R&B-influenced pop singer/songwriter Bazzi hit the mainstream after finding viral success with his breakthrough single "Mine." The track made a slow climb up the charts, peaking just outside the Top 10 on the Hot 100, and appeared on his Top 40 hit debut COSMIC.

Born Andrew Bazzi to Lebanese-American parents in Dearborn, Michigan, he was a natural performer from a young age, imitating Elvis and Ricky Martin as a child and later playing oud and acoustic guitar. At the end of high school, he moved to Los Angeles with his father to pursue a music career. In addition to building an audience online, he appeared on Fancy Cars' single "Fun" in 2016. Influenced by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Bryson Tiller, he released his solo debut, "Alone," soon after. In 2017 he issued the singles "Sober," "Beautiful (feat. Camila Cabello)," and "Got Friends?," but it wasn't until "Mine" went viral with the help of an Internet meme that his audience grew. With its smooth, breezy sound, the romantic "Mine" became a streaming hit and landed Bazzi on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2018. His debut full-length, COSMIC, arrived months later. Featuring additional singles "Gone" and "Honest," the set debuted at 35 on the Billboard 200. Just a year later, Bazzi issued another effort, this time in the form of a mixtape. Soul Searching featured the title track and single "No Way!" as well as appearances by 6LACK and 21 Savage. Upon release, the set debuted at number 20 on the U.S. album chart.

A pop musician who advanced from YouTube likes to RIAA certifications, Charlie Puth has regularly achieved multi-platinum status on his own and with high-profile collaborators. Puth started a lengthy all-platinum run with the Meghan Trainor duet "Marvin Gaye" (2015) and didn't look back, though he has regularly applied vintage sounds including early R&B, classic singer/songwriters, and the commercial end of new wave to his high-spirited contemporary pop. The singer, songwriter, and producer notched a couple additional hits prior to issuing his debut album, Nine Track Mind (2016), including the chart-topping Wiz Khalifa collaboration "See You Again." He continued to roll through second full-length Voicenotes (2018), the guest list of which, from James Taylor to Kehlani, balanced influences with contemporaries.

Puth's second album. Released in May 2018, it hit number four on the Billboard 200. The singles "I Warned Myself," "Mother," and "Cheating on You," were issued in 2019, with "Girlfriend" arriving in 2020.

It doesn’t really need an explanation—you know exactly what Kehlani means when she sings. Without sugarcoating or softening a word, the Bay Area-born two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum songstress will drop a hard truth in one breath and flip a middle finger in the next. She may extend a seductive invitation or an empathetic plea before leaving you in your thoughts and feelings. Either way, she finds a way to consistently relate without filter. With each move, she strengthens this connection to listeners everywhere. Kehlani’s 2015 breakout mixtape You Should Be Here received a 2016 GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Urban Contemporary Album.” On its heels, her 2017 full-length debut SweetSexySavage bowed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went gold. Between selling out dates on the SweetSexySavage Tour, the record closed out the year on Pitchfork’s “The 50 Best Albums of 2017” and Rolling Stone’s “20 Best R&B Albums of 2017.”

Along the way, she contributed to Suicide Squad: The Album and The Fate of the Furious: The Album and guested on Cardi B’s double-platinum “Ring,” Kyle’s platinum “PLAYINWITME,” and Justin Bieber’s “Get Me,” to name a few. By 2020, she picked up three gold solo singles—"You Should Be Here,” “Honey,” and “Distraction,” for which she received her second GRAMMY® nomination for Best R&B performance. In addition, four platinum singles—“Gangsta,” “The Way” [feat. Chance the Rapper], “CRZY,” and “Nights Like This” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign] and streams in the billions. Not to mention, Billboard Women In Music honored her with the “Rule Breaker Award” as she gathered nominations at the Soul Train Awards and the American Music Awards. Plus, she made show-stopping appearances at Voodoo Music + More, Coachella, and beyond. In the aftermath of 2019’s chart-topping While We Wait mixtape, everything changed. She became a mom. As such, parenthood left an indelible imprint on her second full-length, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. Out May 8th, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t is described by Kehlani as her most mature body of work, featuring songs based on her own real experiences including recently released “Toxic” and “Everybody Business.” In the end, you’ll know exactly what’s on Kehlani’s mind, heart, and soul on It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.

American duo Sofi Tukker (Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern) craft throbbing, '90s house-inspired jungle pop that resulted in a Grammy nomination their first song, 2016's "Drinkee." They made their full-length debut in 2018 with Treehouse, which was also nominated for a Grammy.

Hawley-Weld and Halpern met in Providence, Rhode Island, while attending Brown University. Soon after, the solo artists joined forces and composed their first song, "Drinkee," which became an international hit. The track featured lyrics adapted from a Brazilian poem and was sung in Portuguese (which Hawley-Weld studied in college), adding to its global appeal. Streamed tens of millions of times and charting in multiple countries, the song went on to receive a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. "Drinkee" appeared on the pair's 2016 debut EP, Soft Animals.

