The New Respects are a high-energy throwback rock and soul quartet comprising siblings Alexandria, Alexis, and Darius Fitzgerald, and their cousin Jasmine Mullen. The children of a Nashville preacher, twins Alexandria (guitar) and Alexis (bass) and their brother Darius (drums) grew up on gospel music, and while Mullen (vocals) heard a wider range of influences in the house, her parents were both songwriters in the Christian music industry, with her mom, Nicole C. Mullen, having established herself as a prominent recording artist in the early 2000s. Forming in high school as the John Hancock Band, the quartet was initially based around more of an indie folk sound. As they became more established, the influences of early rock, R&B, blues, and soul began to inform their sound, and their music became more dynamic. By 2016, they'd signed with Capitol CMG and changed their name to the New Respects. Following a pair of singles later that year, they made their debut in early 2017 with the Here Comes Trouble EP. The non-album single "Freedom" appeared in May 2018.

Singer and songwriter Luke Bryan comes by his country influences naturally: he grew up in Leesburg, Georgia, a small town 100 miles from the Alabama border where his father grew peanuts and sold fertilizer for a living. Bryan helped his family work the farm when he was young, but in his early teens he developed a passion for country music, picking up his influences from his parents' record collection, listening to the likes of George Strait, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, Alan Jackson, and Merle Haggard. When he was 14, his folks bought him his first guitar, and a year later, his playing and singing were strong enough that he started sitting in with local bands at a club featuring live country music. At 16, Bryan started writing songs with the help of a pair of local tunesmiths who had enjoyed some success in Nashville; he planned to head to Music City to try his luck after graduating from high school until his brother died in an auto accident. Wanting to offer emotional support to his family, Bryan opted to attend Georgia Southern University instead, though he didn't give up music. He continued writing songs, formed a band, and was playing gigs on campus or at nearby watering holes most weekends while pursuing his studies. He recorded a self-released album, which he sold at shows during this period, but was reluctant to take the plunge and devote himself to music full-time until he returned home to work in the family business after receiving his degree. Bryan's dad, confident of his son's talent, made him an offer: he could either move to Nashville or be fired.

In 2019, Bryan resumed his seat as an American Idol judge, while releasing the singles "Knockin' Boots" and "What She Wants Tonight."

Self-described fashion-art rock band Palaye Royale mix grandiose modern alt-pop with gritty guitar rock that, at times, recalls both glam and Brit-pop. The Las Vegas-based indie trio developed a grassroots following thanks to their YouTube savvy and early self-released singles like 2012's "Morning Light" and 2013's "Get Higher." After signing with Sumerian Records, they delivered an ambitious two-part debut, Boom Boom Room, which was split into two full albums in 2016 and 2018.

Aversions Crown is a deathcore band from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The sextet -- featuring three eight-string guitarists -- formed in 2010, and with producer Andy Marsh (Thy Art Is Murder), and quickly recorded a debut album called Servitude, which the band self-released the following year. Servitude earned the attention of Nuclear Blast, which signed the band and released Tyrant -- also produced by Marsh -- in 2014. The band supported the record with tours in Australia, often taking a supporting role, and during this time the lineup shifted somewhat. By 2017's Xenocide, Aversions Crown settled into a lineup featuring guitarists Chris Cougan, Hayden, and Me; bassist Jay; drummer Jayden Mason, and singer Mark Poida.

Emerging in the late '90s from a scene populated by pioneering metal acts like In Flames, Arch Enemy, and Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork were instrumental in infusing punishing Gothenburg-style death metal with European power metal majesty. Debuting in 1998 with the uncompromising Steel Bath Suicide, the group hit their stride in 2005 with the release of their metalcore-leaning sixth full-length effort, Stabbing the Drama, which saw them crystallize their sound and helped break them overseas. Subsequent efforts like Sworn to a Great Divide (2007) and The Living Infinite (2013) continued to beat the drum of both melody and might, solidifying Soilwork's reputation as one of Swedish melodic death metal's most versatile and venerable exports.

