Without raising his voice, Gunna became one of the fastest-rising rap artists of the late 2010s. Almost slurring and sometimes verging on a stutter, he nonetheless displayed the poise of a proven veteran from his entry on Young Thug's "Floyd Mayweather" (2016) through his early mixtapes and the Lil Baby collaboration Drip Harder (2018). After hitting the pop Top Ten with the latter, Gunna affirmed his high commercial standing with Drip or Drown 2 (2019), his album debut.

Alexander 23 emerged in 2019 with a vibe that was part heartbroken slacker and part playfully sparse, software-constructed pop on the single "Dirty AF1s."

Without revealing his identity at first (his social media featured the banner "Who is this"), Alexander 23 issued his debut single on Interscope in March 2019. He followed the release of "Dirty AF1s" with a tour of the U.S. in support of Alec Benjamin and an appearance at that August's Lollapalooza festival.

Houston rapper and Sauce Factory affiliate Sosamann represents Splashtown with club-friendly, bass-heavy songs about partying and street life. Raised in the violent Braeswood area, Sosamann spun his ability as a storyteller (he once contemplated becoming an author) into rap, hooking up with the Sauce Twinz in 2014. He appeared on their mixtape Sauce Theft Auto: Splash Andreas the following year. His own club hit "Did a Whole Lot" attracted the attention of Wiz Khalifa, who signed Sosamann to his Taylor Gang. Later, Wiz would join Sosamann on "Not the Vine" from Sosamann's full-length Sauce Eskobar. The 2016 effort also featured Young Dolph, Sauce Walka, and Sancho Saucy.

Troy Cassar-Daley is one of Australia's most popular modern country musicians. He is known for his down-to-earth charm, his duets with iconic performers such as Slim Dusty and Jimmy Barnes, and his appearances on the television show It Takes Two.

Cassar-Daley was born to an aboriginal mother and a Maltese father and spent his childhood split between them. He lived with his mother in the town of Grafton, New South Wales and with his father in Sydney. Somewhere between the two he visited the Tamworth Country Music Festival as a boy and found his life permanently changed. He taught himself the guitar and busked outside a music shop, although he only knew four songs and had to repeat them to fill the 15 minutes the store allowed him. As a teenager, Cassar-Daley formed a band called Little Eagle, which made the Top Ten finalists of Tamworth's Star Maker Quest and later won the Search for a Star competition. After touring outback Australia with Brian Young, he returned to Grafton to become lead singer of the Blue Heeler Band, filling a position vacated by James Blundell, who went on to a successful solo career.

"For my Greatest Hits collection I wanted to write something reflective about my life and others around me because that’s what songwriting is all about. I co-wrote this song with Greg Storer who added his usual understated lyrical genius bits! Thanks Greg. Looking back over this catalogue of tunes I think of times when I doubted myself and my music, felt alone, then inspired, had a beer celebrating my first Golden Guitar or ARIA Award, and I think to myself, I wouldn’t change a thing.” TCDx

Sheppard are a six-piece indie pop group from Brisbane, Australia. Formed as a duo in 2009 by siblings Amy (vocals) and George Sheppard (vocals/keys), the group slowly expanded to include their sister Emma Sheppard on bass, along with friends Jay Bovino (vocals, guitar), Michael Butler (guitar), and Dean Gordon (drums). Featuring a buoyant mix of strong harmonies and catchy, uptempo pop, the band released its self-titled debut EP in August 2012 and quickly expanded its touring horizons, playing festivals in America, South Africa, and the U.K.

By the following summer, their EP had peaked at number 18 on the Australian charts and they had been nominated for an ARIA music award. In February 2014 they issued the single "Geronimo," which shot to number one at home while also gaining traction in Europe and beyond. Prior to recording their first album, Sheppard signed with Decca Records internationally, yet remained independent in their home country. Released in July 2014, their debut LP, Bombs Away!, was a major success, reaching number two on the Australian charts before getting a worldwide release a few months later. The single "Geronimo" charted across Western Europe as well as in the U.S. and Canada, and hit number one in Australia.

