The deftly executed modern pop of New South Wales singer/songwriter Fergus James hit the Australian airwaves and charts with the release of his debut single, "Golden Age."

Hailing from the small country town of Armidale, NSW, James grew up on a wide range of music, from Dire Straits to Bruce Springsteen, yet developed a penchant for the fingerpicking folk of artists such as Bon Iver and Passenger. With his parents realizing his talent, James enrolled at the Newtown High School of Performing Arts in Sydney in 2016. While there, he performed an original song in front of Justin Timberlake, and a video of the pop star's response to his music subsequently went viral. As a result, James graduated from school with the music industry ready to sign him. At the beginning of 2018, he released his debut single, "Golden Age," with support from national station Triple J, and the track amassed numerous plays and hit the charts. Support slots for Ed Sheeran's Australian tour followed, and James issued his second single, "What Are We Waiting For," later that year.

U.K. rock quartet the Amazons formed in 2014. Playing an arena-sized brand of indie that combines the grandeur of Arcade Fire with the muscle of Nirvana, the Amazons crafted catchy, melodic anthems built for singalongs. At the time of their formation, vocalist Matt Thomson, guitarist Chris Alderton, and bassist Elliot Briggs were already in a group together, but when they recruited Josef "Joe" Emmet -- who is also a bassist -- on drums, the Reading band was born. Building a grassroots following in their local scene, Thomson, then working at a supermarket, would slip demo CDs into shoppers' baskets. Their debut EP, 2015's Don't You Wanna, was produced by Catherine Marks, who'd previously worked with Wolf Alice and White Lies. It included the insistent rocker "Ultraviolet" and the crunching "Junk Food Forever." Even though they only had one EP under their belts, the Amazons were brought on a short European tour with the Kooks, which helped expose them to a wider audience. In March 2016, they released the urgent single "Stay with Me," and their eponymous debut album followed in 2017. Future Dust, the band's sophomore studio effort, arrived in 2019.

Ungodly Hour is the second studio album and fifth release by American R&B duo Chloe x Halle, released through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records on June 12, 2020. It serves as the follow up to The Kids Are Alright (2018). Originally scheduled for a June 5 release, the album was pushed back to June 12 as a way of showing respect and support to the Black Lives Matter movement. However, it was made available on streaming services on June 11. Ahead of the album's release, two singles were released, "Catch Up" (with Swae Lee featuring Mike Will Made-It) and "Do It", the latter of which is their most successful single to date. "Forgive Me" was announced as the third single and released alongside a music video on June 12.

A sprightly pop band from the Camden borough of London, Kawala found success in 2018 when their percussive indie folk-inflected single "Do It Like You Do" became a streaming hit. Thanks to their bright, melodic style, they have earned comparisons to bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and Glass Animals.

Kawala were initially formed as an acoustic duo by singer Jim Higson and guitarist/singer Daniel McCarthy, who studied music together at university in Leeds before heading back to North London to immerse themselves in the local music scene. A 2015 appearance on the popular Mahogany Sessions video series raised their profile significantly, and they soon fleshed out the band with the addition of lead guitarist Dan Lee, bassist Reeve Coulson, and drummer Ben Batten.

Kawala issued their debut single, "Small Death," in 2017, following it in early 2018 with "Do It Like You," becoming a streaming success in the process. As Kawala picked up steam throughout 2018, they began making festival appearances at Live at Leeds and The Great Escape, eventually releasing their debut EP, D.I.L.Y.D., later that summer on Mahogany Records.

With his slicked-back hair and leather jacket, G-Eazy was known as "the James Dean of rap" when he debuted in the late 2000s. Armed with bars that detailed hedonistic excess and conflicted inner turmoil, he steadily climbed the charts in the 2010s on the strength of his hit duet with Bebe Rexha, "Me, Myself & I," from his major-label debut, 2014's These Things Happen. He repeated that success in 2017 with third album The Beautiful & Damned, which paired him with Halsey on the platinum "Him & I," and A$AP Rocky and Cardi B on the Top Four hit "No Limit."

 Eazy's 2019 output included the EP B-Sides, the single "West Coast" featuring Blueface, and a bevy of features on tracks by Chris Brown, Carnage, and T-Pain. He closed the year with a second EP, Scary Nights, which recruited Moneybagg Yo, French Montana, Miguel, and others.

Coming into the spotlight at the tender age of 18, Florida rapper/R&B vocalist YK Osiris was quickly discovered by the higher ranks of the music industry after self-releasing just a few of his songs online. After quickly signing a deal with Def Jam on the strength of his 2018 single "Valentine," the young artist plotted out the next steps of his career, the first of which was working hard on a debut album.

