Vining and percussionist Zach Lind, Jim Adkins opens the stripped-down set with "Love Never," a song about the hard work of sustaining love, which was originally released as a 7-inch in 2018. Adkins' and Vining's harmonies ring out brightly, and then Lind rings the gong.

"All The Way (Stay)" comes from the band's tenth album, Surviving. Many of these new songs reflect older Jimmy Eat World themes: "Your sense of self-worth coming from external validation is an empty pursuit," Jim Adkins tells the crowd. So as guitarist Tom Linton joins the band, they launch into "The Middle." Over time, this feel-good Bleed American single has remained a constant source of goodness in a sometimes bleak world. When the audience joins in for the last chorus, an uplifting catharsis streaked through our hearts as we all sang, "Everything, everything will be just fine / Everything, everything will be all right, all right."

"Pose" is a song by American rapper Yo Gotti featuring American rapper Lil Uzi Vert. Epic Records released it on August 23, 2019.

The release of "Pose" was confirmed in an Epic Records press release. Yo Gotti announced the song via Instagram hours before its release, along with a snippet and artwork.

"Pose" has heavy bass, with Gotti rapping about first-world problems which he faces because of his success and wealth. The song makes use of the sound of a camera shutter. Gotti describes a love-hate relationship through the lyrics, making use of metaphors about posing for pictures.

A singer of distinct, controlled passion, Sharon Van Etten carved out a loyal audience with her hushed, intense albums for the lauded indie Jagjaguwar in the 2010s. She signed with the label after releasing a series of albums on her own in the 2000s, but it was Tramp -- her 2012 debut for the label -- that brought her wider acclaim. Van Etten began to broaden her aural palette with 2014's Are We There, an evolution that reached full flower on Remind Me Tomorrow, the 2019 album that brought her to her widest audience yet.

Employing a kinetic blend of metalcore, dubstep, and industrial, Osaka, Japan's Crossfaith started out as a nu-metal cover band before transitioning to electronicore in the mid-2000s. Since debuting in 2009 with The Artificial Theory for the Dramatic Beauty, the band have become known for their technical prowess and fiery live performances. While progressive and punitive extreme metal has served as the group's foundation over the years, albums like 2013's Apocalyze and 2018's Ex-Machina introduced more streamlined sonic elements to the mix, and featured complex narratives built around dystopian futures..

2018's Ex-Machina was a conceptual affair, built around a near-future rebellion against an artificial intelligence-wielding authoritarian ruling class. It featured cameos from Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds and industrial hip-hoppers Ho99o9.

Colour Haze aus München sind seit vielen Jahren eine Institution der deutschen Psychedelic & Heavy Rock Szene - 2019 feiern sie gar ihr 25-jähriges Bühnenjubiläum.
Die Band versteht es, mit ihrer Musik Bilder zu malen und Klanglandschaften zu erschaffen - da schweben sanftmütige, leise Melodien durch den Raum, werden intensiver. Entspannte Rhythmen setzen ein, werden bestimmter, es entsteht ein packender Groove, der das Publikum hypnotisiert. Die Gitarre, eben noch verträumt und zärtlich gekost, wird zorniger, lauter, intensiver. Die Stücke entladen ihre Spannung in brodelnden, wuchtig brummenden Hardrock-Eruptionen, nur um dann wieder in sich selbst zusammenzufallen.
Anfänglich stark von Black Sabbath beeinflusst, finden heute bevorzugt warme, trancelastige Melodien und tief verzerrte Riffparts Verwendung - wie auch komplexe Songstrukturen, Jazz-Elemente und Jams. Liedmonumente von epischer Länge werden durch weltmusikalische Zutaten aufgebrochen, Stefan Kogleks Gesang ist zurückgenommen und wirkt oft eher als zusätzliches Melodieinstrument denn als erzählerische Kraft. Colour Haze geben Progressive-Rock das Progressive zurück. Sie sind in der langen Crossroads-Geschichte erst die fünfte Band, die bereits zum zweiten Mal eingeladen wurde, in der Reihe aufzutreten.

Colour Haze is a stoner/psychedelic rock group from Munich, Germany, consisting of singer and guitarist Stefan Koglek, drummer Manfred Merwald and bassist Philipp Rasthofer.

Formed in the mid-nineties, Colour Haze is one of the oldest German stoner outfits, and have since then become one of the flagships of the German stoner rock scene. Tours of the band have included headline spots at smaller national and international rock festivals, such as the U.S. festival Emissions from the Monolith in 2006 alongside Orange Goblin, Boris, and General Tso. Local media coverage have included a broadcast of a concert on national television, when Colour Haze appeared at Rockpalast in 2007.

Emerging from a sound heavily influenced by Kyuss on their first records, they moved away from a heavy to a more melodic sound, e.g. on their album All (2008), as remarked by Denmark's LowCut webzine.
