Break Up the Concrete is the ninth studio album by rock group The Pretenders. It is their first studio album since Loose Screw in 2002. Several "exclusive" editions of the disc exist (see track listing below); each appends a new countrified version of a vintage Pretenders song, in keeping with the general sound of the album. The title song "Break Up the Concrete" was used in the opening scene of an episode of House M.D. ("5 to 9", season 6, episode 14).

The first edition of Break Up the Concrete also includes a small sheet of "handmade seed paper", which can be planted, and if cared for, promise to sprout within a few weeks. The cover art parodies the sleeve of fellow power-popper Joe Jackson's 1979 debut Look Sharp!

Break Up the Concrete was the first Pretenders album since 1994's Last of the Independents not to feature Martin Chambers on drums. In an interview, Chrissie Hynde said that she was looking for a different style, one she didn't believe Chambers was capable of playing to her satisfaction. Session drummer Jim Keltner took his place in the studio, although Chambers would return for the tour in support of the album.

There were conflicting reports about Chambers' temporary ouster. Hynde claims that Keltner was actually recommended by Chambers and that he was fully aware of his replacement. Chambers, however, claimed in an interview that Hynde hadn't told him about being replaced by Keltner; in fact, he was unaware that an album was even being made until after the sessions were well underway. In a 2016 interview, Chambers said that he gave Hynde his blessing to record the album without him, citing his reluctance to record and Hynde's reluctance to compromise on songwriting and production.

Birmingham duo Lotto Boyzz (aka Last of the Trill Ones, aka Ash X Lucas) cut their teeth making grime tracks before transcending the genre and pursuing their own style, Afro-bashment. Ash and Lucas met at a youth club in 2011, where they spontaneously decided to collaborate on a grime track. Their instant creative chemistry persuaded them to join forces, and they honed their craft over the following years until breaking through in 2016 with the singles "Hitlist" and "Bad Gyal." The duo garnered more attention in 2017 with the release of "No Don," which racked up millions of streams online.

His Billboard 200-charting full-length projects, including 2.23 (2018) and Church on Sunday (2019), alternate between hard tracks for the streets and comparatively lighter jams for parties.

Singer and songwriter Allen Stone describes himself as "a hippie with soul," and his music reflects both sides of this formula. His vocals and melodic style show the clear influence of classic soul and R&B of the '60s and '70s, while his lyrics reveal an idealism and passion that recall the folk-inspired singer/songwriters of the same era. It's a combination that helped his independently produced debut album, 2011's Allen Stone, crack the Top 40 of Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He further honed his style, adopting a mix of contemporary and '90s R&B influences on 2015's Radius.

The artist-friendly ATO Records label signed Stone in 2012 and reissued his eponymous album in the summer of that year. He then signed to the Capitol label and worked extensively with fellow singer and songwriter Tingsek. The result, Radius, featuring the single "Perfect World," was released in May 2015. The album peaked at number 80 on the Billboard 200 Chart. A year later, Stone delivered a deluxe version of the album featuring seven additional tracks. In 2018, he released the single "Brown Eyed Lover" and appeared on American Idol singing a duet version of his original song "Unaware" with contestant Dennis Lorenzo. "Brown Eyed Lover" also served as the lead-off track to his fourth full-length album, 2019's Building Balance. Co-produced with Jamie Lidell, the album found Stone embracing a mix of '70s soul and '90s New Jack Swing-influenced sounds.

American rock quintet 311 fuses reggae, hip-hop, funk, and metal in a rhythmic hybrid blend that carried them from the rap-rock boom of the '90s and into the 2000s as veteran mainstays with a fiercely devoted fan base. Following their breakthrough efforts 311 (1995) and Transistor (1997) -- which yielded hit singles "Down," "All Mixed Up," and "Beautiful Disaster" -- the quintet issued a string of Top 10 albums over the next few decades, including 2009 chart peak Uplifter, and found mainstream radio success with crossover hits "Amber" and a cover of the Cure's "Love Song." Into the 2010s, 311 stuck to their tried-and-true formula, serving their diehard following reliable output that included 2014's U.S. Alternative chart-topper Stereolithic.