Osiris Williams was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1998. Growing up with a passion for old-school soul, classic R&B, and modern pop and rap sounds, he started making music of his own at a young age. He first uploaded songs under the name Osiris, posting his single, "Fake Love," in 2017 before taking on the YK Osiris moniker for future productions. "I'm Next (Freestyle)" was released in January of 2018, quickly going viral and collecting millions of streams. The buzz around the young rapper began to draw attention from the record industry and this interest was further stoked by the release of his next single, "Valentine," two months later. "Valentine" was an even bigger hit, amassing over nine million streams within several weeks of its release. A remix version of the song featuring a cameo from Li'l Uzi Vert appeared shortly thereafter, and YK Osiris fielded offers from various labels, eventually signing with Def Jam. His single "Timing" was released in July of 2018, followed by "Run It Up" and the Big40 collaboration "Ride 4 Me." In early 2019, he entered the Billboard Hot 100 with "Worth It." That song, along with another single, "Shakira," later appeared on Osiris' debut album, The Golden Child, in October of that year.

Singer and songwriter Luke Bryan comes by his country influences naturally: he grew up in Leesburg, Georgia, a small town 100 miles from the Alabama border where his father grew peanuts and sold fertilizer for a living. Bryan helped his family work the farm when he was young, but in his early teens he developed a passion for country music, picking up his influences from his parents' record collection, listening to the likes of George Strait, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, Alan Jackson, and Merle Haggard. When he was 14, his folks bought him his first guitar, and a year later, his playing and singing were strong enough that he started sitting in with local bands at a club featuring live country music. At 16, Bryan started writing songs with the help of a pair of local tunesmiths who had enjoyed some success in Nashville; he planned to head to Music City to try his luck after graduating from high school until his brother died in an auto accident. Wanting to offer emotional support to his family, Bryan opted to attend Georgia Southern University instead, though he didn't give up music. He continued writing songs, formed a band, and was playing gigs on campus or at nearby watering holes most weekends while pursuing his studies. He recorded a self-released album, which he sold at shows during this period, but was reluctant to take the plunge and devote himself to music full-time until he returned home to work in the family business after receiving his degree. Bryan's dad, confident of his son's talent, made him an offer: he could either move to Nashville or be fired.

Aversions Crown is a deathcore band from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The sextet -- featuring three eight-string guitarists -- formed in 2010, and with producer Andy Marsh (Thy Art Is Murder), and quickly recorded a debut album called Servitude, which the band self-released the following year. Servitude earned the attention of Nuclear Blast, which signed the band and released Tyrant -- also produced by Marsh -- in 2014. The band supported the record with tours in Australia, often taking a supporting role, and during this time the lineup shifted somewhat. By 2017's Xenocide, Aversions Crown settled into a lineup featuring guitarists Chris Cougan, Hayden, and Me; bassist Jay; drummer Jayden Mason, and singer Mark Poida.

California's Matt Costa is a singer/songwriter whose tuneful songs combine his love of '60s folk, the British Invasion, '70s AM pop, and '80s college rock. Beginning with a reissue of his 2005 debut LP a year later, Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records released his first four albums, including 2008's Unfamiliar Faces, his Billboard 200 debut. After having several of his songs licensed for film and television, Costa wrote and performed songs and instrumental pop tracks for the documentary Orange Sunshine in 2016.

Beginning in February 2016, he released a series of five self-produced, acoustic-leaning EPs over 12 months: Eucalyptus, Cat Mosta, Neon Brain, Live in London, and Anchor & the Albatross. Also in 2016, Costa supplied the soundtrack to Orange Sunshine, an award-winning documentary about infamous '60s and '70s LSD suppliers the Brotherhood of Love. He then signed with Dangerbird Records and returned with his fifth official solo LP, Santa Rosa Fangs, in 2018. A mix of biographical and fictional stories about his home state of California, it was co-produced by Costa, Peter Matthew Bauer (the Walkmen), and Nick Stumpf (French Kicks).

Chicago native Lil Zay Osama delivers hard-hitting raps about his harsh, violent upbringing, tempered with Auto-Tune-heavy singing as heard on tracks like the 2019 single "Changed Up."

Born in the South Side of Chicago in 2000, Zay's early years were turbulent and filled with legal troubles. After serving a three-year jail sentence, Zay decided to take music-making more seriously, having already started to rap before serving his term. Singles such as "Way Better" and "We Ride" appeared in 2018, and by the end of the year, Meek Mill had namechecked Zay as an artist to watch. "Changed Up" was released late in the year, and it became his breakthrough hit, racking up over 16 million views in the following months. Zay was signed by Warner Bros., which picked up "Changed Up" in March of 2019 and issued follow-up "Trencherous" a month later.

