A Moroccan-American rapper who built an indie empire with his Cocaine City imprint, French Montana rose from the New York underground in the 2000s to emerge as a pop savvy hip-hop artist in the 2010s. Starting with debut LP Excuse My French, he became known for his high-profile collaborations and a handful of chart hits including "Unforgettable" from his 2017 sophomore release, Jungle Rules.

In 2018, Montana joined with Diplo, Lil Pump, and Zhavia Ward for the bombastic single "Welcome to the Party" from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, which returned him to the Hot 100. Additional singles -- "No Stylist" with Drake and "Slide" with Blueface and Lil Tjay -- were also chart hits, carrying Montana into 2019. Those latter tracks later landed on his third effort, which was issued toward the end of the year on the same day he was released from hospitalization in the ICU. A double-album, Montana, boasted an impressive cast of guests, including Juicy J ("50's & 100's"), Swae Lee (on the "Unforgettable" sequel "Out of Your Mind"), and Post Malone and Cardi B ("Writing on the Wall"). Upon release, the LP debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200.

Formed by the former guitarist for My Chemical Romance, Frank Iero and the Future Violents is yet another alias for the eponymous frontman's solo endeavors. This iteration -- featuring backing band guitarist Evan Nestor, bassist Matt Armstrong, drummer Tucker Rule, and Kayleigh Goldsworthy -- released the album Barriers in 2019.

Following his time with MCR and Leathermouth, the New Jersey-bred musician first unveiled his solo material under the name Frnkiero and the Cellabration, releasing the raucous hardcore punk LP Stomachaches in 2014. For his second round, Iero dubbed the project Frank Iero and the Patience and issued 2016's I'm a Mess, a raw and emotive blend of garage rock, emo punk, and hardcore. The third name change came in late 2018 and Frank Iero and the Future Violents released the album Barriers the next year. Produced by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Helmet), the set recalled Iero's early-2000s emo/hardcore heyday, corroded with some grit and grime from the '90s alt scene.

Earning his nickname with a life of crime that landed him a two-year stint in jail, Atlanta MC Trouble had just signed a recording contract when he was caught in a home invasion that ended in kidnapping and armed-robbery charges. The contract was with Duct Tape Entertainment, and Trouble (born Mariel Semonte Orr in Atlanta, Georgia) was working in the studio with label boss Big Bank Black the day the home invasion went down. He served his sentence until December 17, 2010, and a year later, he used that date as the title of his debut mixtape. In 2014, his album All on Me was released on that very same day. It marked the start of a prolific run for Trouble as he channeled his creative energy into a deluge of mixtapes including #ZayDidIt (2015), Skoob Fresh (2015), Skoobzilla (2016), and Year in 2016 (2017). His 2016 collaboration with fellow Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci, the single "Key to the Streets," reached number 70 on Billboard's Hot 100. In 2018, Trouble signed with Ear Drummer Records, issuing "Bring It Back" with Drake and Mike WiLL Made-It and another Mike WiLL single, "Real Is Rare."

Waynesboro, PA does not come to mind when you think of contributions to hip-hop, but Kimetrius “Lil Skies” Foose hopes to be that boundless rose to spring forth from the concrete.

Rapper Lil Skies was born Kimetrius Foose in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania in 1998. Interested in music from his early childhood, Foose was recording and writing lyrics by the time he was 12, and eventually took on the Lil Skies moniker when he began taking his music more seriously. When he was enrolled in Shippensburg University, he dropped out to focus on music as his fan base grew exponentially. By this time he was performing regularly, even opening for rap sensations like Fetty Wap, among others. He released several singles and videos, notably "Signs of Jealousy," which caught the attention of Atlantic Records. The major label offered Lil Skies a deal in 2017, and his debut mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose, appeared near the end of the year. The set peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200. In 2018, he was joined by Yung Pinch on the Top 100 hit "I Know You" and Rich the Kid on "Creeping." Additional non-album singles followed, leading to the release of his sophomore effort Shelby, which arrived in early 2019. The album featured appearances by Gucci Mane, Landon Cube, and Gunna.

One-half of the Queens hardcore rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga, Victor "Noreaga" Santiago met Kiam "Capone" Holley in 1992 while both were serving prison sentences. Signed to Penalty Records in 1996, the pair released a hard-hitting debut (The War Report) in June 1997, but after Holley was thrown back in jail on a parole violation, Santiago began recording a solo album. His solo debut, N.O.R.E. -- an acronym for "Niggas on the Run Eating" -- was an all-star affair, with contributions from Foxy Brown, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Jay-Z, among others. Melvin Flynt -- Da Hustler followed in 1999. His third album, God's Favorite, was delayed several times, but finally appeared in mid-2002. In 2006, he moved to the Def Jam imprint Roc la Familia and released N.O.R.E. y la Familia...Ya Tú Sabe, a mostly reggaeton album featuring guest stars like Nina Sky, Big Mato, and Daddy Yankee, but just the following year he signed to Babygrande to issue Noreality, a more-standard rap record.

From his early roots as a social media fixture based in Australia, award-winning singer and actor Troye Sivan blossomed into an international star and LGBTQ icon with his stylish electronic dance-pop and fearless image. His debut album, 2015's Blue Neighbourhood, introduced him to the pop mainstream, landing in the Billboard Top Ten with the singles "Wild" and "Youth."

In early 2018, he issued the single "My My My!," which soon went platinum in Australia and entered the U.S. Top 100. Additional singles "Bloom" and the Ariana Grande-assisted "Dance to This" followed. These tracks were included on his sophomore album, Bloom, which arrived that summer. A bold, liberated statement, Bloom also featured songwriting by Leland and Allie X, as well as production by Ariel Rechtshaid and Oscar Holter. The album reached number four on the Billboard 200. Sivan returned in April 2020 with the song "Take Yourself Home."

