San Diego's As I Lay Dying are a metalcore band whose sound employs elements of melodic death, grindcore, and hooky classic metal. After initially emerging as a Christian guitar/drums/vocals trio (whose lyrics never reflected their beliefs) with their highly regarded, self-recorded full-length Beneath the Encasing of Ashes in 2001, they signed to Metal Blade and became a quintet whose brutal attack and meaty riffs drew legions of fans across the globe, making them a festival headliner. Their 2007 long-player, An Ocean Between Us, debuted at number eight on the Top 200. In 2014, the band split after vocalist Tim Lambesis was sentenced to prison for his role in a plot to kill his estranged wife. Remarkably, As I Lay Dying's members, who had previously sworn never to work with the singer again, reunited with him in 2018 and released Shaped by Fire for Nuclear Blast the following year.

While their rise to fame was somewhere between fast and meteoric, the Atlanta trio Migos are steeped in the Southern tradition of hip-hop groups, having come together over their shared love of acts like the Hot Boys and OutKast. Members Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff, who are all related, grew up together and first started making music in 2009 under the name Polo Club, with the name Migos becoming official in 2010. In 2012, they released the mixtape No Label, which featured the cut "Bando," a regional hit that caught the attention of producer Zaytoven and Kevin Lee, aka Coach K, the manager who launched the careers of Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy. The year 2013 was a whirlwind, as June saw the group drop their Young Rich N*ggas mixtape, which featured the instant hit "Versace." That same year, Coach K got them on the Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash, a popular Atlanta festival where Migos came across their newest fan, Drake. The rapper added a verse to the "Versace" remix and put the cut on his 2013 album Nothing Was the Same.

 In February 2020, Migos released "Give No Fxk" as the first track off Culture III.

Brooklyn, New York-based rapper Casanova started his career relatively late in life after spending time incarcerated for various crimes. Following a brief spell as a laborer on release from prison, he realized that music was the true path he wanted to pursue. Putting his criminal past behind him -- but using it as inspiration -- Casanova recorded his first single, "Don't Run." Released in June 2016, it quickly became a hit online, and Casanova inked a deal with Memphis Bleek's Warehouse Music. In 2017 he entered the studio to record new material, while a new remixed version of "Don't Run" appeared, featuring guest spots from Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, and Fabolous, to name but a few. After releasing his debut mixtape, Be Safe Tho, Casanova joined the Party Tour alongside Chris Brown, 50 Cent, French Montana, and several others. His debut full-length, Commissary, appeared in the summer of 2018, and included the single "Down Bitch" featuring A Boogie wit Da Hoodie. Free at Last, a collaborative EP with 30 Roc, was released in 2019, as was the solo single, "Forged in Steel" and "So Brooklyn," which featured Fabolous.

Chicago rapper Lil Durk began to catch on in the early 2010s when he was still a teenager, bringing pop touches to a raw lyrical style and helping to set the pace for the melodic sound that Chicago rap would become known for throughout the decade. His fame grew as he grappled with various legal troubles, and he managed to crack the Billboard Top 50 in 2016 with second studio album 2X as well as its 2018 follow-up, Signed to the Streets 3.

In February 2019, Lil Durk was involved with a shooting in Atlanta and faced criminal charges. While out on bail he released a new mixtape, Love Songs 4 the Streets 2, in August of that year. The 16-song project featured guest spots from 21 Savage, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, and many others. Before the year ended, Durk gathered together his OTF crew for the Family Over Everything mixtape. The core group of OTF rappers were joined on some songs by artists like NLE Choppa and Polo G.

Playing a raw, powerful blend of blues and hip-hop, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist ZZ Ward was born Zsuzsanna Eva Ward in Abington, Pennsylvania on June 2, 1986. Ward spent her childhood in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon, splitting her listening time between her father's blues collection and her brother's hip-hop records, a blend that would inform her later sound and style. She was singing in her father's blues band by the time she was 12, and by 16 she was performing with R&B and hip-hop acts in Eugene. Moving to L.A. and hoping to break into the West Coast music business, Ward's unique blend of blues, rock, hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul, as well as her multi-instrumental skills (she's proficient on guitar, piano, and harmonica), brought her a recording deal with Boardwalk Entertainment Group and Hollywood Records, and she began work on a debut album. A free mixtape, Eleven Roses, with Ward's interpretations of contemporaneous tracks by other artists, appeared in February of 2012, with an EP, Criminal, following in May. Til the Casket Drops, the completed album, showed up in October that same year. A track from the album, "Put the Gun Down," rose to number 39 on the Alternative Rock charts, while two other tunes, "Last Love Song" and "365 Days," cracked the Top 30 of the Adult Alternative charts. In 2015, Ward released the four-song EP Love and War, which was intended as a teaser for a 2016 album called This Means War, but the full-length never appeared. Instead, she worked throughout 2016 on the album that became 2017's The Storm. Preceded by the singles "The Deep" (featuring Joey Purp) and "Help Me, Mama," The Storm arrived in June 2017.

