Montgomery Bernard "Monty" Alexander (born 6 June 1944) is a Jamaican jazz pianist. His playing has a Caribbean influence and bright swinging feeling, with a strong vocabulary of bebop jazz and blues rooted melodies. He was influenced by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, and Frank Sinatra. Alexander also sings and plays the melodica. He is known for his surprising musical twists, bright rhythmic sense, and intense dramatic musical climaxes. Monty's recording career has covered many of the well known American songbook standards, jazz standards, pop hits, and Jamaican songs from his original homeland. Alexander has resided in New York City for many years and performs frequently throughout the world at jazz festivals and clubs.

Brooklyn MC Phresher was born in 1989 and grew up an athlete before deciding to switch gears at age 21 and pursue a life in music. In the early stages of developing his style, the rapper privately wrote over a hundred songs that were never released, just as an exercise to define where he wanted his music to go. Though Phresher was born and raised in New York, his rap styles were versatile and took on various flavors, some songs more reminiscent of the flows of Southern rappers and others more true to his East Coast roots. Starting right around 2012, he released various singles and EPs online, but it wasn't until his 2016 single "Wait a Minute" that he truly began to take off. That song caught the ear of rap veteran 50 Cent, who collaborated with Phresher and Remy Ma on a remix of the song that drew even more attention to the young rapper. In early 2017 the six-track Wait a Minute EP was released, featuring the hit remix version of the title track and five other trap-tinged bangers.

The Babys are a British rock group best known for their songs "Isn't It Time" and "Every Time I Think of You". Both songs were composed by Jack Conrad and Ray Kennedy, and each reached No. 13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the Cashbox chart in the late 1970s. The original Babys line-up consisted of founding member keyboardist/guitarist Michael Corby, and, in order of joining the group, vocalist/bassist John Waite, drummer Tony Brock, and guitarist Wally Stocker.

Union Jacks is The Babys fourth album, which peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200 in 1980. The lead single "True Love True Confession" failed to chart and was succeeded by the minor hit "Midnight Rendezvous," and finally the hit single "Back on My Feet Again", which was their last Top 40 hit, reaching #33. The band recorded a fifth album, On the Edge, then split. Union Jacks was reissued on May 26, 2009 under Rock Candy Records after being out of print for many years. There are no bonus tracks, but all of the tracks have been remastered. This was the first Babys album to feature keyboardist Jonathan Cain and bassist Ricky Phillips.

Growing up in a small Southern town, rapper JayDaYoungan rose to fame on sheer talent alone, gaining the attention of millions of fans through his viral videos and uniquely delivered tracks. Early songs followed in the footsteps of influential Southern rappers who came before him, but as he continued to release music prolifically, his style diversified somewhat, as with the R&B-tinged 2018 single "Interstate" and more melodic tracks on mixtapes like Forever 23.

JayDaYoungan was born Javarious Scott in 1998 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Growing up surrounded by the influence of Louisiana hip-hop legends like Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, and Lil Boosie, JayDaYoungan got into music at an early age and released his first mixtape, Ruffwayy, in early 2017 when he was 18. He quickly garnered buzz for stand-out songs like "Spinning" and "Taking Off" and gained an enormous social media following in the span of a few months. A quick succession of mixtapes followed, with The Real Jumpman23 arriving in 2017 and Wake Up and Taking Off following the next year. Never slowing down, JayDaYoungan released the somewhat R&B-tinged single "Interstate" in February of 2018; the song and accompanying video quickly racked up millions of views and streams online. 2018 would be a huge year for JayDaYoungan, who released two more mixtapes before year's end, 23 and the Billboard-charting Forever 23. Forever 23 spawned the single "Thot Thot," which was among his most popular to date, racking up millions of streams and video views. Along with this constant output of new music of his own, he also collaborated on tracks with peers like Youngeen Ace, Glitchman, and FG Famous, among many others. Before the year was over, he released the single "No Play Zone" in late December. His next two mixtapes, Endless Pain and Misunderstood, saw release in 2019: both debuted even higher in the charts than Forever 23, and yielded several more viral singles.

Delacey's smoky, yearning vocals were featured on EDM tracks by the likes of the Knocks and Alex Midi before she made her solo debut with the atmospheric pop song "My Man" in 2019. In the meantime, she established a résumé as a contributing songwriter for acts including the Chainsmokers, Zara Larsson, and Halsey, including the latter's chart-topping single "Without Me."

Born and raised in Orange County, California, Brittany Amaradio began singing and playing piano and guitar at a young age. After finishing high school, she briefly moved to Manhattan, where she wrote the song "New York City" the day before quitting her day job and deciding to move back to the West Coast. After settling in Los Angeles, she signed a publishing deal with Universal, and "New York City" was brought to the attention of the Chainsmokers. The duo recorded the song for their 2015 EP Bouquet. Amaradio focused on songwriting for the next three years, although after adopting the pseudonym Delacey, she was featured on the minor 2016 dance hit "In the Air Tonight," a cover of the Phil Collins tune by Alex Midi. That year, her voice could also be heard on the song "Dream It Impossible," which was featured in an international smartphone campaign.

Delacey went on to co-write songs for artists including, but not limited to, Demi Lovato, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lost Kings, and 2018 saw the release of the Delacey co-penned single "Without Me" by Halsey. A worldwide hit, it went all the way to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2019. Just a few weeks later, Delacey's writing could be heard on another Hot 100 single, Zara Larsson's "Ruin My Life." In the meantime, Delacey signed with HITCO and released her official debut single, "My Man," in March 2019.

