A melodic power/death/folk metal band delving into Viking legends for lyrical inspiration, Helsinki, Finland's Ensiferum (Latin for "sword bearer") had to continually coexist with various simultaneous metal projects undertaken by its members. Founded in 1995 by guitarist Markus Toivonen, Ensiferum worked up a number of demo tapes before finally attracting the attention of Finland's powerhouse metal label Spinefarm, which released their eponymous debut in 2001. The sophomore Iron followed in 2004, and both albums featured vocalist Jari Mäenpää, bassist Jukka-Pekka Miettinen, keyboardist Meiju Enho, drummer Oliver Fokin, and of course Toivonen. Many of these were active in black/dark metal act Arthemesia at the same time, and Mäenpää subsequently announced his departure to start a new band called Wintersun. More lineup changes occurred before the release of the band's third LP, Victory Songs, in 2007. The following year saw Ensiferum headlining the Paganfest tour in Europe and North America, and in 2009 they released a new album, From Afar. 2012 saw the release of the group's fifth studio long-player, Unsung Heroes, and in 2015 the band issued their Metal Blade debut, One Man Army. In early 2017, the band issued the single "For Those About to Fight for Metal," in anticipation of the release of their seventh full-length outing, Two Paths, which arrived later that June.

A near mythic band in the doom metal scene, Sorcerer was founded in 1988, but outside of a pair of legendary demos, the band wouldn't release a proper album until 2015. Formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1988 around the talents of John Hagel, Tommy Karlsson, and Peter Furulid (vocalist Anders Engberg and guitarist Mats Liedholm joined the following year), the band issued a demo (Anno 1503) in 1989. A second demo followed in 1992 (both were extremely well-received in the metal community), but the band soon splintered and disbanded (Hagel went on to join Tiamat). John Perez of Solitude Aeternus made both demos available through his own Brainticket Records in 1995, but it would be 15 years before fans would hear any real news about the underground doom rockers. In 2010, Hagel assembled a new version of the group, which included Engberg, Therion guitarist Kristian Niemann, Six Feet Under guitarist Ola Englund, and drummer Robert Iversen, and performed live at the Hammer of Doom Festival in Germany, and in 2011, Perez reissued the original Sorcerer demos on CD with previously unreleased material. By now the seeds had been sown for a Sorcerer resurrection, and the band began discussing plans to a record a proper debut album. Englund left the group in 2012 to join Six Feet Under and was replaced by Peter Hallgren (Rob Rock), and in 2015 the band issued their long-awaited debut studio long-player In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross via Metal Blade Records. A sophomore effort, The Crowning of the Fire King, arrived two years later, again with the support of Metal Blade.

Bob Mould began his career as one of the angry upstarts of the hardcore punk scene, and over several decades he's matured into one of the elder statesmen of alternative rock without giving up his integrity, his intelligence, or the fierce passion of his best music. In the early '80s, Mould emerged as one of the founding members of Hüsker Dü, a Minneapolis-based punk band that blended furiously fast tempos with pop melodic structures on influential, groundbreaking albums like 1984's Zen Arcade and 1985's New Day Rising. After the breakup of Hüsker Dü, Mould launched a solo career with 1989's introspective, largely acoustic Workbook, but soon returned to a hard, angry sound on 1990's Black Sheets of Rain. In 1992, Mould formed another band, Sugar, who picked up where the pop-oriented sound of Hüsker Dü left off on albums like 1992's Copper Blue and 1994's File Under: Easy Listening. After Sugar split up in 1995, Mould returned to solo work, dividing his time between guitar-oriented efforts like 1998's The Last Dog and Pony Show and projects like 2002's Modulate that reflected his growing interest in electronic music. Mould walked a middle ground between the two styles on 2008's District Line, but with 2012's Silver Age, he re-committed himself to fluid but aggressive rock, and it was the first in a series of albums that reaffirmed his status as one of indie rock's strongest talents.