The lineup continued to shift in 2016 with the departure of drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who soon joined Megadeth. Death Resonance, a compilation of B-sides and rarities arrived that year, with the veteran metallers tenth studio long player, Verkligheten, set to arrive in early 2019.

Formed in 2014 after the dissolution of Berlin-based vocalist and songwriter Johanna Sadonis' previous band the Oath (an occult-themed doom/punk/hard rock project with Swedish guitarist Linnéa Olsson), Lucifer continues to explore the German siren's fascination with the dark side, but with a proto-metal and blues-rock twist. Drawing inspiration from classic rock bands like Blue Öyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin, the band, which also included bass player Dino Gollnick, drummer Andrew Prestidge, and Cathedral guitarist Garry "Gaz" Jennings, inked a deal with Rise Above Records shortly after forming. Their debut long-player, the aptly named Lucifer I, appeared in 2015. Prestidge and Jennings departed amicably the following year, making room for Hellacopters guitarist/vocalist and Entombed drummer Nicke Andersson, who also happens to be Sadonis' husband. After relocating to Stockholm, Sweden, the band began work on its sophomore effort, Lucifer II, which arrived in July 2018.

Taimane - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Latin, Live In Concert]

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Taimane
Added: 13-03-2020

Description : Taimane: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

March 6, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- So much magic unfolded in such short order. Within the first moments of Taimane's stunning set, we hear her play fiery flamenco, a famous phrase from the opera Carmen, a touch of Bach and more than a nod to her Hawaiian homeland, all on her ukulele.

Taimane began playing ukulele at age five; these days, it's seemingly become an extension of her body. Her band includes guitarist Ramiro Marziani, violinist Melissa Baethoven and, on Cajon, Jonathan Heraux. Together they were impassioned and tight. Then along came a surprise. In what is a first at the Tiny Desk, a dancer named Li'o performed in a hau skirt made from dried lauhala leaves, with a lei of white conch wrapped around his neck. His Polynesian dance, along with the stick percussion, added to the beauty and the intensity. And that's just the first half.

Taimane chose to represent the elements of the earth on her latest album, Elemental, and she brought the most feisty of those elements to the Tiny Desk: "Fire." This music draws inspiration from Cuban traditions, with moments that are sensual as well as ecstatic. Taimane is a beautiful singer and a dynamic performer. I was fortunate enough to see her live performance last year at SXSW in Austin. It was as unforgettable then as it was here at the Tiny Desk.

Listen to the EP "The Resurrection" here:

Canadian melodic power/death metal quintet CRIMSON SHADOWS have returned with their powerful new digital EP, The Resurrection. The EP features a reimagining of the band’s 2007 track, “Betrayed By Thy King”, as well as blistering covers of STRATOVARIUS’s "Against The Wind" and DRAGONFORCE’s "Blackfire". This marks the new age of CRIMSON SHADOWS!

Vocalist Jimi Patrick Maltais says about the video concept and track:
"The subject matter of the song is about a general in an army being betrayed by his king. The reason for the betrayal is that the king has gone mad and views his greatest general, who has always been loyal, as a threat. It takes influence from Game of Thrones and the blockbuster movie Gladiator."

Though their sound comes straight out of the spacy prog and proto-metal of the '70s, Swedish band Horisont formed in 2006. Comprised of singer Axel Söderberg, guitarists Charles Van Loo and Kristofer Möller, bassist Magnus Delborg, and drummer Pontus Jordan, the band conjures the sounds of rock and metal's age of exploration with sprawling compilations that evoke the classical influences of Yes and Jethro Tull with the drive and desire of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. The band's first album, Tva Sidor Av Horisonten, arrived on Crusher Records in 2009. From there the band continued to push the boundaries of fuzzy, revivalist psych rock with two back-to-back albums, 2012's Second Assault and 2013's Time Warriors, both of which were issued via Metal Blade. The self-described "space saga" Odyssey arrived in 2015, followed in 2017 by About Time, their first outing for Century Media.

