By combining elements of alternative hip-hop with Jack Johnson-esque cabana pop on early songs, Naples, Florida's Dominic Fike went from unknown to major-label signee in 2018. His debut EP, Don't Forget About Me, Demos, arrived later the same year.

After some demos emerged in 2017, Fike, then in his early twenties, was well covered in the music press for signing a multi-million-dollar deal with Sandy Boys and Columbia Records before even releasing a song. They put out the reworked Don't Forget About Me, Demos in mid-October 2018. The set's opening track, "3 Nights," topped a million streams before the end of the month. After featuring on Kevin Abstract's single "Peach" (along with BROCKHAMPTON's Joba and Bearface, Fike issued two tracks of his own, "Açaí Bowl" and "Roller Blades," in 2019.

Following the demise of Viking/folk-themed black metal band Mithotyn in 1999, Swedish guitarist/bassist Stefan Weinerhall and drummer Karsten Larsson took a right turn toward power metal with their next project, Falconer, whose studio lineup was initially completed by accomplished stage actor and singer Mathias Blad. Promising demos quickly landed the group a deal from America's Metal Blade, and early Falconer albums like 2001's eponymous debut and 2002's Chapters from a Vale Forlorn distinguished themselves for meshing lingering traces of Scandinavian folk music into power metal's often predictable template. But the band's rising fortunes only led to conflict: Blad decided to quit rather than let ever increasing touring commitments get in the way of his parallel theatrical career, forcing Weinerhall and Larsson to replace him with new vocalist Kristoffer Göbel even as they hired second guitarist Anders Johansson and bassist Peder Johansson to flesh out their concert lineup. This same quintet also recorded Falconer's third album, The Sceptre of Deception, in 2003, but a subsequent falling out resulted in the Johanssons being ejected in favor of new members Jimmy Hedlund (second guitar) and Magnus Linhardt (bass). On 2005's Grime vs. Grandeur, Falconer did away with their medieval/fairy tale/Tolkien-esque lyrics and, coincidentally or not, the album was their first to receive wide-scale negative reviews. Getting back to basics, singer Mathias Blad returned to the band, making his triumphant return on Falconer's fifth album, 2006's Northwind, an album that found the band returning to the more fantasy-oriented sound of its earlier work. Although 2008's Among Beggars and Thieves would trend toward the heavier side of their sound, Falconer continued to integrate the sounds of traditional Swedish folk music into their seventh album, Armod, which was released in 2011, as well as their eighth album, 2014's driving and elegant Black Moon Rising.

With a rangy set of friends from Fall Out Boy to Lil Wayne, it was clear from the start that Tyga was not your everyday rapper from Compton. After recording a mixtape and promoting it around the city, Tyga ran into his cousin, Gym Class Heroes member Travis McCoy, in the Flight Club L.A. sneaker shop. Their conversation went from shoes to rappers, and as Travis' group went from unknowns to MTV stars, he would always remember that talk and his cousin's unique style.

Chicago rapper Calboy looked to his own struggles with mental health and substance abuse when writing some of his hardest-hitting rhymes. Going so far as to name one of his mixtapes Anxiety, his songs loom heavy with moody melodies and huge trap beats. Several singles such as "Can't Tell" paved the way for new fans, but it was the 2018 single "Envy Me" that broke through to millions with a viral video.

Calboy was born Calvin Wood in 1999. He was raised in the gritty South Chicago neighborhood of Calumet City, growing up amid crime and violence. This hostile environment would influence his music early on, with lyrics reflecting both the tough conditions of street life and the anxiety and depression he felt because of it. He formed a crew of artists and friends called the Paper Gang and set about working on music both solo and with this collective. His first mixtape, The Chosen One, was released in 2017 and was followed months later that same year with second mixtape Anxiety. 2018 brought the brief ten-song mixtape Calboy the Wild Boy, released on Paper Gang. While working on his next project, Calboy dropped the single "Envy Me" in September of 2018. The song caught on in a massive way, being streamed millions of times within its first few months of release. The buzz surrounding Calboy, the song and its place in a burgeoning scene of melodic rap coming out of Chicago was enough to land the rapper a major-label deal with RCA. In 2019, the Wildboy mixtape was assembled around the song, and included features from Lil Durk, Young Thug, Polo G, and others. Rounding out the year with the G Herbo-assisted "Purpose," Calboy kicked off 2020 with the February EP Long Live the Kings. With further features from Lil Baby and Lil Tjay, the project saw the rapper continue to develop his melody-driven style.

British combo Amber Run deliver lush, cinematic alt-pop with a moody and introspective tone. Signing with RCA a year after their formation, a series of EPs paved the way for their dramatic 2015 debut, 5AM. A modest U.K. chart success, its follow-up, For a Moment, I Was Lost, fared similarly in 2017, after which the group continued to explore new sounds with another EP and several singles.

