With her poignant, thought-provoking electronic pop, French singer, songwriter, choreographer, and dancer Christine and the Queens blurs the lines between theater, singing, and dance as skillfully as she plays with the concepts of gender, sexuality, and identity. Influenced by the theatrical pop of David Bowie and Laurie Anderson, as well as the choreography of Michael Jackson, she often combines her atmospheric music with computer-based multimedia presentations. Christine's 2014 debut album, Chaleur Humaine, which explored her turbulent adolescence as a queer woman, announced her as a distinctively vulnerable talent on the strength of the singles "St. Claude" and "Tilted." She delved even deeper on 2018's Chris, an examination of gender stereotypes set to '80s R&B sounds that underscored her commitment to making listeners think, feel, and move.

Born Héloïse Létissier in Nantes, France in 1988 to a teacher and English professor, Christine grew up in an artistic, literary household and took piano and dance lessons at an early age. Later, Létissier studied theater at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) and moved to Paris in 2010. Following a bad breakup, Létissier created the persona of Christine and embarked on a music career, taking the Christine and the Queens moniker as an homage to the drag queens who danced with her while she performed. She released her debut EP, Miséricorde, in 2011, and followed it with 2012's Mac Abbey. That year, Christine and the Queens' dynamic stage shows won the Best Discovered Act award at Le Printemps de Bourges festival and the Premières Francos award at another festival, Les Francofolies de La Rochelle. With 2013's Nuit 17 à 52 EP, Létissier made her debut on the French albums chart SNEP.

In 2014, Létissier delivered Christine and the Queens' debut full-length album, Chaleur Humaine, a set of songs inspired by her teenage years that featured the single "Saint Claude." Early in 2015, Létissier won the Victoires de la Musique for 2014's Best Female Artist; later that year, Chaleur Humaine was reissued on Atlantic in the United States as Christine and the Queens, and featured the English-language single "Tilted." The album was also reissued as a deluxe edition in the U.K. in 2016, a year that saw Christine and the Queens cover Beyoncé's "Sorry" and the BBC choose Létissier as one of its 100 Women of the Year. Létissier wrote and produced the project's second album, Chris, a set of songs that incorporated tougher, '80s funk and R&B influences and lyrics that questioned traditional gender roles. Featuring the Dâm-Funk collaboration "Girlfriend," the album arrived in French and English versions in September 2018.

Formed in Nashville but carving a space in the field of bright, synth-spiked indie pop more often associated with L.A. and N.Y.C., COIN were started by students at Belmont University in 2012. They sold out a show for the first time in the summer of 2013, and the quartet of Chase Lawrence (vocals/synths), Joe Memmel (guitar/vocals), Zachary Dyke (bass), and Ryan Winnen (drums) signed with Columbia that fall. Working with producer and co-writer Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Cage the Elephant), they released their self-titled debut in 2015. Behind the single "Run," it landed on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. The band came back a year later with the kissing anthem "Talk Too Much." It was the first single from their second album, How Will You Know If You Never Try, which was released in the spring of 2017. The non-album single "How Will You Know if You Never Try," appeared the following year.

A shared love of heavy metal and, more specifically, metalcore, ensured that the members of While She Sleeps continued the bond they formed at school in Sheffield, England long after their final exams were over. In 2006, singer Jordan "The Face" Widdowson, drummer Adam Savage, bassist Aaran McKenzie, and guitarists Mat Welsh and Sean Long decided to get together after playing in various other groups in the area. The bandmembers played shows regularly for the next three years, and Widdowson eventually bowed out, leaving the door open for Lawrence Taylor to step in on vocals.

Released by Small Town Records in the summer of 2010, the eight-track mini-album, The North Stands for Nothing, was recorded in a converted barn and mixed by Welsh. Having been well-received by the rock press, Good Fight Music picked up The North Stands for Nothing for distribution in North America, where it was released in the summer of 2011 with the addition of the single "Be(lie)ve." Recorded in the early months of that year, "Be(lie)ve" came out during a busy period for While She Sleeps. As well as recording a live session for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios, they were invited to open for fellow Sheffield-based metalcore outfit Bring Me the Horizon at the O2 Academy in their hometown, although they had to pull out of a planned American tour with Bring Me the Horizon in the following months.

