Although rhythm guitarist and lyricist Richey James Edwards' assaultive public persona garnered most of the band's headlines in their early days, the heart of Manic Street Preachers was always singer and lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield. With his short, stocky physique and hard-man bravado, Bradfield had an Everyman anti-mystique that rooted the band's often inchoate political posturing and served as an anchor for Edwards' considerably flightier proto-Pete Doherty antics. Together, Bradfield and Edwards made Manic Street Preachers THE buzz band of the early days of Brit-pop, before the reconfigured band became worldwide stars after Edwards' apparent suicide in 1995.

A vocalist who takes inspiration from R&B and hip-hop, Layton Greene became an overnight star in late 2017 when a homemade video of her singing Kodak Black's "Roll in Peace" went viral and gave her an audience of millions.

Greene was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 4, 1998. She grew up with a love for music and sang for her own enjoyment, but didn't begin taking it seriously until she was 18 years old. Greene began making videos of herself singing some of her favorite tunes and posting them on social media. One of them was a version of Kodak Black's "Roll in Peace," with Greene putting her own spin on the lyrics. To her surprise, after posting it, the clip began attracting attention far beyond her circle of friends, going on to receive more than half a million views. Greene next partnered with producer G-Styles, recording a more professional version of what she called her "Roll in Peace Remix," and after it was posted online in November 2017, it exploded, receiving over three and a half million plays. The track became popular enough to rise to number 12 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. A few days before the end of 2017, Greene dropped her second studio track, an interpretation of Derez De'Shon's "Fed Up" that she called "Fed Up Remix." With G-Styles once again at the controls, Greene had recorded another success, and she celebrated by quitting her day job at a restaurant to focus on music full-time. In 2019, she released the single "Leave Em Alone," which also featured Lil Baby, City Girls, and PnB Rock.

Rapper Euro Gotit was considered a hidden talent in Atlanta's fertile and crowded rap scene, bringing a strong reading of the same melodic trap style as some of the city's most notable breakout stars. When the more established Lil Baby collaborated with him on the 2018 single "Posse," it opened the floodgates for new fans and supporters.

Euro Gotit was born and raised on Atlanta's Westside. His love for European fashion and cars got him the nickname "Euro," which he expanded to Euro Gotit when he began rapping publicly. He began as a ghostwriter but found that his rhymes had more energy and better delivery when he rapped them himself. Early songs like "On the Way" and "Wavy" caught some attention and local radio play in Atlanta, but when Lil Baby contributed a verse to the 2018 track "Posse," many new listeners perked up their ears. The song was featured on the 4N (Foreign) mixtape released that same year. Along with Lil Baby's featured verse, Euro Gotit was joined by Gunna, HoodRich Pablo Juan, and others. He followed the next year with his debut studio album, Foreign Exchange.

Hailing from Macon, Georgia, Jason Aldean quietly turned into a genuine country superstar in the back half of the 2000s. After high school, he built his reputation on the road, but struggled for years to find a contract in Nashville before finally signing to Broken Bow in 2004. Aldean's third album, Wide Open, established him as a country star during 2009, and the following year's My Kinda Party earned a four-times platinum certification. He also made a routine of hitting number one on the country charts ("She's Country," "The Truth," "Big Green Tractor," "Dirt Road Anthem," "Take a Little Ride," "Night Train," "Burnin' It Down") and been awarded multiple times by all of the major country music organizations, including three consecutive Entertainer of the Year Awards by ACM.

In October 2017, while Aldean was on-stage performing at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip, a gunman began firing on the assembled crowd, resulting in the deadly mass shooting that took the lives of many of the singer's fans. Aldean managed to escape unharmed and appeared the following weekend on Saturday Night Live performing a cover of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down." In January 2018 he released "You Make It Easy," the lead single from his Rearview Town album. Completed prior to the Vegas tragedy, Rearview Town appeared in April 2018. Rearview Town spawned four Country Airplay Number Ones—"You Make It Easy," the Miranda Lambert duet "Drowns the Whiskey," "Girl Like You" and its title track—that kept the album on the airwaves into 2019. In November of that year, Aldean returned with his ninth album, 9.

