His signature sound might be a simple "Yeahhhh Yeahhhhh Yeahhhh" at the end of his lines, but YFN Lucci is a strong, versatile lyricist, one who made his official debut at the age of 17 and has since gone on to become a fixture on the Billboard 200 via albums like Long Live Nut (2017) and Ray Ray from Summerhill (2018).

The Atlanta MC was born Rayshawn Bennett and began rapping when he was 16. A year later, he was recruited by Johnny Cinco for two appearances on 2014's John Popi mixtape. He joined TIG that same year, and by the end of 2014 the label had released his debut mixtape, Wish Me Well. Wish Me Well, Vol. 2 followed in 2016 and featured guest appearances from Migos, Plies, and Johnny Cinco. In April 2017, Lucci released his debut EP, Long Live Nut, which made a strong showing at number 27 on the Billboard 200. He kicked off 2018 with the release of the Meek Mill-featuring "Street Kings." Second EP Freda's Son appeared in February, and full-length Ray Ray from Summerhill dropped the following month, subsequently becoming the rapper's first Top 20-charting release. Later that December, Lucci issued the single "Double Up," which featured Rich the Kid. In 2019, Lucci released the Gangsta Grillz mixtape 650Luc, which included a Trey Songz-assisted single, "All Night Long." Before the end of the year, he returned with the HIStory mixtape. The project included multiple contributions from vocalist Bigga Rankin as well as an appearance from City Girls.

Combining elements of black metal, psychedelic rock, space rock, and progressive metal, Finland's Oranssi Pazuzu formed in 2007 around the talents of Jun-His (vocals, guitar), Ontto (bass), Korjak (drums), Evill (synthesizers), and Moit (guitar). Taking their name from the Finnish word for "orange" (Oranssi) and a particularly powerful wind demon from Babylonian mythology (Pazuzu), the band recorded their debut album in 2008 in Korjak's family cabin. The resulting Muukalainen Puhuu was released via Violent Journey Records in 2009, followed in 2010 by a split LP (called Split) with the band Candy Cane. The group's sophomore full-length, 2011's Kosmonument, was a conceptual affair about a drifter lost in the void, and 2013's ambitious, Svart-issued Valonielu saw the band working with London-based producer and engineer Jaime Gomez Arellano. Värähtelijä, the group's fourth studio long-player, dropped in February of 2016. In 2017, Spinefarm reissued the group's 2011 sophomore LP, Kosmonument.

Taking inspiration from dark and cloudy '90s indie rock luminaries like PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, and Throwing Muses, Honeyblood is the project of Scottish singer/songwriter Stina Tweeddale. She gave her songs an indie pop crunch on early releases such as 2014's Honeyblood, then cranked up the amps on 2016's Babes Never Die, a loud and clear reflection of her alt-rock influences. When Tweeddale reinvented Honeyblood as a solo project with 2019's In Plain Sight, she expanded its boundaries even further with touches of folk and synth pop.

Chicago noise rockers Melkbelly formed toward the end of 2013, with all the members coming from seemingly disparate backgrounds. Vocalist and guitarist Miranda Winters had previously performed folk-rock music under the moniker reddelicious, and brothers Bart (Winters' husband) and Liam Winters ran a show space in Chicago before taking up guitar and bass in the band. To complete the lineup, they recruited James Wetzel of noise duo Ree-Yees, who had studied jazz drums in college. Beginning in Chicago's D.I.Y. spaces, the fledgling band secured opening slots for avant rock duo Xylouris White and Brian Chippendale's solo project Black Pus.

The band set about recording its debut EP with Bitchin' Bajas' Cooper Crain in 2014. The process took just a day for recording and a day for mixing. The resulting six-track Pennsylvania EP drew comparisons to the Breeders and Lightning Bolt, as it combined the rock-focused melodicism of the former with the chaotic noise of the latter. Melkbelly continued to hone their sound with a series of singles, and 2015 saw the release of the abrasive tracks "Piss Wizard" and "Bathroom at the Beach." In 2016 they teamed up with Dave Vettraino to record the 7" "Elk Mountain" and "Mount Kool Kid" at Chicago's Public House.

Taking a more leisurely approach to what would become their debut long-player, they once again teamed up with Vettraino and wrote much of the record in the studio, tracking it to eight-track analog tape. Melkbelly appeared at SXSW in 2017 as part of a Carpark Records showcase, and despite their late arrival -- due to a 26-hour drive plagued by vehicle issues -- the band's set was received enthusiastically by the press. Their debut record, Nothing Valley, appeared in October 2017, and it marked the first release for Sadie Dupuis' (Speedy Ortiz) Wax Nine Records, a sister label to Carpark.

Based in Philadelphia but also spending time in New York, Man Man formed with members Honus Honus (vocals/synthesizer), Tiberius Lyn (drums), Clint Killingsworth (bass), and Steven Dufala (guitar/trumpet). Man Man made their album debut in 2004 with The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face, and Six Demon Bag followed in 2006 with Lyn replaced by new drummer and songwriter Pow Wow (Chris Powell). As they established themselves over the next few years, the eclectic quartet welcomed Brown Sugar (Adam Schatz) and Shono Murphy (Bryan Murphy) to their line-up after the exit of Killingsworth and Dufal, and played shows with artists such as Cat Power, Adam Green, Mirah, U.S. Maple, Aereogramme, Need New Body, and Bardo Pond. Over the course of 2008’s Rabbit Habits, 2011’s Life Fantastic, and 2013's Oni Oni Pond, the band segued into a more standard pop approach without compromising its bizarre musical style.
