Description : Elbow Bones And The Racketeers - A Night In New York • TopPop

Elbow Bones and the Racketeers was an American big band-era styled male/female vocal group, created by August Darnell, and best known for their hit single "A Night in New York", written by Ron Rogers and Deborah Clarkin, and released on the EMI label. It was sung by Stephanie Fuller. It entered the UK Singles Chart on 14 January 1984. It remained in there for nine weeks, reaching #33. The single reached #15 in the Dutch Top 40 on 17 March 1984.

Elbow Bones was the alter ego of writer/photographer John Rynski, who had become friendly with Darnell after working as his stage and lighting man on the Kid Creole and the Coconuts tours. Rynski believed Darnell had given him his nickname as he had "elbowed" his way into Darnell's entourage: he said, "I did anything for them just to be there and hang out".

Known for tracks such as "Bullet Bullet," "Right Now," and his annual "Rap Up" installments, Leonard Grant is a gruff and plainspoken rapper who represents Brooklyn's East New York neighborhood as Uncle Murda. Active since the tail-end of the '90s and a long-term DJ Green Lantern associate, Grant has released numerous mixtapes since the early 2000s. His exposure was increased by a 2007 deal with Def Jam, though he and the label split -- following the departure of Jay-Z -- before any studio recordings reached the public. Primarily an independent artist, Grant later had one of his commercial mixtapes, The First 48 (2013), issued through an arrangement with major-label Epic via Violator. In 2016, the year he and Maino released a collaborative tape titled Yellow Tape: King Kong & Godzilla, he signed to 50 Cent's G Unit label. "Thot," "Statute of Limitations," and "On and On," the latter two of which featured 50, arrived the following year, as did Uncle Murda Presents: Don't Come Outside, Vol. 1. Some of these releases were alternately credited to Lenny Grant.

Massachusetts-based rapper Token earned his stripes at a young age, writing his first songs at the age of ten and building an audience through his YouTube page where, at only 17, one of his songs went viral and earned him national recognition on blogs and in the rap community. Growing up north of Boston in Salem, Ben Goldberg began rapping under the name Token, producing tracks in a confident rapid-fire style reminiscent of Eminem. Following the success of 2015's "No Sucka MC's," Token was invited to perform on hip-hop DJ Sway Calloway's Sway in the Morning SiriusXM show and the resulting video notched over two million views. His debut album, Eraser Shavings, arrived in 2016 followed by a tour of France and an appearance at the Chorus Festival with stars like Robert Glasper and the Pharcyde. By 2017, Token's singles like "Doozy" and "Exception" began amassing millions of streams and he set out on a major tour of the U.S.

West Coast bass-and-drums punk duo the Garden rose through the ranks of the wonky, lo-fi Burger Records scene with quirky cassettes like 2012's Everything Is Perfect and 2013's The Life and Times of a Paperclip before notching a deal with Epitaph Records for the wild electro-punk of 2015's Haha and its 2018 follow-up, Mirror Might Steal Your Charm.

Growing up in the hardcore music of Saccharine Trust, the Minutemen, and Killing Joke, and sharing the quirky insider humor of bands like Dead Milkmen, They Might Be Giants, and Ween, twin brothers Fletcher and Wyatt Shears started the Garden in their hometown of Orange, California when they were 19 years old. After departing from their first band, M.H.V., and briefly modeling for Yves Saint Laurent, the two decided to make a go as a duo. With Fletcher on drums (easily identifiable by his blonde hair and habitual cross-dressing) and Wyatt singing and playing bass, the Garden released a debut cassette titled Everything Is Perfect in 2012, with The Life and Times of a Paperclip and the EP Rules appearing the following summer with all but the latter appearing via Burger Records. During this time, Fletcher Shears began releasing mostly electronic solo material under his side project Puzzle, and Wyatt started his synth/bass project Enjoy. The Garden toured extensively in 2014 and 2015, stopping in Tokyo, the U.S., and Europe. In the fall of 2015, they issued the freewheeling, 17-track electro-punk LP, Haha, a split production between Burger and Epitaph Records. The Garden's self-produced Epitaph follow-up, Mirror Might Steal Your Charm, arrived in 2018 featuring a slightly more guitar-driven sound.