Not letting this setback halt their progress, and following extensive touring of their own, While She Sleeps went into the studio with producer Carl Bown in November 2011 and recorded their debut full-length, This Is the Six. The album, released in 2012, was a huge step up sonically for the band, displayed best on the anthemic title track and lead single. In the months leading up to the release of This Is the Six, While She Sleeps played the Download Festival and won the Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer. Brainwashed, the band's much-anticipated sophomore outing, dropped in 2015 and featured the singles "New World Torture," "Four Walls," "Trophies of Violence," and "Our Legacy." September 2016 saw the release of "Civil Isolation," the first single from their crowd-funded third studio long-player, You Are We, which arrived in May of the following year.

In January 2020, the group announced their third full-length album Race Car Blues, to be released on 28 February 2019. They released the album’s lead single “Race Car Blues” on that same day.

On 25 January 2020, the band were announced as having placed at No. 57 in the triple j Hottest 100 for 2019, with the single “Jellyfish”.

This was Slowly Slowly’s first ever entry in the annual countdown.

Sheppard are a six-piece indie pop group from Brisbane, Australia. Formed as a duo in 2009 by siblings Amy (vocals) and George Sheppard (vocals/keys), the group slowly expanded to include their sister Emma Sheppard on bass, along with friends Jay Bovino (vocals, guitar), Michael Butler (guitar), and Dean Gordon (drums). Featuring a buoyant mix of strong harmonies and catchy, uptempo pop, the band released its self-titled debut EP in August 2012 and quickly expanded its touring horizons, playing festivals in America, South Africa, and the U.K.

By the following summer, their EP had peaked at number 18 on the Australian charts and they had been nominated for an ARIA music award. In February 2014 they issued the single "Geronimo," which shot to number one at home while also gaining traction in Europe and beyond. Prior to recording their first album, Sheppard signed with Decca Records internationally, yet remained independent in their home country. Released in July 2014, their debut LP, Bombs Away!, was a major success, reaching number two on the Australian charts before getting a worldwide release a few months later. The single "Geronimo" charted across Western Europe as well as in the U.S. and Canada, and hit number one in Australia.

The first single off their sophomore album, "We Belong," appeared in late 2016 and was followed the next spring by "Keep Me Crazy," which returned them to the Australian Top 40. Finally, in 2018, they delivered the full-length Watching the Sky, which also featured the Australian chart-topping, gold-certified single "Coming Home."

Coming on with a staccato delivery like 2 Chainz, but with material that is much more hardcore, Detroit MC IceWear Vezzo was a member of the Green Guyz crew who went solo in 2012. Born Chivez Smith in Detroit, some of Vezzo's close relatives and siblings lived in Minnesota where they formed the hip-hop group the Green Guyz. Vezzo ran his own Detroit-based version of the Green Guyz with the blessing of the original crew, but after a few regional hits, the MC decided to go it alone. In 2012 he dropped his debut mixtape The Clarity, while 2013 saw him release Clarity 2: Can't Stop the Count, featuring the breakout single "Money Phone." The track also appeared on his 2013 album The City Is Mine, and The Clarity 3 landed in 2014 and featured Vezzo's fellow Green Guyz cohort Webbo among its guests. He also issued the Solitaires album that year on his birthday, which happened to be Halloween, while the release of The Clarity 4 kicked off 2015, a year that saw him hit with the single "Moon Walken." The album Moon Walken followed in 2016. 2017 saw the release of the Price Goin' Up mixtape, which featured collaborations with Philthy Rich, Mozzy, BandGang Lonie Bands, Rocaine, and more.

Guitarist Tobias Buck formed Neaera in 2003, initially as a side project away from his usual death metal band, Münster, Germany's Malzan. Vocalist Benny Hilleke and drummer Sebastian Heldt came on board first, then former Malzan guitarist Benjamin Donath was added, but on bass. The band's death metal meets power metal sound began to form and numerous gigs were played under the name the Ninth Gate before it was decided a second guitarist and a name change were in order. Meanwhile, Malzan had fallen apart, so Malzan member Stefan Keller was recruited by Buck to play the second guitar in the Ninth Gate, rather than bass as he had in his former group. The Metal Blade label came calling in 2004 and pushed the issue of a name change. The bandmembers decided on Neaera, and in 2005 they made their debut with The Rising Tide of Oblivion. Let the Tempest Come appeared a year later, with Armamentarium following in 2007.