A singer and songwriter who makes an assertive, atmospheric brand of electro-pop, Eves Karydas is the stage alias of Hannah Karydas, formerly known as Eves the Behavior. Born and raised in Cairns, Australia until her family relocated to Brisbane during her early teens, she learned at the age of 15 that she had synesthesia -- in her case, the ability to hear sounds and see them as colors. Until then, she had assumed the experience was commonplace. Karydas relocated again at the age of 18 in 2015, this time to London, England to actively pursue a career in music. That same year, the Dew Process label released her self-titled debut EP as Eves the Behavior.

After rebranding herself Eves Karydas, she reemerged in 2017 with "There for You," a single co-produced by Chris Zane (Passion Pit, St. Lucia).

At the same time I’m feeling the frustration & anger of my brothers and sisters who are all devastated and fed up with police brutality and the mistreatment of our people. George Floyd and countless others im so sorry You deserve better, we deserve better.

As a black man who’s struggled with feelings of unworthiness and lack in the past My message has also been to push myself & the people forward, from fear too love ..from self to selflessness.. from nothing to something I will continue to use my platform to uplift & remind my people of our internal power! #LOVE

MR.HOOD OUT NOW EVERYWHERE!

Troy Cassar-Daley is one of Australia's most popular modern country musicians. He is known for his down-to-earth charm, his duets with iconic performers such as Slim Dusty and Jimmy Barnes, and his appearances on the television show It Takes Two.

Cassar-Daley was born to an aboriginal mother and a Maltese father and spent his childhood split between them. He lived with his mother in the town of Grafton, New South Wales and with his father in Sydney. Somewhere between the two he visited the Tamworth Country Music Festival as a boy and found his life permanently changed. He taught himself the guitar and busked outside a music shop, although he only knew four songs and had to repeat them to fill the 15 minutes the store allowed him. As a teenager, Cassar-Daley formed a band called Little Eagle, which made the Top Ten finalists of Tamworth's Star Maker Quest and later won the Search for a Star competition. After touring outback Australia with Brian Young, he returned to Grafton to become lead singer of the Blue Heeler Band, filling a position vacated by James Blundell, who went on to a successful solo career.

Birds of Tokyo are an alternative rock band from Australia who rose to domestic mainstream success with their second album, Universes (2008). Founded in 2004 in Perth, Western Australia, the band originally comprised Karnivool's Ian Kenny (vocals), Adam Spark (guitar), Anthony Jackson (bass), and Adam Weston (drums). Birds of Tokyo made their recording debut in 2005 with a pair of EPs (Birds of Tokyo, One Way/Stay) released in association with the independent label Egg Records. The song "Stay" earned the band its first of many WAMi Awards (West Australian Music Industry Awards), this one for Rock Song of the Year. Two years later, Birds of Tokyo released their full-length album debut, Day One (2007), and won a pair of WAMi Awards (Favorite Newcomer, Best Male Vocalist). Their second album, Universes (2008), marked their mainstream breakthrough, peaking at number three on the Australian albums chart and spawning a pair of singles ("Silhouettic," "Broken Bones").

The band's eponymously titled third album was released by EMI in July of 2010, included the hit singles “Plans” and “Wild at Heart,” and went on to receive double-platinum certifications. Following this success, the Australian music industry accolades continued to flood in. These included APRA awards for songwriting and a “Most Popular Australian Artist” award at the 2011 ARIA ceremony. Ahead of sessions in Los Angeles for a fourth album with David Cooley and Tony Hoffer, Birds of Tokyo brought two new players into the fold: Glenn Sarangapany on keyboards and Ian Berney who replaced Jackson on bass. Also prior to these sessions, Kenny, Spark, and Weston each left Perth behind, relocating to cities on the eastern coast of Australia. The resulting record, March Fires, was appropriately released in March 2013 and became the band's first album to hit the number one spot in the Australian charts, eventually going gold. The success of March Fires opened up new doors for the band internationally, and they spent much of 2014 in the U.S. with Los Angeles as their temporary home base. In between U.S. tours, they wrote and recorded four new songs which were released in April 2015 as the standalone EP Anchor. Brace, the band's dark and gritty fifth studio long-player, dropped the following year.
