Known for her soft, lo-fi folk sound, London's Bea Regner, aka Beabadoobee, first emerged online with her sweetly attenuated 2017 viral single "Coffee." Only 17 at the time, she signed with the Dirty Hit label, which issued her second EP, Patched Up, in 2018.

Born in London to Filipino parents, Regner first became interested in music around age seven, and grew up listening to a mix of OPM (Filipino traditional and modern original music compositions and '80s pop/rock. By her teens she had discovered indie rock and was listening to artists like Kimya Dawson, Karen O & Yeah Yeah Yeahs, (Sandy) Alex G, and Florist, as well as the Beatles and Chet Baker. In 2017, at age 17, she received her first guitar and quickly taught herself how to play by watching tutorial videos online. That same year, she recorded her song "Coffee" in a friend's bedroom, and uploaded it online. A mellow ditty inspired by her relationship with her then-boyfriend, the song went viral, with its video getting over 300,000 views, and gaining even more hits on streaming services. The labels took notice, and Bea issued her debut EP Lice on Columbia before signing with the independent Dirty Hit (home to the 1975, Pale Waves, and Wolf Alice). In 2018, she issued a second EP, Patched Up. Another EP, Loveworm, arrived in April 2019, followed several months later by the single "She Plays Bass."

"Isobel" is a song recorded by Icelandic singer Björk for her second studio album, Post. Written by Sjón based on a story by Björk, the lyrics of "Isobel" tell the story of the title character, who is magically born in a forest and sends a message of instinct amongst the logic thinking of the people of the city. The story of Isobel has been explored in "Human Behaviour" and "Bachelorette", forming a trilogy. The track was released as the second single for the album as two different CD releases in August 1995. Featuring additional songwriting by Nellee Hooper and Marius de Vries, string arrangements by Eumir Deodato and production by Hooper and Björk, "Isobel" combines a lush orchestral sound with electronic breakbeats.

Most commentators were enticed by "Isobel", which they declared one of the highlights of the Post album. The single peaked at number eighteen on the Finnish Singles Chart, twenty-three on the UK Singles Charts and forty-seven on the New Zealand Singles Chart. The song was included in the compilation album Greatest Hits (2002), whose tracks were selected by fans through a survey.

The accompanying music video for "Isobel" was directed by frequent collaborator Michel Gondry and represents the story the lyrics convey. The surreal video resembles an early film and garnered acclaim from critics, although it received no support from MTV. Björk has performed "Isobel" on various television shows and in six of her tours, the most recent being the Utopia Tour.

The rapper's success continued with Drip Harder, a collaborative mixtape with Gunna that was released the following October and reached number four on the Billboard 200. 2019 saw Lil Baby starring in the film How High 2 and releasing a handful of singles including the Future collaboration "Out the Mud."

Gatecrashing is the second and final studio album by British group Living in a Box. It was released on 26 June 1989 and features the UK top ten hits "Blow the House Down" and "Room in Your Heart".

The British pop-funk group Living in a Box boomed onto MTV in 1987 with a song named after themselves. Featuring Richard Darbyshire (vocals/guitar), Marcus Vere (synthesizers), and Anthony Critchlow (drums), the band had only one Top 40 single in the U.S., "Living in a Box"; in the U.K., however, the group was far more successful. Living in a Box formed in Sheffield, England in 1985. Darbyshire originally sang for the band the Zu Zu Sharks in the early '80s. Given the choice between a solo career or fronting Living in a Box for Chrysalis Records, Darbyshire selected the latter. Living in a Box received a five-year contract from the label; in 1987, the group released their self-titled debut LP. In 1989, the band recorded a second album, Gatecrashing; the songs "Blow the House Down" and "Room in Your Heart" were Top Ten hits in Britain. But changes at Chrysalis caused artistic differences during the production of their third LP. Living in a Box broke up in 1990 before their third album was completed. In 1994, Darbyshire released his solo debut, How Many Angels, an LP that included several tracks, such as "Better to Have Lost," that were intended for Living in a Box's third album.