In 2008, he hit a chart peak with fourth effort, All I Feel, which topped the Billboard Independent and R&B charts. After an extended decade-long hiatus, he returned with 2019's Raydemption.

Bridging the gap between drill, R&B, house, and British rap, French-born rapper Octavian broke onto the crowded London scene with 2017's Party Here.

Born in Lille, France, Octavian Godji moved to Camberwell, South London at a young age with his mother and after attending the now famous BRIT school in Croydon -- whose previous alumni included Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Jessie J -- Octavian left to pursue his own musical style. Inspired by the likes of Chief Keef and Drake, he set about merging the sounds of hip-hop, house, and the rising drill scene in London. In 2017 he released the fragmented and woozy-sounding Party Here, becoming a home-grown hit within the scene; it wasn't long before Drake was quoting the rapper on his own social media accounts. In the following year, Octavian released several tracks -- "Little," "100 Degrees," "Hands" -- before signing a deal with respected label Black Butter. Octavian's debut album, Spaceman, appeared in the September, and saw him perfecting his own take on the British hip-hop sound.

With a rangy set of friends from Fall Out Boy to Lil Wayne, it was clear from the start that Tyga was not your everyday rapper from Compton. After recording a mixtape and promoting it around the city, Tyga ran into his cousin, Gym Class Heroes member Travis McCoy, in the Flight Club L.A. sneaker shop. Their conversation went from shoes to rappers, and as Travis' group went from unknowns to MTV stars, he would always remember that talk and his cousin's unique style.

In 2019, he issued Legendary, a typically horny set which recruited guests Lil Wayne, Blueface, J Balvin, Bazzi, Chris Brown, and many more.

A Swedish melodic hard rock and metal outfit with a knack for pairing classic NWOBHM sonic architecture with European-style power and progressive metal bombast, Stockholm's Dynazty emerged in 2007 and quickly became notable players in the crowded Scandinavian heavy music scene. Established by guitarists Love Magnusson and John Berg, the group eventually expanded into a five-piece with the additions of drummer Georg Härnsten Egg, bassist Joel Fox Apelgren, and powerhouse vocalist Nils Molin. 2009's Bring the Thunder served as the band's introduction, but it was 2011's Knock You Down and 2012's Sultans of Sin that caught the heavy metal community's attention, with the latter LP arriving in the midst of the group's almost-successful run on that year's Melodifestivalen, Sweden's annual Eurovision qualifying music competition. The group inked a deal with Spinefarm Records for their fourth studio effort, 2013's Renatus, which saw Dynazty leaning harder into the power side of the metal spectrum and featured a re-tooled lineup (Berg was replaced by new six-stringer Mikael Lavér and Jonathan Olsson took over bass duties from Apelgren). Three years later the band returned with the aptly named Titanic Mass, which added symphonic elements to the mix. The band relocated to AFM Records for album number six, 2018's hard-charging Firesign.

Distance can also manifest metaphorically, and it’s in these figurative chasms that Truth or Consequences finds it’s narrative: romantic and platonic heartbreak, real and imagined emotional distance, disillusionment, and being out of reach.

Yumi Zouma deliberately pursued a deeper sense of collaboration in order to craft a record that reflects the bond between them. Produced by the band and mixed by engineer Jake Aron (Solange, Grizzly Bear, Snail Mail), Truth or Consequences stems from sessions in Los Angeles, London, and Christchurch, where the band actively took a collegial approach, often working note-by-note, to ensure the foundations of the album reflected a sense of togetherness.

Throughout, Simpson’s voice gives weight to whispers of impressionistic poetry, shielding hard truths with soft tones, while Burgess’ vocals reveal a rarified dimension of raw and lucid romanticism. With this being the first Yumi Zouma album to feature live drums, courtesy of Campion, Truth or Consequences is a testament to the success of the band’s approach – a unified body of melody that mines the spaces in between.

