New York rapper Jay Critch began writing rhymes when he was in grade school, and he was making music full-time by the end of his teenage years. High-profile collaborations with better-known rappers Rich the Kid and PnB Rock brought him more attention, and his charismatic, decidedly East Coast style helped his steady stream of solo singles rise in popularity. Critch's music existed mostly in the form of singles and remixes for the first few years of his career, until his debut studio album, Hood Favorite, was released in late 2018.

‘The End’ from The 1975’s new album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’. Out now - https://ift.tt/2LXwHg8

The 1975 and Ben Ditto have curated an online exhibition of 15 artists responding to tracks from ‘NOACF’.
02 Demon Sanctuary responds to ‘The End’.

Robobotanist and AI artist Demon Sanctuary’s (David Atlas) latest piece is a poetic, introspective interpretation of the soaring orchestral track ‘The End’. “Can we create self-sustaining machines?” wonders Atlas. “First we must make ourselves self-sustaining. To me this song touches heavily on this. It has a hopeful hopelessness about it.”

His film is made using a form of AI known as a Generative Adversarial Network, or GAN, comprised of two neural networks competing against each other and learning to generate new data from a training set. Atlas has trained his GAN on a visual storytelling dataset full of photographs of our natural world, resulting in these computer-generated morphing forms that look realistic but also a little off; that have an otherworldly uncanniness about them. “Essentially,” Atlas says, he’s “trying to trick a GAN into being creative.”

The resulting film is an orgy of conditional forms: of budding shapes bursting forth, hyperreal textures melting in and out of the screen and decomposing silhouettes in Earthy tones. As the song nears its crescendo, the screen splits in two and flowers bloom on both sides:

“Two flowers dance together but can never really meet after a storm; perhaps during which they had touched for a number of brief, almost violent moments.”

Atlas has designed an artificially conscious artist and taught it to dream up new lifeforms. To the sound of swelling strings, he shows us machine-made visions of things no person has ever seen before.
Furthermore, Atlas has also trained his GAN on a dataset of images of sea slugs and generated a suite of hyperbolic renderings of 3D “Ganflowers”, which he’s combined into a quadruped exclusively for The 1975: this can be viewed as a 3D object, and downloaded for 3D printing, on the exhibition microsite that opens on 6th June, 2020.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is the fifth release of The Rolling Stones music by former manager Allen Klein's ABKCO Records (who gained control of the band's Decca/London material in 1970) after the band's departure from Decca and Klein. Released in 1996, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a live album that captures the taping of their ill-fated 1968 TV special, which was not broadcast until almost two decades later.

-----

Besetzung
Peter Coyne - lead vocals
Richie Simpson - guitar, vocals
Wayne Vermaak - guitar, vocals
Jon Priestley - bass, vocals
Billy Duncanson - drums, vocals

Arriving nearly a decade after the first rise of U.K. punk, London's the Godfathers were a band that shrewdly embraced punk's hard-edged sound and outlook while adding elements of hard rock, R&B, and pop. As a consequence, they gave their music a level of craft and polish that made them accessible without blunting the rage in their best work.

In 2017 the band's latest lineup of lead vocalist Peter Coyne, guitarists Steve Crittal and Mauro Venegas, bassist Darren Birch, and drummer Tim James delivered a studio album of all new material, A Big Bad Beautiful Noise.

Lionel Loueke - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert (From The Archives)" [Blues & Jazz, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert (From The Archives)

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert (From The Archives)" music video by Lionel Loueke
Added: 25-05-2020
Genre : Blues & Jazz, Live In Concert
Description : Lionel Loueke: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert From The Archives

Patrick Jarenwattananon | April 26, 2010

Listen to any Lionel Loueke record long enough, and you'll wonder, "How did he make that noise?" The West African-born jazz guitarist has developed an extensive palette of sounds, experimenting with low tunings, fast finger techniques, nylon strings, acoustic and electric axes, even jamming paper in his strings. And he also sings — or, more accurately, vocalizes. The clicks, wet smacks, the singing-along-to-his-solos, even the spasmodic speaking-in-tongues exhortations; he says they just come naturally to him.

Naturally, when Loueke's trio came to Washington, D.C., earlier this year, we asked him to demonstrate his toolkit in a Tiny Desk Concert. The Tiny Desk is a pretty tiny desk, but it still felt a bit unfair to the rest of his band. The group is led by Loueke almost in name only; the drummer and bassist both compose for the group, and their input has shaped Loueke's language, even apart from the trio, for more than 10 years of playing together.

Luckily, the trio arrived at our cramped stage, whereupon drummer Ferenc Nemeth shrugged and declared, "Yeah, I'll play." I asked him whether I could get him a snare drum or cymbal stands or anything, and he waved me off, pulling out bells, bundle sticks and a little rig set up around a hand drum and a jangly tambourine. Game on.

Nemeth and Loueke treated us to impromptu duet versions of "Vi Ma Yon" — a traditional song that appears on Loueke's latest, Mwaliko — and another tune from the group's songbook, "Merci." (Their recording of Wayne Shorter's "Nefertiti," which doesn't appear on this page, will be available on A Blog Supreme this week.) Jammy and exploratory, it felt like jazz with West African accents — or was it West African music with jazz sensibilities? See and hear for yourself.

Blending traditions from his native Benin with harmonically complex post-bop jazz and fusion, West African guitarist Lionel Loueke has earned praise for his solo work as well as his varied collaborations. Initially emerging as a sideman on Terence Blanchard's Bounce in 2003, Loueke quickly found himself in demand, appearing on a bevy of albums including bassist Charlie Haden's 2004 effort Land of the Sun as well as a pair of noteworthy 2007 releases, Kendrick Scott's The Source and Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning River: The Joni Letters. His own albums, like 2006's Virgin Forest, 2010's Mwaliko, and 2015's Gaia, have showcased his expansive, globally minded aesthetic, marked by his emotive jazz solos and a deep understanding of African folk customs.