With his slicked-back hair and leather jacket, American rapper G-Eazy was known as "the James Dean of rap" when he debuted in the late 2000s. Armed with bars that detailed hedonistic excess and conflicted inner turmoil, he steadily climbed the charts in the 2010s on the strength of his hit duet with Bebe Rexha, "Me, Myself & I," from his major-label debut, 2014's These Things Happen. He repeated that success in 2017 with third album The Beautiful & Damned, which paired him with Halsey on the platinum "Him & I," and A$AP Rocky and Cardi B on the Top Four hit "No Limit."

Eazy's 2019 output included the EP B-Sides, the single "West Coast" featuring Blueface, and a bevy of features on tracks by Chris Brown, Carnage, and T-Pain. He closed the year with a second EP, Scary Nights, which recruited Moneybagg Yo, French Montana, Miguel, and others.

A no-frills, everyman Canadian rock unit in the vein of the Tragically Hip, the Headstones, the Arkells, and the Trews, Kingston, Ontario's the Glorious Sons formed in 2011 around the talents of Jay Emmons, Andrew Young, Adam Paquette, Chris Huot, and Brett Emmons. Specializing in a winning blend of rootsy alt-pop and Canadian blue-collar trad rock, the band issued a debut EP (Shapeless Art) in 2013 -- the EP garnered positive reviews, as did their energetic live shows. The following year saw the Glorious Sons head into the studio with the Trews' John-Angus MacDonald and record their debut long-player. The resulting Black Box Recordings-issued The Union, which featured the radio hits "Mama," "Heavy," "White Noise," and "Lightning," arrived in September 2014 and climbed to number 23 on the Canadian Albums chart. The following year, Andrew Young parted ways with the band and was replaced by guitarist Chris Koster. Fans didn't seem to mind; the Glorious Sons' sophomore effort, 2017's Young Beauties and Fools, included the Top 40 alternative song "Everything Is Alright" and landed in the Top 20. Another single from the album, "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)," reached number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart. After a pair of live albums, Little Prison City: Live at Rogers K-Rock Centre and An Unplugged Evening with the Glorious Sons: Live at Longboat Hall, the band returned with the single "Panic Attack" in 2019 (another Mainstream Rock chart-topper) and third album A War on Everything.

Cattle Decapitation "Bring Back the Plague" from the "Death Atlas" album.

Cattle Decapitation's Travis Ryan (vocals) comments: "With the cancellation of our ironically titled 'Europandemic Tour' and social distancing recommendations set in place, we found ourselves with not much to do. So we figured why not address the elephant in the room in the form of a music video for 'Bring Back The Plague' and just film it on our mobile phones instead of with an actual crew. Dave didn’t even have access to a drum kit, and nobody is leaving their houses anyway, so we decided to lighten the mood with a video. Everything from the band name to the lyrics to the merchandise to the imagery have always been heavily steeped in metaphors and irony always with tongue firmly in cheek, so this new video by David Hall at Uneasy Sleeper may just be our coup de gras...for better, or for worse. Just don’t take it too seriously, we obviously didn’t. Sit back, have a laugh if you can, and stay the fuck home at all times possible."

Stay in touch with Madonna…

"Vogue" is a song by American singer Madonna from her second soundtrack album I'm Breathless (1990). It was released as the first single from the album on March 27, 1990, by Sire Records. Madonna was inspired by vogue dancers and choreographers Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza and Luis Xtravaganza from the Harlem "House Ball" community, the origin of the dance form, and they introduced "Vogueing" to her at the Sound Factory club in New York City. "Vogue" is an upbeat house song which set trends in dance music in the 1990s with strong influences of 1970s disco within its composition. "Vogue" also contains a spoken section, in which Madonna name-checks various golden-era Hollywood celebrities. Lyrically, the song is about enjoying oneself on the dance floor no matter who one is, and it contains a theme of escapism.

Critically, "Vogue" has been met with appreciation ever since its release; reviewers have praised its anthemic nature and listed it as one of Madonna's career highlights. Commercially, the song remains one of Madonna's biggest international hits, topping the charts in over 30 countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It became the world's best-selling single of 1990, selling over six million copies.

The music video for "Vogue", directed by David Fincher, was shot in black-and-white and takes stylistic inspiration from the 1920s and 1930s. Madonna and her dancers can be seen voguing to different choreographed moves. The video has been ranked as one of the greatest of all time in different critic lists and polls and won three awards at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards out of a total of nine nominations.