Singer/guitarist Joe Keogh, guitarist Will Jones, and bassist Tom Sperring were old friends from grammar school who later met keyboardist Henry Wyeth and drummer Felix Archer at the University of Nottingham, where they formed the band in 2012. An early break put Amber Run on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading Festival, and by the end of 2013 they'd signed a deal with RCA Records. Under their new contract, they quickly delivered their debut EP, Noah, in early 2014. Two more EPs (Spark and Pilot) followed in quick succession before Amber Run announced they'd completed their debut album, 5AM, with producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Keane). Behind singles like "I Found" and "Just My Soul Responding," the album reached number 36 on the U.K. albums chart upon its 2015 release. A pair of new singles, "Haze" and "Stranger," arrived in 2016 in advance of their follow-up album, For a Moment, I Was Lost, which was released in early 2017. Continuing to expand their sound, Amber Run's 2018 EP, The Assembly, featured a pair of lush, mostly choral tracks in "The Weight" and "Amen." The fuzzier, more rock-driven "Carousel" single rounded out their year. The moody 2019 track "Affection" again leaned in a more orchestral direction.

Making her debut at the age of 15, singer/songwriter Whitney Woerz crafts affirmative pop with a dash of guitar twang, like a combination of early Taylor Swift and R&B-influenced vocalists like Alessia Cara and Tori Kelly. The New Yorker began recording her first effort in early 2015. Produced by Glenn Rosenstein (U2, Madonna), the Behind the Smile EP arrived later that year and included the viral hit "6 Second Love" and "Ghost Story," about a friend living with depression. Her dedication to the issue led to her position as teen ambassador for Bring Change 2 Mind, a charity dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health struggles. That same year, Woerz also released Live from Muscle Shoals: The Fame Sessions, a covers collection of songs by the likes of X Ambassadors, Troye Sivan, Shawn Mendes, Bon Iver, and more, recorded at Fame Studios. In 2017, Woerz issued the upbeat single "Idea of Her."

The Siegfried Idyll, WWV 103, by Richard Wagner is a symphonic poem for chamber orchestra.

Wagner composed the Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present to his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869. It was first performed on Christmas morning, 25 December 1870, by a small ensemble of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich on the stairs of their villa at Tribschen (today part of Lucerne), Switzerland. Cosima awoke to its opening melody. Conductor Hans Richter learned the trumpet in order to play the brief trumpet part, which lasts only 13 measures, in that private performance, reportedly having sailed out to the centre of Lake Lucerne to practise, so as not to be heard.

English quintet Blossoms burst onto the British scene in the 2010s, quickly rising from local clubs to festival stages within a few short years. Their breakthrough debut landed in 2016 after years of anticipation, topping charts and winning fans with a catchy, synth-forward blend of Brit-pop and indie rock heard on songs like hit single "Charlemagne." Incorporating more new wave influences on their follow-up, 2018's Cool Like You, the band maintained their presence on U.K. charts and on the touring circuit. By the end of the decade, they were selling out shows, including one at a hometown stadium. The group entered a new decade in 2020 with their third LP, the lovelorn Foolish Loving Spaces.

German heavy metal/hard rock goddess Doro Pesch is best known for her years with the power metal band Warlock, but she has had a long solo career and continued to command a loyal following (especially in Europe) long after the group's demise. After releasing four albums with Warlock in the 1980s, Pesch set out on her own, touring and recording under her first name, beginning with 1989's Force Majeure. Dialing back on the gothic fantasy metal of Warlock, Pesch adopted a more pop-metal/hard rock sound, which she would continue to hone well into the next century. Shifting musical tastes in the early '90s resulted in Pesch finding most of her success in the European market, where metal still reigned supreme, but as the 2000s progressed, Doro once again found favor abroad via late-career standouts like Warrior Soul and Raise Your Fist.

In 1999, Pesch recorded Calling the Wild, which was released in both Europe and the U.S. in 2000. Calling the Wild was her first North American release since 1990's Doro; True at Heart, Angels Never Die, Doro Live, Machine II Machine, and Love Me in Black had only been released in Europe, although the LPs were sold in U.S. stores as imports. Pesch remained prolific throughout the 2000s, issuing a flurry of well-received solo releases, including Fight (2002), Classic Diamonds (2004), Warrior Soul (2006), Fear No Evil (2009), and Raise Your Fist (2012), the latter three of which helped to re-establish her in the American market. In 2017, she released her first German-language LP, Für Immer, via Rare Diamonds Productions, and in 2018 she released the ambitious and anthemic double-album Forever Warriors, Forever United.