Description : Formerly known as Lil Herb, G Herbo relates his experiences in coarsely grained, urgent, and often pained form as one of Chicago's noted drill artists. He represents his city's South Shore neighborhood -- more specifically, an area nicknamed Terror Town. He debuted with Welcome to Fazoland in 2014, later rising on the Billboard 200 with 2017's Humble Beast and 2018's Swervo.

Active since the early 2010s, the rapper, born Herbert Wright III, appeared on a pair of tracks off Free Crack, a release by close associate Lil Bibby, in 2013. The next year, Common, Young Chop, and Earl Sweatshirt sought him out for verses, and he also issued his first two mixtapes: Welcome to Fazoland and Pistol P Project. Wright subsequently signed with Cinematic Music Group and made his debut there in 2015 with a mixtape, Ballin Like I'm Kobe, titled in tribute to a friend who had been murdered two years prior. The following year, Wright appeared on the Lil Yachty track "Up Next 3." In 2017, he delivered his full-length studio album, Humble Beast, featuring the singles "Red Snow," "I Like," and "Everything." The album peaked just outside the Top 20 of the Billboard 200. A deluxe edition of the album arrived a year later, featuring fellow Chicago emcee Chance the Rapper on "Everything (Remix)." In 2018, he joined with Atlanta trap producer Southside for the collaborative effort Swervo (Epic Records), which featured appearances by Young Thug, 21 Savage, Chief Keef, and others, debuting at number 15 on the Billboard 200 upon release. 2019 was bookended by sophomore LP Still Swervin, which debuted just outside the Top 40 that February, and December's Sessions.

The Atlanta MC was born Rayshawn Bennett and began rapping when he was 16. A year later, he was recruited by Johnny Cinco for two appearances on 2014's John Popi mixtape. He joined TIG that same year, and by the end of 2014 the label had released his debut mixtape, Wish Me Well. Wish Me Well, Vol. 2 followed in 2016 and featured guest appearances from Migos, Plies, and Johnny Cinco. In April 2017, Lucci released his debut EP, Long Live Nut, which made a strong showing at number 27 on the Billboard 200. He kicked off 2018 with the release of the Meek Mill-featuring "Street Kings." Second EP Freda's Son appeared in February, and full-length Ray Ray from Summerhill dropped the following month, subsequently becoming the rapper's first Top 20-charting release. Later that December, Lucci issued the single "Double Up," which featured Rich the Kid. In 2019, Lucci released the Gangsta Grillz mixtape 650Luc, which included a Trey Songz-assisted single, "All Night Long." Before the end of the year, he returned with the HIStory mixtape. The project included multiple contributions from vocalist Bigga Rankin as well as an appearance from City Girls.

First conceived in 2004, Los Angeles, California's Intronaut started out as a friendly but loose side project concocted between Anubis Rising vocalist/guitarist Sacha Dunable and then-Uphill Battle drummer Danny Walker (also ex-Exhumed). When their songwriting started to bear impressive fruit -- based upon the aggressive and progressive new sound made popular by Mastodon and, to a lesser degree, their own groups -- the duo called in fellow Exhumed guitarist/vocalist Leon del Muerte and bassist Joe Lester to help them cut the Null EP, released in early 2006 by Goodfellow Records. Barely six months later, Intronaut returned with that EP's logically named follow-up and debut studio long-player, Void. Del Muerte left the group the following year to focus on Murder Construct, and was replaced by Dave Timnick, who would make his studio debut with the group on its 2008 Century Media-issued sophomore full-length, Prehistoricisms. Valley of Smoke arrived in 2010, followed in 2013 by Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words with Tones). The band issued its fourth studio LP, The Direction of Last Things, in 2015.

Actress and singer Keke Palmer is a multi-talented performer who first came to fame as a child actor starring in the acclaimed 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee. Only 13 at the time, Palmer quickly built upon her success, signing a recording contract and issuing her 2007 debut album, the pop- and R&B-steeped So Uncool. She has continued to broaden her career, acting in films and TV shows, including the Fox series Scream Queens, and authoring the inspirational nonfiction book I Don't Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice. Along with acting, music remains a focus for Palmer, and in 2016 she issued the Lauren EP.