The first single off their sophomore album, "We Belong," appeared in late 2016 and was followed the next spring by "Keep Me Crazy," which returned them to the Australian Top 40. Finally, in 2018, they delivered the full-length Watching the Sky, which also featured the Australian chart-topping, gold-certified single "Coming Home."

Named after a 1953 romantic comedy, London trio Dream Wife make a cheeky, sugar-coated mix of garage rock, punk, and ambient pop influenced by David Bowie and Madonna. Formed in 2014 while the members were attending art college in Brighton, Dream Wife features the talents of Iceland native Rakel Mjöll (lead vocals), Alice Go (guitar, vocals), and Bella Podpadec (bass, vocals). Initially, the group formed to play as part of an art project conceptualized around the idea of a band born out of one girl's memories of growing up in Canada in the '90s. The sound worked, and Dream Wife were soon playing other live shows, including an extended tour of Canada in 2015. In 2016, Dream Wife released their debut EP, EP1, on Cannibal Hymns. Their full-length debut arrived at the start of 2018. Dream Wife featured songs from their EP as well as singles "Somebody," "Fire," and "Let's Make Out." Having established themselves they took a more direct approach to making a point on their second album, 2020's So When You Gonna..., which took aim at the gender disparity in the music industry by working with an all-women recording team, including producer Marta Salogni (Holy Herndon, FKA Twigs), engineer Grace Banks (Marika Hackman), and mastering engineer Heba Kadry (Princess Nokia, Beach House).

Frances Quinlan - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Frances Quinlan
Added: 20-05-2020
Genre : Rock & Alternative, Live In Concert
Description : Frances Quinlan: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Feb. 18, 2020 | Marissa Lorusso -- This performance was recorded on March 2, 2020. We will continue releasing Tiny Desk videos of shows that had already been taped. In light of current events, NPR is postponing new live tapings of Tiny Desk Concerts. In the meantime, check out Tiny Desk (home) concerts! They’re recorded by the artists in their home. It’s the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

Frances Quinlan showed up to NPR HQ in Washington, D.C., in February, just after Presidents' Day — which explains her multiple mid-performance jokes about White House residents. But even if her Tiny Desk concert had happened in July, the allusions wouldn't have surprised me. As a songwriter, Quinlan is piercingly astute at making connections between her present reality and the wider world; her songs often narrate other stories she's heard, fictional or real, from a place of wide-eyed empathy. (It's unclear, however, whether George Washington's teeth — the subject of one such mid-set digression — have made it into one of her songs.)

Quinlan is a Tiny Desk veteran, having played here in 2015 with her indie-rock band, Hop Along. You could argue she has even more Tiny Desk experience than that; as Quinlan pointed out during her set, a can of Hop Along-branded beer has been sitting on the Tiny Desk shelves through numerous previous concerts, including Lizzo's.

This time around, she performed songs from her debut solo album, Likewise. She was accompanied by two musicians who played on Likewise: her Hop Along bandmate Joe Reinhart, on bass and guitar, and Molly Germer on violin, and their quiet accompaniment suited her expressive, introspective songs. Quinlan has the kind of voice that can pack an emotional punch in a whisper or expand to fill a room, and her songs seem to carry their own velocity – lurching forward and drawing back, with unique melodies that unfurl in unexpected and satisfying directions. At the Tiny Desk, it was a delight to watch it all unfold.

Camera...

"Making Plans for Nigel" is a song by the English rock band XTC that was released as the opening track and lead single from their 1979 album Drums and Wires. It was written by Colin Moulding, the band's bassist. The lyrics are told from the point of view of parents who are certain that their son Nigel is "happy in his work", affirming that his future in British Steel "is as good as sealed", and that he "likes to speak and loves to be spoken to."

The single marked XTC's commercial breakthrough. It spent 11 weeks on the UK Singles Chart and peaked within the top 17 (the exact peak position is unknown due to a computing error by the chart compilers). As a response to the song, British Steel gathered four Sheffield employees named Nigel to talk about job satisfaction for the trade publication Steel News. In 2016, the song was ranked number 143 on the Pitchfork website's list of the 200 best songs of the 1970s.[