Lancashire, U.K.-based rock band Massive Wagons pay homage to the bombast of heavy rock without sounding dated, mostly due to advancements in music production. After relentless gigging and the release of their debut album, 2012's Fire It Up, the group forged ahead, building on their anthemic sound with every record. Their adherence to style and reputation as an exhilarating live act paid off with their fourth full-length album, 2018's Full Nelson, which saw the band attain much wider popularity.

Massive Wagons formed in 2009 when Barry "Baz" Mills (vocals) and Adam Thistlewaite (guitar) left their previous group, Ace Face, in pursuit of something with more heft. They brought in Adam's brother Alex Thistlewaite (drums) as well as Adam Bouskill (bass), and Carl Cochrane (guitar) to create Massive Wagons. With proven knowledge of their local live music scene, the band began plugging away, finding time to release their debut EP, Sniff the Riff, which caught the attention of Casket Records. 2012 saw the release of their debut album, Fire It Up, although it went under the radar for anyone who wasn't already aware of the group. Undeterred, Massive Wagons entered and won the Highway to Hell competition in 2013, landing a record deal with Off Yer Rocka. The band's new label went on to release their next two albums, 2014's Fight the System and 2016's Welcome to the World, the latter of which finally afforded them some national recognition.

The following year, Massive Wagons underwent some changes, with a switch to Earache Records and the replacement of Cochrane with Stephen "Stevie" Hull. 2018 saw them achieve even more success, with the release of their fourth studio album, Full Nelson, entering the U.K. official charts at number 16. Following its release, the group headed out on tour in support, with shows at Download Festival and a support slot for idols Status Quo also taking place. 2019 saw Massive Wagons head out on tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd as the opening act on their farewell tour, before rounding off the year with their own headline tour. At the beginning of 2020, the band returned to the studio to record what would become their fifth album, this time with producer Colin Richardson (Trivium, Sepultura) and engineer Chris Clancy (Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying). Earache issued House of Noise midway through 2020.

The quintessential hard-rocking sound of Sweden's Thundermother takes it cues from the likes of AC/DC and Motörhead but sees the group add a modern twist, as heard on their 2020 full-length Heat Wave.

The brainchild of Sweden's Filippa Nässil, Thundermother first came about in 2010 after Nässil moved to Stockholm to start a classic rock band. Teaming up with Italian guitarist Giorgia Carteri, who had also found herself in Stockholm, the duo started to put together a band, with the pair finally settling down with members, drummer Tilda Stenqvist, bassist Linda Ström, and Irish vocalist Clare Cunningham in 2013. With the group a solid collective, they embarked on national tours, peddling their own modern brand of classic '70s rock before issuing their debut album, Rock 'n' Roll Disaster, in 2014. Just a year later, they followed it up with their sophomore release, Road Fever, before becoming regulars of the European rock scene, playing festivals and live dates across the continent. As the quintet started to record their third album, they split, with Carteri, Stenqvist, Ström, and Cunningham leaving to pursue other avenues.

Quick to continue what she had started, Nässil recruited Guernica Mancini on vocals, Emlee Johansson on drums, and Sara Pettersson on bass, with the now four-piece returning to the studio to record their third album. The eponymously titled release appeared in 2018, with the group's take on classic rock still firmly in the driving seat. With a refreshed vigor, Thundermother continued to play the European festival and gig scene throughout 2019 before returning to the studio to record their fourth album. With Nässil as chief songwriter on previous outings, the group all clubbed together for Heat Wave, recording with Danish rock producer Soren Andersen at his Melody studios in Copenhagen. Preceded by the chugging, riff-drenched single "Driving in Style," Heat Wave was issued in mid-2020 by AFM.

Description : Ólafur Arnalds - Undan hulu (Live at Sydney Opera House)

My show at @Sydney Opera House for the 2015 Graphic Festival stands out as one of the most exciting shows I've done in my career.

Not only is it rare that I get to perform with a larger ensemble but these amazing arrangements, by my friend Viktor Orri, were made exclusively for this show - never to be performed again.

This version of 'Undan hulu' is a particular favourite of mine.

Although rhythm guitarist and lyricist Richey James Edwards' assaultive public persona garnered most of the band's headlines in their early days, the heart of Manic Street Preachers was always singer and lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield. With his short, stocky physique and hard-man bravado, Bradfield had an Everyman anti-mystique that rooted the band's often inchoate political posturing and served as an anchor for Edwards' considerably flightier proto-Pete Doherty antics. Together, Bradfield and Edwards made Manic Street Preachers THE buzz band of the early days of Brit-pop, before the reconfigured band became worldwide stars after Edwards' apparent suicide in 1995.
