Australian DJ and instrumentalist Timmy Trumpet makes dynamic, progressive house music that he often accents with his trumpet playing. Born Timothy Jude Smith in Sydney in 1982, Smith began playing trumpet at age four and initially attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he received classical instruction. After being thrown out for a prank, however, he transferred to a public high school where he became increasingly involved with jazz. Although Smith's trumpet ability predicted a performance career, it was dance music and not jazz that ultimately grabbed his interest. Around 2001, billing himself as Timmy Trumpet, he began combining his skills as a DJ and trumpeter, a sound that caught audiences' attention in such EDM hot spots as Ibiza and London. Trumpet has produced tracks for such labels as PACHA, Ministry of Sound, and One Love, and has performed with such similarly inclined electronic acts as the Stafford Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Armin Van Buuren, and others. He has had several Top Ten singles on the Aria Club Chart, including his 2011 collaboration with DJ Tenzin, "Horny," which reached number five. In 2014, his single "Freaks," featuring rapper Savage, hit number one in New Zealand, and eventually reached quadruple-platinum status the following year. Also in 2015, Trumpet released the single "Toca" featuring Carnage and KHSMR.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Clarinet Concerto A major K. 622

I. Allegro
II. Adagio
III. Rondo. Allegro

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, was written in October 1791 for the clarinetist Anton Stadler. It consists of three movements, in a fast–slow–fast succession:

Allegro (in A major and in sonata form)
Adagio (in D major and in ternary form)
Rondo: Allegro (in A major and in rondo form)

As there is no autograph for this concerto and as it was published posthumously, it is difficult to understand all of Mozart's intentions. The only relic of this concerto written in Mozart's hand is an excerpt of an earlier rendition of the concerto written for basset horn in G (K. 584b/621b). This excerpt is nearly identical to the corresponding section in the published version for A clarinet.

Mozart originally intended the piece to be written for basset horn, as Anton Stadler was also a virtuoso basset horn player, but eventually was convinced the piece would be more effective for clarinet. However, several notes throughout the piece go beyond the conventional range of the A clarinet; Mozart may have intended the piece to be played on the basset clarinet, a special clarinet championed by Stadler that had a range down to low (written) C, instead of stopping at (written) E as standard clarinets do.

Even in Mozart's day, the basset clarinet was a rare, custom-made instrument, so when the piece was published posthumously, a new version was arranged with the low notes transposed to regular range. This has proven a problematic decision, as the autograph no longer exists, having been pawned by Stadler, and until the mid 20th century musicologists did not know that the only version of the concerto written by Mozart's hand had not been heard since Stadler's lifetime. Attempts were made to reconstruct the original version, and new basset clarinets have been built for the specific purpose of performing Mozart's concerto and clarinet quintet.

Appalachian Spring – Suite for 13 Instruments

Appalachian Spring is a musical composition by Aaron Copland that was premiered in 1944 and has achieved widespread and enduring popularity as an orchestral suite. The music, scored for a thirteen-member chamber orchestra, was created upon commission of the choreographer and dancer Martha Graham with funds from the Coolidge Foundation. It was premiered on Monday, October 30, 1944 at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., with Martha Graham dancing the lead role. The set was designed by the American sculptor Isamu Noguchi. Copland was awarded the 1945 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his achievement.

In 1942, Martha Graham and Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge commissioned Copland to write a ballet with "an American theme". Copland did the bulk of the work in 1943/44, and the work was premiered at the Library of Congress on Oct. 30, 1944, with Graham dancing the lead role. In 1945, Copland was commissioned by conductor Artur Rodzinski to rearrange the ballet as an orchestral suite, preserving most of the music. Copland cut about 10 minutes from the original 13-instrument score to make the suite. From the preface in the original Boosey & Hawkes publication of the suite:

The original scoring called for a chamber ensemble of thirteen instruments. The present arrangement for symphony orchestra was made by the composer in the Spring of 1945. It is a condensed version of the ballet, retaining all essential features but omitting those sections in which the interest is primarily choreographic.

Chaka is the debut solo album by American R&B/funk singer Chaka Khan, released on the Warner Bros. Records label in 1978.

Still very much an integral part of Rufus, Chaka Khan set the charts on fire with her debut solo release. The first single was the R&B chart-topper "I'm Every Woman," an Ashford & Simpson track with Khan lighting up the lyric with her tantalizing vocals. Although Khan had much credibility from her association with Rufus, this album demonstrated that the dynamic vocalist could hold her own ground alone.

Making sure the parental advisory sticker will never become obsolete, Lord Finesse broke into the rap game as yet another hardcore rapper. After gaining a following in his native New York, Finesse cut Funky Technician, an excellent debut for Wild Pitch Records. He then signed a management deal with Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate Management and recorded his 1991 major-label debut, Return of the Funky Man, for Giant. When his rapping career didn't explode, Finesse began producing and has since become a competent studio player, producing albums by Notorious B.I.G. and Noreaga.