The Rolling Stones No. 2 is the second UK studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released in 1965 following the success of their 1964 debut album The Rolling Stones. It followed its predecessor's tendency to largely feature R&B covers. However, it does contain three compositions from the still-developing Mick Jagger/Keith Richards songwriting team.

Offering up an emotional and propulsive mix of summery indie pop and meticulously crafted, commercial modern rock, Brooklyn-based American Authors fall somewhere between the arena-sized folk-rock of Mumford & Sons and the urban, heartfelt grandeur of Fun. The group broke big in 2013 with the release of the single "Best Day of My Life," which received significant airplay after appearing in a slew of high-profile commercials and film trailers.

Formed in Boston under the moniker Blue Pages, the founding line-up included Zac Barnett (vocals), James Adam Shelley (guitar/banjo), Dave Rublin (bass), and Matt Sanchez (drums). Although they met while attending the Berklee College of Music, the quartet eventually dropped out and relocated to Brooklyn. American Authors inked a deal with Island Records in 2012 and released the singles "Believer" and their eventual breakthrough hit "Best Day of My Life," as well as their eponymous debut EP the following year. Oh, What a Life, the band's first long-player, followed in early 2014. By April, "Best Day of My Life" peaked on the Billboard 200 at number 14. The spirited single "Go Big or Go Home" dropped in May 2015 in anticipation of the group's sophomore studio outing. Four more singles were released before What We Live For arrived in July 2016. The next year, American Authors issued the single "I Wanna Go Out." After announcing the impending arrival of their third LP, Seasons, the band issued a trio of singles throughout 2018 including "Deep Water" and "Say Amen," the latter featuring Canadian singer/songwriter Billy Raffoul. Seasons was released in February 2019 and also included the single "Neighborhood" featuring Bear Rinehart of

Description : Mount Eerie With Julie Doiron: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Feb. 12, 2020 | Lars Gotrich -- Phil Elverum's songs come full circle, swooping down like vultures and floating up like ashes from flames. Throughout his work in Mount Eerie and The Microphones, idealism comes up against realism, existence entangles with impermanence and love discovers new forms. So when he sings, "Let's get out the romance," in close harmony with Julie Doiron at the Tiny Desk, there's a history going back nearly two decades to an isolated cabin in Norway where he first wrote the phrase.

Lost Wisdom Pt. 2, released last year, is more than a continuation of a beloved collaboration; the sparsely decorated, deeply felt album meditates on a heart still breaking and mutating, but also gently reckons with a younger version of himself. That refrain on "Belief" — performed here with only an electric guitar and a nylon-string acoustic bought in Stockholm during that Scandinavian trip many years ago — not only references the cathartic singalong but also "Flaming Home" from 2008's Lost Wisdom.

Elverum remembers himself as a young man who begged "the sky for some calamity to challenge my foundation." We then become the Greek chorus, witness to the unfolding tragedy: first, the death of his wife and mother to their child, the musician and illustrator Geneviève Castrée, in 2016; then the marriage to actor Michelle Williams in 2018 and their divorce less than a year later. "'The world always goes on,'" Doiron sings in answer, quoting a Joanne Kyger poem, "'Breaking us with its changes / Until our form, exhausted, runs true.'"

When "Belief" suddenly ends, seemingly in the middle of a thought, Elverum's eyes search the room. The audience responds with applause, but a version of this dynamic plays out everywhere he's performed for the last three years — long silences broken up by tentative claps, nervous laughs struck by grief and absurdity. The albums A Crow Looked At Me, Now Only and Lost Wisdom Pt. 2 engage Elverum and his fans in open wounds he chooses to share — death, love and the loss of love — and that we choose to listen to. Written with diaristic detail, but in awe of an endless horizon, Elverum's existentialism is exhausted, but seeking.

He smiles, says thanks, sighs and then sings once again.