Swedish hard rock band H.E.A.T made their album debut in 2008 yet didn't break into the mainstream until the following year, after a strong showing at the 2009 Melodifestivalen with the smash hit "1000 Miles." Founded in 2007 in Upplands Väsby, the band initially consisted of Kenny Leckremo (vocals), Dave Dalone (guitar), Eric Rivers (guitar), Jona Tee (keyboards), Jimmy Jay (bass), and Crash (drums). After signing a recording deal with the label StormVox, the band made its full-length debut in 2008 with the eponymous album H.E.A.T. The band's strong showing in Melodifestivalen drove H.E.A.T up the albums chart, all the way to the Top Ten with "1000 Miles" in the Top Five. Their 2010 follow-up, Freedom Rock, received a ranking by Classic Rock Magazine U.K. as one of the Top 50 albums of the year. It would also turn out to be the last for Leckremo, who was soon replaced by Erik Grönwall on lead vocals. Grönwall made his debut on 2012's Address the Nation, which again fared well with critics, making the Top Ten lists of several magazines. By 2014, founding guitarist Dalone had also left the group, and the remaining bandmembers delivered Tearing Down the Walls, further honing their hard-edged, melodic rock sound. To document their 2014 headlining tour of Europe, H.E.A.T recorded a set at The Garage in London, leading to the release of their first concert album, Live in London, in early 2015. Following Rivers' departure in October 2016, former guitarist Dave Dalone returned to H.E.A.T to help them record 2017's Into the Great Unknown.

Memphis rapper NLE Choppa rose to fame almost overnight on the back of a viral hit and a charismatic social media presence. At just 16, the rapper was fielding record deal offers from major labels, sometimes with advances in the millions. Ever the entrepreneur, NLE Choppa turned down the contracts, opting instead for a distribution deal that allowed him to keep the rights to his music. With just a few punchy tracks to his name, the young rapper was already world famous by early 2019, with streaming numbers in the millions.

NLE Choppa was born Bryson Potts in 2002. Raised in a rough part of Memphis, Potts focused on basketball when growing up but began freestyling with friends at age 14. The next year he decided to take his music to the next level, entering the studio and putting down raps inspired by Southern rappers like NBA Youngboy, Meek Mill, and Lil Wayne. He first went under the name YNR Choppa and released several tracks under that moniker. He soon switched over to using the name NLE Choppa, the NLE standing for his brand "No Love Entertainment." Along with other teenage rapper friends he posted several videos, some gaining traction regionally. It was his January 2019 single, "Shotta Flow," that broke through worldwide, with an exciting and boisterous video accumulating tens of millions of views in a matter of months. From there, major-label interest began, but Choppa turned all offers down, keeping ownership of his songs. He spent most of 2019 releasing new singles, including installments like "I Don't Need No Help," "Shotta Flow 2," "Shotta Flow 3," and "Camelot." These culminated in his debut EP, Cottonwood, which arrived in November that year.

After a decade long hiatus, iconic Australian band Powderfinger tuned up and gave a little happiness to fans during these challenging days.

The title signifies the one off nature of this event and points towards the very important charities the band are supporting, Beyond Blue and Support Act.

With millions of album sales in Australia alone, Powderfinger continue to captivate millions of listeners every month across streaming services and radio.

In April 2010 Powderfinger announced they were calling it a day. The band embarked on their Sunsets Farewell Tour, playing to over 300 000 people along the way, and on 13 November 2010 they played their last gig, until now…

One Night Lonely presented by Secret Sounds, Universal Music Australia, YouTube and supports Beyond Blue and Support Act.

Lankum - "Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" [World & Reggae, Live In Concert]

Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

"Live @ NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert" music video by Lankum
Added: 25-05-2020
Genre : World & Reggae, Live In Concert
Description : Lankum: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

This performance was recorded on March 6, 2020. We will continue releasing Tiny Desk videos of shows that had already been taped. In light of current events, NPR is postponing new live tapings of Tiny Desk Concerts. In the meantime, check out Tiny Desk (home) concerts! They’re recorded by the artists in their home. It’s the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

May 18, 2020 | Bob Boilen -- Lankum's journey from Ireland to the Tiny Desk was a wild and bumpy adventure. First, visa problems forced them to cancel their late February date. A week later, much of the world is more worried about COVID-19, though daily patterns here hadn't changed. They arrived in New York, hopped in their van to Washington, D.C., only to have that break down. Finally, after all that, some good news: While in their new van heading to the Tiny Desk, the Dublin quartet received news that its brilliant album The Livelong Day had won Ireland's Choice Music Prize Album of the Year!

All of this was a build-up to a Tiny Desk concert I'll never forget. I, too, am a massive fan of the drones from the uilleann pipes, harmonium, concertina and the stunning voice of Radie Peat. The Livelong Day to my ears has as much in common with Irish tradition as it does to electronic music, though everything they do is acoustic. But the power and heft of what brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch, Cormac MacDiarmada, and Radie Peat convey through their reeds, strings, and vocals are deeply stirring emotionally and have stuck with me all these months since this concert's recording.

A week later I saw Lankum in concert. It was the last one I attended in a real venue and the world was rapidly changing. Their journey home, I trust, was frightening. The idea of getting on a plane was so very different from just a few weeks before. I know it was tough, but I'm ever so grateful for this life experience and grateful to be able to share it here.