Madonna has performed the song on six of her tours, at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards, and at her performance during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVI. The song has also been featured on the soundtrack of The Devil Wears Prada, as well as in "The Power of Madonna" episode of the Fox show Glee. Writers and critics have noted the video and the song's influence in bringing an underground subculture into mainstream popular culture through the postmodern nature of her power and influence, as well as the way in which it followed a new trend in which dance music enjoyed widespread popularity.

Andrew Wegman Bird (born July 11, 1973) is an American indie rock multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Since 1996, he has released 15 studio albums, as well as several live albums and EPs, spanning various genres including swing music, indie rock, and folk music. He is primarily known for his violin playing (accompanied by loop and effect pedals), whistling, and voice.

On March 22, 2019, Bird released My Finest Work Yet via Loma Vista Recordings. The album features singles “Sisyphus” and “Manifest”. My Finest Work Yet was recorded live to tape at Barefoot Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Produced by Paul Butler, Bird and the band went for a Rudy Van Gelder jazz room sound where the instruments bleed into all the mics in just the right way.[peacock term] Piano plays a strong role on these songs and most of the melodies are tinged with a gospel-jazz-60s soul feel while the lyrics are direct and risk-taking, cutting to the quick of what’s happening in our world.

Lonely the Brave formed in Cambridge, U.K. in 2009 when vocalist David Jakes, guitarist Mark Trotter, bassist Andrew Bushen, and drummer Gavin Edgeley all fell together after their respective bands either split or ended. With a love of groups such as Pearl Jam and the National forming their bond, the four-piece set about recording and touring straightaway. A self-released EP, Backroads, appeared in 2010 and a tour of the U.K. followed, seeing them receiving praise for their intense live performances. Building their following organically, the group soon started to earn plaudits from the likes of Kerrang! magazine and BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, and in 2013 announced that they had signed to Hassle Records. A re-recorded version of Backroads was released in the October of that year after a summer of festival gigs, including a performance at the prestigious Reading Festival and support slots with the likes of the Deftones and Bruce Springsteen. Entering the studio with Mark Williams at the end of 2013, the group set about recording their debut album, The Day's War. While recording as a four-piece, the group realized that playing the songs live would need an extra guitarist, and Ross Smithwick joined the band in early 2014. With the album originally scheduled for a June release, it was pushed back after the group announced that they had signed an international deal with Columbia Records. After a three-month delay, The Day's War was released, entering the U.K Top 20 album chart while garnering positive reviews across the board. The band returned to the studio in 2015 with producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A.) to record their sophomore release, Things Will Matter. Preceded by the singles "Black Mire" and "What If You Fall In," the album was slated for an early 2016 release. The EP Diamond Days was released in 2017.

Sonic Boom is the alias of Pete Kember, known first as the singer/guitarist in the legendary hypno-drone unit Spacemen 3, then as the leader of Spectrum and Experimental Audio Research in the '90s, and as a producer (MGMT, Panda Bear) and collaborator (No Joy, Dean & Britta) since then.

While attending art college, Rugby, England native Kember teamed with Jason Pierce to form Spacemen 3, recording a demo tape in 1986; after signing to Glass Records, the group recorded its debut LP, Sound of Confusion, for which Kember adopted the name Peter Gunn. By the time of their follow-up EP, Walkin' with Jesus, he had rechristened himself Sonic Boom, keeping the pseudonym for the duration of the band and beyond. In 1990 he issued an album under the Sonic Boom name, Spectrum; then when Spacemen 3 broke up soon after, Kember recycled the Spectrum title as the name of his new band. Spectrum debuted with the Soul Kiss (Glide Divine) LP in 1992, and released two more LPs (Highs, Lows & Heavenly Blows and Forever Alien) as the decade progressed. They also issued many singles and EPs, as well as collaborations with Silver Apples and Jessamine.

During the 2000s he worked with Füxa, the Warlocks, Magnétophone, Dean & Britta, Cheval Sombre, Sunray, and the Flowers from Hell, both as a performer and producer. His return from the fringes of the alternative scene occurred when MGMT hired him to produce their high-profile second album, Congratulations, in 2010. Afterwards, he continued working steadily, adding his hypnotic magic to records by TEEN, Cheval Sombre, Panda Bear, and Moon Duo, and collaborating on a heavily electronic 2018 EP with shoegaze revivalists No Joy.