Both as a solo artist and as one-half of She & Him, M. Ward became one of the defining voices of the American indie landscape in the 2000s, earning fans and critical acclaim for his distinctive brand of breezy West Coast Americana which pulled from folk, country, blues, pop, and experimental indie rock elements. A mainstay of Merge Records' roster, Ward established himself with warm, analog-minded releases like 2003's Transfiguration of Vincent and 2006's Post-War before joining forces with singer/actress Zooey Deschanel to form the highly successful indie pop duo She & Him in 2008. Over the following decade, Ward split his time between projects, releasing a 2009 album with indie supergroup Monsters of Folk, several high-profile albums with Deschanel including She & Him's Columbia-issued 2014 set Classics, and critically acclaimed solo releases like 2009's Hold Time, 2012's A Wasteland Companion, and 2018's biting music industry commentary, What a Wonderful Industry.

Ward's ninth album, What a Wonderful Industry, offered a cynical, but hard-won take on the perils and often shady nature of the music industry.

Cousins Husky Gawenda and Gideon Preiss grew up in Australia and developed a love of music, writing songs and listening to records together throughout their teenage years. In 2008, the two started a band, enlisting Melbourne scenesters Evan Tweedie on bass and vocals and Luke Vollins on drums, augmenting Preiss' keyboard and vocal duties and Gawenda's vocals and guitars. Taking the name Husky, the band was born. The group drew on Preiss and Gawenda's shared love of literate classic rock staples when developing its sound, melding artful songwriting inspired by the likes of Leonard Cohen and the Doors with Gawenda's poetic lyrics. The bandmembers worked tirelessly on songwriting and live performance, eventually setting up a makeshift home studio to record the basic tracks for their debut album. After working for months on the basic tracks, Husky handed over their raw materials to producer Noah Georgeson (famed for his work with artists like the Strokes and Joanna Newsom) to handle the final mixing process. The end result was their hauntingly folky debut album, Forever So, released in late 2011 on Liberation Music.

In 2011 the group also won the Pushover talent competition hosted by Australian radio institution Triple J. This opened many doors for Husky, and the band quickly gained new fans as well as landing support slots for established artists such as Gotye, Devendra Banhart, and Noah and the Whale. Husky began negotiating a deal with U.S. indie mainstay Sub Pop, which planned a global re-release of Forever So for 2012. Husky was the first Australian band to be signed to Sub Pop. Their 2014 follow-up album, Rucker's Hill, was also released through Liberation Music down under and Sub Pop in the U.S. In June 2017 Husky dropped their third LP, Punchbuzz. The band set out on an Australian tour in support, though several dates had to be postponed when Gawenda was diagnosed with glandular fever.

Milwaukee-born, Atlanta-raised rapper K Camp started performing in high school as part of a group called HBC. The group split, in part due to lack of ambition, but K Camp took his talent a little more seriously -- albeit without any plan of making a career out of it. He continued to perform and record on his own and, in 2009, released the party anthem "All Night," which gained some popularity in Atlanta. After enduring some business mishaps, including an alleged lack of recognition for his role in the making of Myko Montana's "Do It," K Camp continued to build his reputation through underground releases such as Fan4life, Show Money, and In Due Time. The last of the three featured "Money Baby," one of the best showcases for his laconic, laid-back flow to that point. It was also his first single to chart -- a number 19 hit on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks. 2 Chainz collaboration "Cut Her Off," the lead single from the Interscope-released EP In Due Time, reached number six and went platinum. Only Way Is Up, K Camp's debut album, followed in 2015 with appearances from T.I., Bun B, and Jeremih, among others. In 2016, K Camp dropped a single with 2 Chainz, "5 Minutes," as well as a mixtape, RARE. Two more mixtapes followed in 2017, K.I.S.S. 4 and SlumLords 2, as well as a single, "Good Problem." Another standalone single, "Switch," arrived in early 2019.

"Kiss You All Over" is a 1978 song performed by the group Exile, written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. It was included on the band's album Mixed Emotions, and featured lead vocalist Jimmy Stokley and guitarist J.P. Pennington on vocals.

On the American Top 40 broadcast of May 26, 1979, Casey Kasem reported that Chapman stated his source of inspiration for "Kiss You All Over" was "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" by Barry White.

The song was a number one single in the United States, but proved to be Exile's only big hit in the pop rock market (they would later have great success on the country music charts). It held the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks (starting September 30), and Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song for 1978. The song also reached number-one in at least three other nations.

In the United Kingdom, the song was released on Mickie Most's RAK Records, and peaked at number 6 in the UK Singles Chart. In this song, a string synthesizer is used. In 2010, Billboard ranked the song ninth on its list of "The 50 Sexiest Songs Of All Time".