Equal parts rustic folk and soulful grit, Ireland's Dermot Kennedy offers his own blend of passionate, introspective songwriting in a vein similar to fellow countryman and forebear Glen Hansard. A native of County Dublin, Kennedy began writing songs in his teens, eventually releasing the EP Dancing Under Red Skies in 2013. Honing his craft over the next few years, he found viral success with his single "After Rain," which racked up millions of streams in 2016. Kennedy's follow-up EP, 2017's Doves & Ravens, signaled a more pop-oriented approach with contributions from some heavy-hitting industry players like co-songwriter Charlie Hugall (Låpsley, Florence + the Machine) and producers Stephen Kozmeniuk and Carey Willetts. In 2018, Kennedy collaborated with legendary hip-hop producer Mike Dean for his third EP, Mike Dean Presents: Dermot Kennedy, which inherited some of the poppier sounds of Doves & Ravens, as well as pulling from genres like hip-hop and R&B. The tracks from these EPs, alongside various singles, were compiled onto Dermot Kennedy, a 2019 compilation album. This was followed by two further singles, "Lost" and "Outnumbered," the latter of which marked Kennedy's debut in the U.K. Top 40 singles chart. Both of these were included on his debut album Without Fear, which was released in September that year.

Made up of vocalist Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman, New York-based duo Lion Babe craft a unique version of spacy, evocative R&B. Coining the term "futuristic nostalgia" to describe their sound, they incorporated chopped-up samples, organic instruments, and atmospheric electronics on early singles as well as their 2016 debut full-length Begin.

2017 saw them issuing new songs "Rocket" and "Hit the Ceiling" as well as remix collections for both tracks. The next year they released several new songs including "Honey Dew" and "The Wave" (featuring Leikeli47), and the next year they preceded the release of their second album with single "Western World." The album featured guest spots by Raekwon, Bilal, and the previously released single with Leikeli47, and was released in March of 2019.

Angelica Garcia - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Angelica Garcia
Added: 21-04-2020
Genre : Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert
Description : Angelica Garcia: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

This performance was recorded on Feb. 10, 2020. We will continue releasing Tiny Desk videos of shows that had already been taped. In light of current events, NPR is postponing new live tapings of Tiny Desk Concerts. In the meantime, check out Tiny Desk (home) concerts! They’re recorded by the artists in their home. It’s the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

April 15, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- Angelica Garcia decorated the Tiny Desk with colorful fabrics, orange flowers, a fuchsia dress, and a great deal of pride in what she calls her "Salva-Mex-American" heritage. Her song "Orange Flower" got my attention back in 2016, but I thought of her only as a Virginia rock and roller. Not anymore. Angelica Garcia's music in the 2020s embraces her heritage, her life growing up in Los Angeles, and the ranchero music she heard from her family. Angelica moved to Virginia at age seventeen. The songs she sings at the Tiny Desk, all from her album Cha Cha Palace, reflect the way she was seen, or more to the point, not seen, in her new home. "Jícama" captures that feeling of invisibility:

"I see you, but you don't see me
Jícama, jícama, guava tree
I been trying to tell ya but you just don't see
Like you, I was born in this country."

On the opening song, "Guadalupe," Angelica expresses respect for La Virgen de Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico, singing "I wanna be like her." Guadalupe inspires her to declare that "power isn't defined by your physique." In this Tiny Desk concert, Angelica, along with her Richmond bandmates, powerfully convey the all-important message that we are all part of this country's colorful fabric, and we all deserve to be heard.

Los Angeles-bred/Virginia-based singer/songwriter Angelica Garcia makes vibrantly eclectic indie rock, informed by her Mexican and Salvadoran roots and touching upon blues, Americana, pop, and electronic traditions. She first garnered praise for her 2016 debut album, Medicine for Birds and further developed her sound with 2020's Cha Cha Palace.

Fusing elements of indie rock, world music, and cool dance rhythms, Angel Deradoorian launched a solo career after making a name for herself collaborating with noted acts such as Dirty Projectors, Avey Tare, and Flying Lotus. Deradoorian was born on July 18, 1986, and grew up in California, not far from Sacramento. Deradoorian's parents signed her up for violin lessons when she was just five years old, but she didn't take to the instrument at that young an age; she fared better with the piano, which she began playing when she was seven. As a teenager, Deradoorian was interested in Radiohead and Elliott Smith, and began exploring the music scene in Berkeley once she was old enough to drive; at 16, she decided she wanted to make music her career. After relocating to Brooklyn, New York, Deradoorian landed her first major gig when she was hired as the touring bassist with the band Dirty Projectors as they hit the road following the release of the 2007 album Rise Above. Deradoorian appeared on Dirty Projectors' next album, 2009's Bitte Orca, and that same year she released her first solo EP under the name Deradoorian, a five-song EP called Mind Raft, produced by Dirty Projectors' leader David Longstreth. Deradoorian was also invited to lend her vocal talents to LP, the 2009 debut album from Discovery, a project founded by Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Wesley Miles of Ra Ra Riot. In addition to making guest appearances on albums by the Roots, Flying Lotus, Matmos, and Brandon Flowers, Deradoorian also joined Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, a solo project from the leader of Animal Collective. In 2015, Deradoorian released her long-awaited solo album, The Expanding Flower Planet, recorded and co-produced by Kenny Gilmore. Deradoorian guested on albums by Boots, Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam, and Avey Tare. Eternal Recurrence, her second release for Anticon, appeared in 2017.