The members of the Glasgow quartet Spinning Coin had all been playing in bands, writing songs, and making the scene before they joined together to make fiercely ramshackle indie pop that reminded their future label head, Stephen Pastel, of a "feeling (he) had at the end of the Boy Hairdressers and the beginning of Teenage Fanclub." They formed in late 2014 ostensibly to back guitarist Sean Armstrong on a batch of his songs, but soon took the name Spinning Coin and became something more. Made up of Armstrong (guitar and vocals), Jack Mellin (guitar and vocals), Cal Donnelly (bass), and Chris White (drums), Spinning Coin began playing shows around their hometown and caught the ear of Fuzzkill Records, which released the band's self-titled five-song debut cassette in October of 2015. This recording and their live shows brought them to the attention of Geographic Music, a label run by the Pastels and sponsored by Domino. They home-recorded their first single, "Albany"/"Sides," released it in April of 2016, and soon got to work on a full-length album. Working with producer Stu Evans in Glasgow and Edwyn Collins at his studio in Helmsdale, the band added backing vocals from the Pastels' Katrina Mitchell and Tuff Love's Rachel Taylor. The album, Permo, was issued in November of 2017 by Geographic. Around that time, Spinning Coin added Taylor to the lineup as their keyboardist.

Garage punk trio Radkey were formed in St. Joseph, Missouri in 2010 by brothers Dee, Isaiah, and Solomon Radke, who grew up listening to their music-mad father's vast collection of punk, rock, and metal records. The band was formed after Isaiah lent Dee his bass guitar so he could play in a local covers band. Seeing his brother on-stage, Isaiah decided that he wanted in on the action; youngest brother Solomon also expressed an interest and took up drumming, and Radkey were born. After rehearsing in their bedroom for months, they got early breaks when, for their very first gig, they managed to bag a support slot with '90s funk-metal pioneers Fishbone, and got the opportunity to record their first EP, Cat & Mouse, in New York at Wreckroom, the studio owned by Entourage star Adrian Grenier. Produced by the Giraffes' Damien Paris, the EP, released in 2012, generated significant Internet buzz, and the band went on to play a number of high-profile shows, including the Afro-Punk Festival, South by Southwest, and Chicago's Riot Fest. While initially attracting attention for the novelty of their being black, once they got up on-stage and started to rock, any trivial considerations were forgotten; Dee's vocal similarity to a young Glenn Danzig and Isaiah's remarkable resemblance to Phil Lynott probably didn't hurt either. To promote their second EP, 2013's Devil Fruit, they crossed the pond to play at the U.K.'s Download Festival and appeared on the BBC's Later with Jools Holland. By this point, they were getting so popular that their father quit his job as a loss-prevention officer at Wal-Mart to become their full-time manager. Recorded in San Francisco, California and Sheffield, England with producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, the Fall, Jarvis Cocker), the band's much-anticipated debut album, Dark Black Makeup, arrived in the summer of 2015. The following year, Another Century Records reissued it with bonus tracks under the title Delicious Rock Noise.

Based in Philadelphia but also spending time in New York, Man Man formed with members Honus Honus (vocals/synthesizer), Tiberius Lyn (drums), Clint Killingsworth (bass), and Steven Dufala (guitar/trumpet). Man Man made their album debut in 2004 with The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face, and Six Demon Bag followed in 2006 with Lyn replaced by new drummer and songwriter Pow Wow (Chris Powell). As they established themselves over the next few years, the eclectic quartet welcomed Brown Sugar (Adam Schatz) and Shono Murphy (Bryan Murphy) to their line-up after the exit of Killingsworth and Dufal, and played shows with artists such as Cat Power, Adam Green, Mirah, U.S. Maple, Aereogramme, Need New Body, and Bardo Pond. Over the course of 2008’s Rabbit Habits, 2011’s Life Fantastic, and 2013's Oni Oni Pond, the band segued into a more standard pop approach without compromising its bizarre musical style.

The former frontwoman of German electro-punk outfit Deine Jugend, Laura Carbone's solo career combines '90s influences like the Riot Grrrl movement, the Breeders, and PJ Harvey with the '80s drama of acts such as Chris Isaak and Sisters of Mercy. After Deine Jugend ended, Carbone continued working on music with former bandmember Tim Bonassis (also of the metal groups Pyogenesis and Liquido). Her debut EP, Stigmatized, arrived in 2013. To fund her first full-length album, Carbone partnered with PledgeMusic; Sirens was released in Europe at the end of 2015 and in the U.S. early the following year.