A progressive metal outfit from Tunisia, Myrath honor their regional heritage by incorporating middle eastern instrumentation into their heady mix of power metal and cinematic prog rock. Based out of the coastal city of Ezzahra, the group was originally formed in 2001 as a covers band by guitarist Malek Ben Arbia, who at the time was only 13 years old. As the band continued to improve and develop some progressive muscle, they began writing originals and making festival appearances. In 2007, after issuing a Tunisia-only demo called Double Face two years prior, Myrath released their official debut album, Hope. Desert Call arrived in 2010, followed by Tales of the Sands (2011), and Legacy (2016).

Lennon Stella's path to a career in music has featured enough unexpected twists and turns to seem like the plot of a TV drama -- which in her case is certainly appropriate. Lennon and her younger sister Maisy were the daughters of a Canadian country music duo, and thanks to their parents' appearance on a televised talent competition, they were cast on the popular television series Nashville, playing the daughters of a well-known country music star. After several seasons of playing a talented young vocalist, reality started to mirror fiction as Lennon began writing songs for the show, and in 2018 she stepped out as a solo artist and songwriter with the song "Like Everybody Else."

Post-grunge outfit RED first got their start in Pennsylvania playing contemporary Christian covers to area youth groups. They soon grew tired of pop songs, however, and began crafting their own hard-edged rock tunes that often confronted personal issues from their lives. According to lead singer Mike Barnes, the name RED was chosen as a symbol "for the blood of Christ and what it represents: passion, pain, but ultimately, redemption." Comprising Barnes, Jasen Rauch (guitar), Hayden Lamb (drummer), and identical twins Anthony Armstrong (guitar/vocals) and Randy Armstrong (bass/piano/vocals), the group cited influences from bands like Chevelle, Linkin Park, and Muse.

Spearheaded by the single "Breathe into Me," RED's first nationally distributed album, End of Silence, was released in June 2006 on Essential Records. Always wanting to directly connect with fans through their energetic live show, the band spent the summer touring nationwide, including dates at multiple festivals. A van crash put injured drummer Hayden Lamb on the sidelines for their 2007 headlining tour, but RED soldiered on -- gaining mass appeal with their rapidly growing CCM fanbase. Later in 2007, the band took home the Rock Recorded Song of the Year award at the 38th annual GMA Dove Awards. Innocence & Instinct appeared in 2009, followed by Release the Panic early in 2013. A remix version of the latter LP, Release the Panic: Recalibrated, preceded the arrival of the group's fifth studio long-player, 2015's Of Beauty and Rage, which was promoted with a graphic novel telling the story behind the album. September 2017 saw the band drop a pair of singles, "Still Alive" and "Losing Control," in anticipation of the release of the full-length Gone, which arrived later that October.

Pre-order "Weapons of Tomorrow" here:

Out April 24th

WARBRINGER vocalist John Kevill says:
"‘The Black Hand Reaches Out’ is the second track we are releasing from Weapons of Tomorrow, along with an accompanying music video. The song and video both reference the Serbian paramilitary nationalist group, known as "The Black Hand." This was the organization that plotted the Franz Ferdinand assassination in Sarajevo – probably the most consequential terrorist attack of all time. Not a conspiracy theory, but an actual conspiracy. The song's lyrics represent the orders coming from the organization to the (expendable) agent. The song itself is a mid-tempo stomper with a sneaky, clandestine feel, and is one of the many different forms of thrash assault that we are bringing to you all with Weapons of Tomorrow.”

A hard-charging neo-thrash unit based out of Newbury Park, California, Warbringer were founded in 2004 while the bandmembers were still in high school. Inspired by first-wave thrash giants like Death Angel, Metallica, and Anthrax, the group recorded a promising demo that eventually led to an EP, One by One, The Wicked Fall, in 2006. The EP was solid enough to capture the attention of Century Media, who quickly signed Warbringer and released their debut album, War Without End, in 2008. The following year saw the release of Waking Into Nightmares, which was produced by Exodus guitarist Dan Seagrave, and in 2011 the band dropped its third studio long-player, World Torn Asunder. IV: Empires Collapse arrived in 2013, followed by the punishing Woe to the Vanquished, the band's first for Napalm Records, in 2017.