I came across the song “Dear Mr. President” by P!nk and realized so many of the lyrics are STILL relevant today. This song was originally released 14 years ago. I hope this song drives people to VOTE because Trump is a symbol of racism and we are facing the impending doom of his re-election. In order for us to follow through, he needs to be replaced. Known for acting roles including Zoe Vaughn on MTV's Scream series, Kiana Ledé has also been active as a pop and R&B vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from a young age.

After landing a contract with major-label RCA by winning Kidz Bop's Kidz Star USA talent competition in 2011, she made her recording debut soon after with "Do the Mermaid" for an animated film. "Hey Chica," her first single, followed in 2012 and appeared on the soundtrack for the second Smurfs movie. For a few years, Ledé was visible more as an actor than a singer. Signed to Orange Factory Music, she began recording piano ballads (including covers of contemporary hits), as heard on the 2015 EP Soulfood Sessions. A year later, she issued the holiday-themed Christmas by Ledé.

SelflessA series of singles, including "I Choose You" and "FairPlay," arrived on the UMG-distributed Republic label during 2017, with a remix of the latter track landing on her third effort, Selfless, which was released in 2018. That year, Ledé starred in the Netflix comedy All About the Washingtons with Rev Run and his wife, Justine Simmons. A remix of the Selfless album track "EX," with rapper Lil Baby, was issued in early 2019, followed later in the year by the EP Myself. In April 2020, she released her full-length debut, KiKi. Ledé co-wrote all the tracks on the album, which was executive produced by Mike Woods and featured appearances by Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, 6LACK, and Moneybagg Yo.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 (colloquially known as the Appassionata, meaning "passionate" in Italian) is among the three famous piano sonatas of his middle period (the others being the Waldstein, Op. 53 and Les Adieux, Op. 81a); it was composed during 1804 and 1805, and perhaps 1806, and was dedicated to Count Franz von Brunswick. The first edition was published in February 1807 in Vienna.

Unlike the early Sonata No. 8, Pathétique, the Appassionata was not named during the composer's lifetime, but was so labelled in 1838 by the publisher of a four-hand arrangement of the work.

One of his greatest and most technically challenging piano sonatas, the Appassionata was considered by Beethoven to be his most tempestuous piano sonata until the twenty-ninth piano sonata (known as the Hammerklavier). 1803 was the year Beethoven came to grips with the irreversibility of his progressively deteriorating hearing.

Signed to Polydor, she had her second single, "My Boy My Town," out by the end of 2015. Shortly after that, she was nominated in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll (won by Jack Garratt). In 2017, she delivered the mixtape Ivy to Roses, which included the platinum-certified single "Finders Keepers," featuring Kojo Funds. After opening for Harry Styles on his 2018 European tour, she joined Jax Jones and Rich the Kid on hit single "Ring Ring" before issuing her single "One Shot." Early the following year, her single "Don't Call Me Up" became an international hit, rising into the Top 10 across Europe and attracting viral attention in the U.S. The track was featured on the reissue of Ivy to Roses, which added six tracks to the original.

English quintet Blossoms burst onto the British scene in the 2010s, quickly rising from local clubs to festival stages within a few short years. Their breakthrough debut landed in 2016 after years of anticipation, topping charts and winning fans with a catchy, synth-forward blend of Brit-pop and indie rock heard on songs like hit single "Charlemagne." Incorporating more new wave influences on their follow-up, 2018's Cool Like You, the band maintained their presence on U.K. charts and on the touring circuit. By the end of the decade, they were selling out shows, including one at a hometown stadium. The group entered a new decade in 2020 with their third LP, the lovelorn Foolish Loving Spaces.

"Landslide" is a song written by Stevie Nicks and performed by British-American music group Fleetwood Mac. It was first featured on the band's self-titled 1975 album, Fleetwood Mac. The original recording also appears on the compilation albums 25 Years – The Chain (1992) and The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac (2002), while a live version was released as a single 23 years later from the live reunion album The Dance. It reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. "Landslide" was certified Gold in October 2009 for sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States. According to Nielsen Soundscan, "Landslide" sold 1,315,950 copies in the United States as of February 2013.

English twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas made chart history when their second album, Cartwheels, became the first country record by a British act ever to top the U.K. album chart, beating the long-established Jamie T to the top spot. Born in 1994 and brought up on a farm in rural Hampshire, the girls attended a local convent school and were turned on to country music as teenagers when a friend played them the Dixie Chicks. Both talented singers and instrumentalists, they started writing together while in the sixth form, bringing a uniquely British perspective to the genre.