Lead vocalist on the song Stokley was ousted from the band in 1979, his health declining thereafter until he died at the age of 41 in 1985. The band moved into country music following the synth-pop success of "Kiss You All Over" and the 1979 follow-up hit "You Thrill Me" (reaching #40 (UK No. 67)) and "How Could This Go Wrong", #88 on the charts. "Take Me Down" peaked at #3 on the Euro Hit 40 in the mid-1980s.

Formed by teenage best friends, Girlpool evolved dramatically in a relatively short time frame. The band grew from a sparse drummerless duo on their earliest albums into something resembling a more traditional indie rock act on subsequent records like 2019's What Chaos Is Imaginary, borrowing angst from '90s alternative guitar heroes and lush arrangements and bright harmonies from classic radio pop.

Girlpool was formed by friends Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker in 2013 when the two were still teenagers living in Los Angeles. Building a spare sound from guitar, bass, and unison vocals, the duo worked in raw, sometimes playful territory on a self-released eponymous debut EP they released just weeks after forming. Tucker and Tividad were approached by British indie Wichita Recordings, who set up a U.K. tour and re-released their debut in November 2014. Late that year, the duo relocated to Philadelphia and recorded with Kyle Gilbride of Swearin'; the results were 2015's full-length debut, Before the World Was Big. Following the success of their debut, plans to work with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy on the follow-up were mounted, but scheduling issues meant the duo ended up working on the record themselves in the end. The near collaboration signaled a slight departure from the minimal instrumentation of their first record, as Tucker and Tividad decided to develop their sound with additional instrumentation on their sophomore effort. Despite the additional drums on Powerplant, the pair stayed true to their core sound, and the record was released in 2017. In 2018, the band collaborated with Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion) on the single "Picturesong." In early 2019, third album What Chaos Is Imaginary arrived, revealing even more of an evolution of the group's sound which included the addition of synths, drum machines, and string arrangements.

Bouncing between hip-hop and electronica as if he were a one-man Party Supplies, French DJ and producer Brodinski launched his career with the support of names like 2 Many DJ's, Erol Alkan, and Bugged Out, before he entered the world of hip-hop with the help of Danny Brown, Young Scooter, and Kanye West. Based out of Reims, France, Brodinski debuted in 2007 with the electro 12" "Bad Runner" on Mental Groove. Two years later he helmed the mix CD Bugged Out! Presents Suck My Deck and joined the Southern Fried label by collaborating with Mumdance on the "Eurostarr" single. Another mix CD dropped when Fabriclive 60 arrived in 2011, the same year Brodinski launched his own Bromance label with "Bromance #1," an electro 12" recorded with Gesaffelstein. The Chopped & Screwed Mixtape from 2012 found him dropping remixes in a Southern hip-hop style, then he remixed Danny Brown's single "Die Like a Rockstar" that same year. Gesaffelstein and Brodinski partnered again in 2013, this time producing two tracks for Kanye West's monolithic Yeezus album. Two years later he released his debut album, Brava, on the Parlophone label. The LP featured guest appearances from Makonnen, Slim Thug, Young Scooter, and many others.

Dezember 2015 in Los Angeles.

"Ace of Spades" is a song by English heavy metal band Motörhead, released in 1980 as a single and the title track to the album Ace of Spades.

Initially issued as a 7" vinyl single on 27 October 1980 as a preview to the album Ace of Spades and autumn tour, the song was also released by Bronze Records as a 12" vinyl pressing in special Christmas picture sleeves, limited to 50,000 copies. The picture of the band in Santa outfits used on the cover was taken at the Aylesbury Fair, while the band were on tour.

Bronze also issued German and Spanish 7" vinyl versions which had a different sleeves, as well as a Japanese release, with a colour picture insert with song lyrics in English and Japanese. One sided test pressings (not mis-presses, but used in the trade) escaped the pressing plant and are on the market.

The song opens with an overdriven bass intro played by Lemmy. For the lyrics, he said he "used gambling metaphors, mostly cards and dice—when it comes to that sort of thing, I'm more into the one-arm bandits actually, but you can't really sing about spinning fruit, and the wheels coming down".

On 6 September 1980, Lemmy was interviewed by Graham Neale on BBC Radio 1's Rock on Saturday show, "Bomber", "Ace of Spades" and "Love Me Like a Reptile" were played. The following month, on 6 and 20 October, the band played the song on BBC TV show Top of the Pops.