While continuing to earn acting gigs, including voice work for the animated Winx Club franchise and a role on the 2015 Fox TV series Scream Queens, she headed back to the recording studio. Featuring collaborators including producer Sean Garrett and rapper Dreezy, the EP Lauren -- her given name -- was released by Island Records in 2016. It returned her to the R&B and Heatseekers album charts. In January 2017, Palmer released a book of inspirational nonfiction titled I Don't Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice. The following year, she returned to music with the stand-alone single "Better to Have Loved." A second single, "Twerk N Flirt," arrived in August 2019.

A Swedish melodic hard rock and metal outfit with a knack for pairing classic NWOBHM sonic architecture with European-style power and progressive metal bombast, Stockholm's Dynazty emerged in 2007 and quickly became notable players in the crowded Scandinavian heavy music scene. Established by guitarists Love Magnusson and John Berg, the group eventually expanded into a five-piece with the additions of drummer Georg Härnsten Egg, bassist Joel Fox Apelgren, and powerhouse vocalist Nils Molin. 2009's Bring the Thunder served as the band's introduction, but it was 2011's Knock You Down and 2012's Sultans of Sin that caught the heavy metal community's attention, with the latter LP arriving in the midst of the group's almost-successful run on that year's Melodifestivalen, Sweden's annual Eurovision qualifying music competition. The group inked a deal with Spinefarm Records for their fourth studio effort, 2013's Renatus, which saw Dynazty leaning harder into the power side of the metal spectrum and featured a re-tooled lineup (Berg was replaced by new six-stringer Mikael Lavér and Jonathan Olsson took over bass duties from Apelgren). Three years later the band returned with the aptly named Titanic Mass, which added symphonic elements to the mix. The band relocated to AFM Records for album number six, 2018's hard-charging Firesign.

With the breakup of the neo-prog group Cathedral, keyboardist Todd Braverman formed Ad Infinitum with the dream of recreating the sound of an early-1970s progressive rock band along the likes of Yes and Genesis. Advertising in the Village Voice, Braverman met guitarist, songwriter, and fellow prog rock fanatic Craig Wall. While working various day jobs, the duo added keyboardist/vocalist Ilan Goldman. Finally, through another ad, Mike "Goose" Seguso joined the band as an additional vocalist. Working together for four years, Ad Infinitum recorded on instruments long abandoned by most rock musicians but essential to the prog rock sound, such as Hammond organs, Mellotrons, and Moog synthesizers. The resulting album was, as promised, a letter-perfect re-creation of the heyday of progressive rock with epic tracks, complex instrumentation, and time shifts.

Inspired by the burgeoning American thrash metal revival of the mid ‘2000s, Denver, Colorado's Havok assembled in 2004, and proceeded to ply their backward-looking trade via a series of self-financed releases: a 2005 demo, a 2006 single, and a 2007 EP, curiously named Pwn 'em All. These efforts duly got them signed to Candlelight Records, which released Havok's debut album, Burn, in 2009 and then sent them off to tour with bands like Exodus, Anthrax, Destruction, Primal Fear, and Hammerfall. All of this roadwork only tightened up the band's impressive chops, and prepared members David Sanchez (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Reece Scruggs (lead guitar), Jessie de los Santos (bass, backing vocals), and Pete Webber (drums), for the recording of their sophomore album, Time Is Up (produced by thrash stalwart James Murphy: Death, Obituary, Disincarnate, Testament, etc.), which was released in early 2011. Michael Leon replaced de los Santos on bass for 2013's Unnatural Selection, which earned positive reviews and performed well on the charts. The band toured steadily during the rest of the year, and switched labels, from Candlelight to Century Media. Also, Leon left the band after three years, to be replaced by Nick Schendzielos of Cephalic Carnage. Havok's fourth album, Conformicide, was released in March of 2017.

German trio Sono is comprised of producer Florian Sikorski, songwriter/producer Martin Weiland, and singer Lennart A. Salomon. Florian Sikorski (born 1975) became involved in electronic music as a sound programmer in a recording studio after attending Hamburg's Conservatory of Music. He began DJing in 1993. Two years later, sound engineer and DJ/producer Martin Weiland (born 1975) joined him. With the addition of Lennart A. Salomon, who grew up in the U.K. mostly influenced by contemporary jazz and funk, the project was completed.

Global Hits 2002Sono debuted in 2001 with the release of "Keep Control." The chart-topping single was later featured on the compilation Global Hits 2002 by Universal Records.