In 2016 they signed to Sony for the release of their second album, Cartwheels. While parts of the album, particularly the gorgeous title track, stayed true to the traditionalist sound of their debut, it often strayed significantly from "pure" country; some tracks bore the stamp of Fleetwood Mac's country-rock-influenced Rumours, while others were just contemporary pop/rock. The girls' songwriting knack was undiminished, however, and the British public voted with their wallets, sending the album to number one and officially making Ward Thomas the most successful British country act ever. The duo's third album, Restless Minds, followed in 2019 and saw them move even farther away from traditional country toward the electro-pop-rock sound of artists like Taylor Swift.

Employing a sinister blend of goth-metal and dark industrial rock, Germany's Lord of the Lost was founded in 2007 by vocalist/guitarist Chris Harms, who had previously fronted Hamburg-based gloom-rockers Philiae. The group released its first studio LP, Fears, in 2010, with Antagony arriving the following year. 2012's Die Tomorrow saw the band crack the German charts for the first time, paving the way for subsequent successes like From the Flame Into the Fire (2014), Swan Songs (2015), Empyrean (2016), and Swan Songs, Vol. 2 (2017).

Legally blind from birth, Brazilian keyboard player, composer and bandleader Manfredo Fest learnt to read music in braille and began studying classical music at a young age. By 17 he had fallen in love with jazz (particularly the music of fellow blind pianist George Shearing) before becoming swept up in Rio's emergent bossa nova movement in the sixties. Moving to the States in 1967 where he would go on to work with fellow countryman Sergio Mendes, Fest recorded and self-released Brazilian Dorian Dream in 1976, enlisting Thomas Kini (bass), Alejo Poveda (drums, percussion) and Roberta Davis (vocals).

Like a turbo-powered, intergalactic elevator ride, Brazilian Dorian Dream builds on the principle of the modal diatonic scales of the Dorian mode, with influences of Brazilian rhythms, North American jazz and funk, and music of the European baroque and romantic era. The coming together of these intergenerational and intercontinental styles coupled with Fest's visionary use of the Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, Arp and Moog synthesizers (plus a whole load of effects units), makes for an album light years ahead of its time.

The miraculous wordless vocals of American jazz singer Roberta Davis are nailed so tightly alongside Manfredo's keys and mind-bending synths that it sounds almost alien. On the album's liner notes, Fest preaches Davis' ability highlighting how hard it is to sing such precise intervals so accurately. One of the tracks on which the vocals shine brightest is space funk stepper "Jungle Cat", which features hard funky drums, freaky synth lines and expert Rhodes comping. The track builds up and up before releasing into the unmistakable scat melody in the chorus.

A few years after releasing Brazilian Dorian Dream, Fest recorded and released his Manifestations album in 1979, featuring 'Jungle Kitten'': a new dancefloor focused variation on "Jungle Cat". At around 140 BPM 'Jungle Kitten' was possibly deemed too fast for statside dance floors, which explains why it never got a US 12" release. But the track became something of an underground hit at jazz dance clubs and all-dayers across the UK in the 80s and as a result it has probably become Fest's most well known track since.

The multifaceted Colorado-based unit Breathe Carolina debuted in the late 2000s with a genre-mashing EDM/post-hardcore/electropop sound, breaking through with the 2011 single "Blackout" from their third album, Hell Is What You Make It.

Founded in 2006 by Kyle Even and David Schmitt, the Denver group's blend of synth-based beats and melodic screaming first appeared on the public radar in 2007 with the self-released Gossip EP. It was followed in 2008 by the band's first full-length for Rise Records, It's Classy, Not Classic, which featured all the tracks that appeared on Gossip with six additional new songs. Hello Fascination was released in 2009 and peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200, and in 2011 the group released its third full-length, Hell Is What You Make It, home to the breakthrough single "Blackout."

Though founding member Kyle Even left the group in 2013 to focus on being a parent, Breathe Carolina would continue without him, eventually releasing a fourth album, Savages, in 2014. The set recruited guests Karmin, Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria), and Tyler Carter (Issues), and featured the singles "Collide," "Bang It Out," "Sellouts," and "Savages." The following year saw the release of a new single, "More Than Ever," a collaboration with Ryos featuring vocalist KARRA. It was issued via the Dutch indie Spinnin' Records.

Over the next year, Breathe Carolina had a prolific streak, releasing a bevy of high-profile singles and a pair of EPs in 2016's Sleepless and Oh So Hard. They collaborated with artists like Blasterjaxx, APEK, Haliene, and more. Another EP, Coma, again for the Spinnin' label, arrived in 2017. The following year, they issued the sequel EP Oh So Hard, Pt. 2. 2019 brought collaborations with Raven & Kreyn on "Stronger" and with Jordan Jay on "All I Need."