Based in Denver, Colorado, Nathaniel Rateliff is a striking, emotive tenor vocalist and songwriter whose work runs the gamut from simple folk and Americana to roots rock & roll and vintage rhythm & blues. Although he earned critical acclaim for his quieter, more introspective folk-based albums, he broke out commercially in 2015 with the release of Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, the eponymous debut from his high-energy and soulful live band. Signed to the legendary Stax label, the band spent the next four years enjoying a high public profile, releasing a live album and studio follow-up before Rateliff returned to solo work with the reflective 2020 album, And It's Still Alright.

The nom de plume of Atlanta, Georgia-raised, Nashville-based singer/songwriter Ben Cramer, Old Sea Brigade emerged in 2016 with a critically lauded EP that featured a compelling, heartfelt, and atmospheric blend of folk, country, Americana, and indie rock that invoked names like Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, and the National. A string of singles and an EP for the Nettwerk label paved the way for his 2019 full-length debut, Ode to a Friend.

After several years playing in bands around the Atlanta area, Cramer decided to forge ahead as a solo act, adopting the Old Sea Brigade name in 2015. Self-released in 2016, his eponymous debut EP earned him enough buzz to land key support slots for Hiss Golden Messenger, Julien Baker, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich during his first U.S. tour. Later that year, he inked a deal with Nettwerk and began work on a follow-up release. Cramer's first single for Nettwerk, the rousing "All the Same," dropped in September 2016 and was later included on 2017's Wash Me Away, the first of three EPs he would issue that year. The song "Tidal Wave," from his next EP, Cover My Own, notched significant play on streaming networks. Cramer closed out a banner year with the Christmas EP Songs for the Holidays. Scattered throughout 2018 were the singles "Hope," "Feel You," and "Sinkhole," which preceded Old Sea Brigade's 2019 full-length debut, Ode to a Friend.

A multiracial singer with a genre-bending approach to country music, Kane Brown helped shift the sound of modern country in the late 2010s. Initially attracted to R&B, he later embraced country, and his first single, "Don't Go City on Me," went viral upon release in 2014. By 2016, Brown had signed with RCA and issued his full-length debut Kane Brown. He began crossing over to the pop charts with "What Ifs" (featuring Lauren Alaina) and "Heaven," both of which landed in the Top 40. Brown's, second album 2018's Experiment, topped the Billboard 200 and spawned a trio of country hits with "Lose It," "Good as You," and "Homesick." In keeping with his boundary-breaking approach, Brown has also paired for collaborations with DJ Marshmello and singer Khalid.

The Creatures of Prometheus (German: Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus), Op. 43, is a ballet composed in 1801 by Ludwig van Beethoven following the libretto of Salvatore Viganò. The ballet premiered on 28 March 1801 at the Burgtheater in Vienna and was given 28 performances. It was premiered in New York at the Park Theatre on 14 June 1808 being one of the first full length works by Beethoven to be performed in the United States. It is the only full length ballet by Beethoven.

Viganò was tasked with presenting a work to the empress Maria Theresia at the Vienna Court Theater, and chose the subject matter of Prometheus in an allegorical sense. While Viganò usually composed his own music for his performances, he felt this performance was far too important and asked Beethoven to compose instead. The ballet was written in two acts, with Beethoven creating an overture, an introduction, fifteen numbers, and a finale.

The ballet is an allegory based on the mythical story of Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus in order to create mankind from clay. In the ballet, Prometheus finds mankind in a state of ignorance and decides to introduce the ideas of science and art to them, largely based on Beethoven's own support of the Enlightenment movement. Prometheus introduces the humans to Apollo, the god of the arts, who commands Amphion, Arion and Orpheus to teach music, and Melpomene and Thalia to teach tragedy and comedy. The humans also meet with Terpsichore who, along with Pan, introduces them to the Pastoral Dance, followed by Dionysus introducing his Heroic Dance.

According to musicologist Lewis Lockwood, Beethoven’s music for this ballet is "easier and lighter than music for the concert hall…It shows Beethoven exploiting instruments and coloristic orchestral effects that would never appear in his symphonies or serious dramatic overtures." Beethoven later based the fourth movement of his Eroica symphony and his Eroica Variations (piano) on the main theme of the last movement (Finale) of this ballet.

The ballet requires the use of harp and basset-horn among the orchestral instruments, instruments Beethoven rarely scored for.

Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage (Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt)

Charity Concert for the Rheingau Music Festival

Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage (Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt), Op. 27, is an orchestral concert overture by Felix Mendelssohn inspired by the same verses that inspired Beethoven's 1815 cantata of the same title (and indeed inspired by Beethoven's version, which is in the same key, D major). Mendelssohn's work was first performed in 1828.