Fusing elements of indie rock, world music, and cool dance rhythms, Angel Deradoorian launched a solo career after making a name for herself collaborating with noted acts such as Dirty Projectors, Avey Tare, and Flying Lotus. Deradoorian was born on July 18, 1986, and grew up in California, not far from Sacramento. Deradoorian's parents signed her up for violin lessons when she was just five years old, but she didn't take to the instrument at that young an age; she fared better with the piano, which she began playing when she was seven. As a teenager, Deradoorian was interested in Radiohead and Elliott Smith, and began exploring the music scene in Berkeley once she was old enough to drive; at 16, she decided she wanted to make music her career. After relocating to Brooklyn, New York, Deradoorian landed her first major gig when she was hired as the touring bassist with the band Dirty Projectors as they hit the road following the release of the 2007 album Rise Above. Deradoorian appeared on Dirty Projectors' next album, 2009's Bitte Orca, and that same year she released her first solo EP under the name Deradoorian, a five-song EP called Mind Raft, produced by Dirty Projectors' leader David Longstreth. ALESTORM on the new video:
"Oh wow! We tried our very best to make a video that would alienate as many of our fans as possible. I think we succeeded! This song is about giving birth to yourself, selling out, and driving awful Yugoslavian cars. All the classic elements of pirate metal!"

Originally known as Battleheart, Alestorm, the purveyors of the relatively unexplored musical territory known as "pirate metal," formed in their original (pre-nautical) phase in 2004. As Battleheart, the group was initially a duo formed by Gavin Harper (guitar) and Christopher Bowes (vocals and keyboards), and recorded its first EP (a self-titled affair) in 2006. Over the course of the next year, feeling the need to bring their sound to the people of Scotland, Battleheart expanded to a four-piece with the addition of bassist Dani Evans and drummer Doug Swierczek. The new crew recorded another EP soon after, entitled Terror on the High Seas, and the buzz helped land a song from the release on Metal Hammer magazine's Battle Metal V compilation. Later that year, in 2007, the bandmembers -- after signing with Napalm Records -- decided to change their name to further the cause of their unique brand of metal, settling on Alestorm. Eventually, the lineup coalesced a bit more, with Ian Wilson bringing stability to the drummer position, and Alestorm released their debut album, Captain Morgan's Revenge, in early 2008. The band toured the United States later that year with fellow folk-metal giants Týr and Heidevolk before releasing its second full-length, Black Sails at Midnight, in spring 2009. The band further cemented their reputation for pirate-themed metal over the next five years by releasing two albums, 2011's Back Through Time and 2014's Sunset on the Golden Age. A year later, their fourth album guitarist, Dani Evans, left the group; he was eventually replaced by Máté Bodor (Wisdom), who made his first recorded appearance on their fifth studio album, 2017's No Grave But the Sea.

Calboy - 'Long Live The Kings' EP out now!:

Follow Calboy:

Chicago rapper Calboy looked to his own struggles with mental health and substance abuse when writing some of his hardest-hitting rhymes. Going so far as to name one of his mixtapes Anxiety, his songs loom heavy with moody melodies and huge trap beats. Several singles such as "Can't Tell" paved the way for new fans, but it was the 2018 single "Envy Me" that broke through to millions with a viral video.

Calboy was born Calvin Wood in 1999. He was raised in the gritty South Chicago neighborhood of Calumet City, growing up amid crime and violence. This hostile environment would influence his music early on, with lyrics reflecting both the tough conditions of street life and the anxiety and depression he felt because of it. He formed a crew of artists and friends called the Paper Gang and set about working on music both solo and with this collective. His first mixtape, The Chosen One, was released in 2017 and was followed months later that same year with second mixtape Anxiety. 2018 brought the brief ten-song mixtape Calboy the Wild Boy, released on Paper Gang. While working on his next project, Calboy dropped the single "Envy Me" in September of 2018. The song caught on in a massive way, being streamed millions of times within its first few months of release. The buzz surrounding Calboy, the song and its place in a burgeoning scene of melodic rap coming out of Chicago was enough to land the rapper a major-label deal with RCA. In 2019, the Wildboy mixtape was assembled around the song, and included features from Lil Durk, Young Thug, Polo G, and others. Rounding out the year with the G Herbo-assisted "Purpose," Calboy kicked off 2020 with the February EP Long Live the Kings. With further features from Lil Baby and Lil Tjay, the project saw the rapper continue to develop his melody-driven style.