March 16, 2020 | Lyndsey McKenna and Marissa Lorusso -- Like many who have graced the Tiny Desk before him, the awkwardness of performing in a working office wasn't lost on Harry Styles. "It just feels like you're in the way," he joked. But when you watch his set from behind Bob Boilen's desk, you'd never suspect any discomfort.

Backed by his touring band, Styles performed several songs from his latest solo album, Fine Line. Between tracks, he talked about the process of writing these songs: From the day off in Nashville that led to "Watermelon Sugar," to the feeling of lovesickness he tried to capture in "Adore You." The camaraderie between the band was clear; and Styles was in on the joy, twirling in his seat between verses.

Styles might not necessarily be the first name that comes to mind when you think of public radio's only working, desk-music-discovery platform. After all, he's got a wildly devoted fanbase that's followed his every move since his One Direction days. In fact, before soundcheck had even started, a crowd of fans had begun to gather outside NPR HQ. They rightly suspected he would be playing a Tiny Desk concert after word got out that the former One Directioner was spotted in D.C. with no tour date on his public schedule.

But beyond the headlines, Styles has proven to be an artist who takes his songcraft and aesthetic seriously, interested in subverting expectations of what a pop star can and should sound like in 2020. That sense of unpretentious creativity is exactly what he brought to his Tiny Desk performance – and it definitely earned him some new adoring public radio fans in the process.

"I have to come into NPR more often," Styles said after he and his band played their first song. "It's nice here."

We — and our massive crowd of colleagues — couldn't agree more.

American singer/songwriter Brian Christinzio -- who performs under the name BC Camplight -- received widespread acclaim for his one-man band take on classic pop songwriting. Marrying well-crafted if quirky pop melodies with lyrics that often dealt with dark themes informed by his struggles with depression, Philadelphia-based Christinzio's distinctive music attracted the attention of the U.K.-based label One Little Indian, who released his first two albums, 2005's Hide, Run Away and 2007's Blink of a Nihilist. Personal problems sidelined Christinzio until he made a new home in Manchester, England, signed with Bella Union, and issued How to Die in the North in 2015.

However, while supporting the album, Christinzio ran afoul of U.K. immigration authorities when his visa expired, and he found himself back in Philadelphia, where his depression once again derailed his muse. As Christinzio struggled to find a way to return to the city he now thought of as home, he wrote a new set of songs, and these experiences informed his second Bella Union release, 2018's Deportation Blues.

Dublin, Ireland-based modern rock quartet Kodaline specialize in soaring, radio-ready guitar rock that's drawn comparisons to Coldplay, Keane, U2, and Oasis. Formed in the working-class town of Swords around the talents of Steve Garrigan, Vinnie May, Jr., Jason Boland, and Mark Prendergast, the band released an eponymous EP in 2012, with plans to unleash a full-length outing the following year. At the end of 2012, the band was shortlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2013, but was beaten to the top spot by HAIM. Kodaline released their debut album, In a Perfect World, in June 2013, which was preceded by the singles High Hopes and Love Like This. The album was a major success in Ireland, going platinum twice, and it also did well in Britain (it peaked at three and went gold) as well as portions of Europe. Kodaline's second album, Coming Up for Air, followed in early 2015. The album peaked at number four on the U.K. charts and spawned the singles "The One" and "Honest." In the summer of 2017, the band returned with the single "Brother" and the I Wouldn't Be EP. The next year, they issued the single "Follow Your Fire," which landed on their pop-leaning third full-length, Politics of Living.

As an early pillar of Atlanta's groundbreaking trap scene, Rich the Kid moved from collaborations with Migos, Young Thug, and others to starting his own label just a few years later. With a style very much in line with the dark, highly pressurized flows of other icons of Atlanta hip-hop, he established himself with a string of mixtapes and singles that has led to a deal with major-label Interscope Records, the multi-platinum hit "New Freezer" (2017), and the Top Five albums The World Is Yours (2018) and The World Is Yours 2 (2019).

"Blue Morning, Blue Day" is a song written by Lou Gramm and Mick Jones that was first released as the third single on Foreigner's second album, Double Vision, reaching #15 on the Hot 100, the band's sixth top 40 single in two years, and #45 in the U.K. The song was backed with the Mick Jones song "I Have Waited So Long". "Blue Morning, Blue Day" is also available as downloadable content for the Rock Band series and was released on clear blue vinyl.

Gramm said about the song, "It talks about a young musician that's burning the candle at both ends. He has a lot on his mind, and walks the street at night." Blue is used as a metaphor for misery. The color was later in a different context on Gramm's 1987 solo hit "Midnight Blue". Ultimate Classic Rock critic Matt Wardlaw describes the song as being about a "tangled relationship" reaching its breaking point and culminating with the singer telling his lover "Well, honey don't telephone / 'Cause I won't be alone / I need someone to make me feel better." Wardlaw rated it as Foreigner's 9th greatest song. Jones has rated it one of his 11 favorite Foreigner songs, stating that it "signified the slightly dark and tense atmosphere that [Jones] felt was a very important part of our directions."

Ragnarok is a Norwegian black metal band. The band was formed in Sarpsborg, Norway in 1994 by Jerv and Jontho, after they left Thoth, their previous band. Lyrical themes include Norse Mythology, Vikings, Satanism, War, and Anti-Christianity. The band's name comes from the Old Norse word Ragnarök, the prophesied last battle between the Norse gods and the giants. They are "one of the most extreme black metal bands in Norway", making heavy use of make-up and special effects.