The titles of Goethe's two poems are not synonymous: in the days before steam, a totally calm sea was cause for alarm; it is only when the wind at last rises that the ship can continue on its journey. Mendelssohn's version concludes with a fanfare of trumpets suggesting the ship's final arrival at its port of destination.

Scored for piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, double bassoon, serpent, 2 horns, 3 trumpets, timpani and strings,  the piece is programmatic for its reference of the two poems by Goethe. These two poems were extremely popular, and at the time of the premiere, Mendelssohn could have assumed that the audience would have been familiar with both poems and able to follow the programme of the music with minimal aid. The work is a concert overture - meaning that it is not intended as a prelude to a larger work such as an opera (as 'overture', deriving from the French for 'opening', more often implies). Instead, the piece is performed as an independent piece in a symphonic concert. The term overture here refers to the use of melody and form. However, it could also be considered as an early form of tone poem.

Edward Elgar quotes a theme from the overture in the 13th variation of his Enigma Variations to represent one of his "friends pictured within" on a ship bound for Australia or New Zealand.

German punk rockers SERUM 114 have been kicking up the fuss for over 10 years with their hard-hitting blend of punk and modern rock – without counting bruises or scars! Today, the punk rock unit releases their new single, "Abgefucktes Leben" (engl. “fucked up life”), along with an authentic music video, fresh off their upcoming album Im Zeichen der Zeit (engl. “signs of time”), to be released via Napalm Records on September 18, 2020. Following their chart-topping longplayer Die Nacht Mein Freund (engl. “the night is my friend”) (GER #3), the new full-length includes 14 energetic tracks, careening towards a rock break-out.
As a harbinger of the upcoming album their second single “Abgefucktes Leben” delivers pure modern rock. Wearing their punk rock attitude on their sleeves, the mid-tempo anthem illuminates the simplicity of daily life. The accompanying audio-visual hits the nail on the head and showcases that SERUM 114 aren’t preoccupied with taking themselves too seriously. With their new offering, they double down on their musical power and present themselves stronger than ever before: lyrically, musically and stylistically!

SERUM 114 on their new single “Abgefucktes Leben”:
"An ode to banality and the lightness of being. An homage to the child in our heads and the Peter Pan in our hearts. Today the rest of the world can take themselves seriously – we won’t!"

At two separate times, Felix Mendelssohn composed music for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream (in German Ein Sommernachtstraum). First in 1826, near the start of his career, he wrote a concert overture (Op. 21). Later, in 1842, only a few years before his death, he wrote incidental music (Op. 61) for a production of the play, into which he incorporated the existing Overture. The incidental music includes the famous Wedding March.

The Overture in E major, Op. 21, was written by Mendelssohn at 17 years and 6 months old (it was finished on 6 August 1826). Contemporary music scholar George Grove called it "the greatest marvel of early maturity that the world has ever seen in music". It was written as a concert overture, not associated with any performance of the play. The Overture was written after Mendelssohn had read a German translation of the play in 1826. The translation was by August Wilhelm Schlegel, with help from Ludwig Tieck. There was a family connection as well: Schlegel's brother Friedrich married Felix Mendelssohn's Aunt Dorothea.

While a romantic piece in atmosphere, the Overture incorporates many classical elements, being cast in sonata form and shaped by regular phrasings and harmonic transitions. The piece is also noted for its striking instrumental effects, such as the emulation of scampering 'fairy feet' at the beginning and the braying of Bottom as an ass (effects which were influenced by the aesthetic ideas and suggestions of Mendelssohn's friend at the time, Adolf Bernhard Marx). Heinrich Eduard Jacob, in his biography of the composer, surmised that Mendelssohn had scribbled the opening chords after hearing an evening breeze rustle the leaves in the garden of the family's home.

Influenced by coldwave, early-'80s synth pop, and the mighty bass playing of New Order's Peter Hook, Black Marble is the project of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Chris Stewart. When Stewart debuted in 2012 with The Weight Against the Door EP, he remained true to the frosty gloom of his influences, burying his monotone baritone with layers of echo, reverb, and analog synths. As time went on, however, he let more light and warmth into his music, particularly on 2016's It's Immaterial and 2019's Bigger Than Life, both of which reflected his move from Brooklyn to the sunnier climes of Los Angeles.