Corinne Bailey Rae is a soul-rooted contemporary R&B singer and songwriter with multiple Top Ten U.K. and U.S. albums. Displaying an interest in music from an early age, Bailey Rae studied classical violin until she acquired an electric guitar in her early teens. Inspired by such '90s alt-rock icons as L7, Veruca Salt, and Belly, Bailey Rae formed her first band, Helen. Despite developing a strong local following, the band ultimately folded and she enrolled at Leeds University to study English literature. While at school, a job at a jazz club inspired her more soul-oriented leanings and she began writing songs. Eventually, she scored a record deal with EMI and released her self-titled debut solo album in February 2006. It topped the U.K. album chart, pushed by the number two single "Put Your Records On," and reached number four on the U.S. Billboard 200. Bailey Rae earned three Grammy nominations and was nominated for as many MOBOs, two of which -- Best U.K. Female, Best U.K. Newcomer -- she won. A year later, both an expanded edition of the album and the CD/DVD set Live in London & NY appeared, and she was featured on Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning River: The Joni Letters.

Corinne Bailey Rae's second proper album, The Sea, was heavily affected by the death of her husband, saxophonist Jason Rae. Despite the traumatic events surrounding its recording, it translated into commercial success as another instant Top Ten hit in the U.K. and U.S. after its January 2010 release. She followed the Mercury Prize-nominated album early the next year with the considerably lighter The Love EP, a five-song set containing covers of songs originally recorded by the likes of Prince, Bob Marley, and Paul McCartney & Wings. Her version of Marley's "Is This Love" won a Grammy in the category of Best R&B Performance. As she worked on her third proper album, she temporarily retreated from the spotlight and remarried in 2013. In February 2016, "Been to the Moon," a collaboration with King's Paris and Amber Strother, heralded The Heart Speaks in Whispers, which arrived three months later. The album peaked at number two on the R&B charts. One year later, Bailey Rae recorded a cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist" for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.

Named after their bandleader, Danko Jones are a Canadian hard rock trio whose bluesy, punk-blasted style is rooted in the tradition of Thin Lizzy and AC/DC. Known for their high-energy live performances and humorous lyrics, the band emerged in the late 1990s and quickly made a name for themselves with their Juno-nominated sophomore effort, 2003's We Sweat Blood. Coming on the scene with stern club bangers and cold punch lines, Memphis-based rapper Young Dolph became a local hero via a series of mixtapes before breaking nationwide around 2014. Born Adolph Thornton, Jr. in Chicago, Dolph debuted in 2008 with the mixtape Paper Route Campaign. Subsequent releases like The Weed Album and South Memphis Kingpin brought him to 2012, when he dropped the first in a successful series of mixtapes dubbed High Class Street Music. By the time High Class Street Music 4 and the "Preach" single dropped in 2014, Dolph was working with major-label producers including Drumma Boy and Zaytoven. Both provided tracks for his 2016 debut LP, King of Memphis, which featured no guest artists and debuted at number 49 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. A trio of mixtapes followed, ending with Rich Crack Baby. The album entered the Billboard 200 upon release and included guest appearances by Boosie Badazz, 2 Chainz, Wale, T.I., Gucci Mane, and 21 Savage. Another mixtape, Gelato, followed in early 2017, containing the Yo Gotti diss track "Play wit Yo' Bitch," as well as tracks featuring Migos, Wiz Khalifa, and Lil Yachty. Dolph's second studio album, Bulletproof, was released in April of 2017 and reached the Top 40 of the Billboard 200. Mere months later, he issued Thinking Out Loud, which featured guest spots by DRAM, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, and Ty Dolla $ign. The album was another success, hitting number 16 on the Billboard 200. In early 2018, Dolph issued the EP Niggas Get Shot Everyday, following up later that year with the Key Glock collaboration "Major" and the solo track "By Mistake." The full-length Role Model followed later in the year; the album became Dolph's highest-charting release to date, charting at number 15 on the Billboard 200. The following year saw Dolph link up with frequent collaborator Key Glock for 2019's Dum and Dummer, the pair's first collaborative mixtape.