The following year, Sofi Tukker issued the collaborative single "Best Friend" featuring Nervo, the Knocks, and Japanese vocalist Alisa Ueno. The track gained traction after appearing in a smartphone commercial and topped dance charts in places like Belgium and the Netherlands while cracking the Billboard Hot 100. They followed with the French-charting singles "That's It (I'm Crazy)" and "Batshit," the latter of which appeared on their debut LP, 2018's Treehouse. The Ultra Records release hit the album chart in Canada as well as peaking at number 14 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart. Collaborations with Pabllo Vittar ("Energia [Parte 2]") and the Knocks ("Brazilian Soul") followed later that year, as did the ZHU-assisted "Mi Rumba" in early 2019. In the meantime, Treehouse was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

The 1975 - "I Think There's Something You Should Know" [Rock & Alternative]

I Think There's Something You Should Know

"I Think There's Something You Should Know" music video by The 1975
Added: 10-07-2020

Description : The 1975 - I Think There's Something You Should Know

‘I Think There’s Something You Should Know’ from The 1975’s new album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’. Out now - https://ift.tt/2JD7bvq

The 1975 and Ben Ditto have curated an online exhibition of 15 artists responding to tracks from ‘NOACF’.
08 Alice Bucknell responds to ‘I Think There’s Something You Should Know’

“I wanted to play around with this idea of the secret, as referenced by the title, and the feeling of suspense that the track produces, scaling both up to a world-making capacity,” explains artist and writer Alice Bucknell. “Some of the album’s themes include technology, anxiety and ecological destruction, and I was thinking about these within the framework of an architectural utopia. The overarching idea, or set of ideas really, framing this project was an interest in technological utopias and the inevitable failure of these ambitions.”

Her film flies us to a ringed planet on which she’s constructed 3D models of three sci-fi cities, one for each of the song’s different sections: the first is a postmodern seastead that brings to mind the Las Vegas Strip. The second, and most contemporary, is a high-tech wellness metropolis which mixes Tokyo signage, SoulCycle classes and tropical foliage; “Decked out in neon lights and synthetic palm trees,” says Bucknell, “it’s the unfortunate byproduct of some Instagram algorithm, like Blade Runner meets Miami Beach.” The third, in which ‘I Think There’s Something You Should Know’ reaches its euphoric climax, is a glowing pioneer town out in the desert. All are rendered in a neon club aesthetic that matches the track’s up-tempo house feel and crisp, spacious production.

“What drew me to this track in particular,” says Bucknell, “is the loosening of what’s perceived as truth, or reality, through the forces of fantasy and desire. That’s what led me to thinking about this planet as a sort of glitch or technological error that ultimately deletes itself at the end of the video.”

In the last few frames the planet glitches then disappears. It leaves us wondering: Were these cities just mirages? Are utopias even possible, in the real or virtual worlds, or will they always conceal a hidden darkness?

Notes on a Conditional Form is the fourth studio album by English band the 1975, released on 22 May 2020 through Dirty Hit and Polydor Records. It was recorded from August 2018 to February 2020 and produced by band members George Daniel and Matthew Healy, with some tracks also co-produced by Jonathan Gilmore.

The album is the second and final part of the two albums from their third release cycle, "Music for Cars", following A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (2018). The album has been described as genre-hopping, mainly focusing on pop, rock, electronic, and dance music subgenres. Songs on the album have been described by writers as pop rock, folk music, industrial rock, and UK garage, among others. Additional vocalists featured on the album include FKA Twigs, Phoebe Bridgers, and Greta Thunberg, the latter of whom provided a spoken word piece on the album's intro track.

The 22-track album was preceded by the seven singles "People", "Frail State of Mind", "Me & You Together Song", "The Birthday Party", "Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America", "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)", and "Guys" over a nine-month period; the intro track "The 1975" was additionally released prior to the album's release. The album topped the UK charts within its first week of release, becoming the band's fourth consecutive no.1 album. Despite this, the album divided critics: many praised the album's ambition as well as its genre exploration, while others criticized the album as overly bloated and incoherent.

Old Dominion arose during the waning days of bro-country, a genre the band's five members were partially responsible for as authors of hits for Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Tyler Farr. As a band, Old Dominion were much softer and sweeter than the party-hearty legions of bro-country, straddling the line between contemporary pop and classic soft rock on their initial hits, 2015's "Break Up with Him" and 2016's "Snapback." Working with producer/songwriter Shane McAnally helped the quintet stay hip and fresh, leading to a series of Country Airplay number one singles in the last few years of the 2010s, including "Song for Another Time," "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart," "Written in the Sand," and "Make It Sweet."

Their LP, Old Dominion, released in 2019, occupied the top spot on the Country Albums chart and yielded another modest hit in "One Man Band."

India.Arie is among a small class of post-millennial R&B artists more likely to cite and recall the likes of Bill Withers and Roberta Flack than almost any given artist playlisted by urban contemporary radio stations. Arie entered with Acoustic Soul (2001), an album that carried on the tradition of introspective, additive-resistant singer/songwriter soul. Instantly embraced commercially, critically, and within the music industry, it was a Top Ten, multi-platinum success, and led to nominations in seven Grammy categories, including all of the big four: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist. Although Arie has placed eight singles on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart, she's an album artist through and through. Four subsequent LPs, including the Grammy-winning Voyage to India (2002) and the number one Testimony, Vol. 1: Life & Relationship (2007), all went Top Ten, with Arie making subtle refinements to her writing, shaking up her sound with African, Turkish, and contemporary country musicians instead of seeking hits with hot rappers. After five proper albums with major labels, Arie went independent with the new age crossover SongVersation: Medicine EP (2017), and followed it a couple years later with Worthy (2019).

SYML is the moodier solo venture of Barcelona frontman and Seattle native Brian Fennell. As SYML, Fennell is more textural and sensory than Barcelona's piano rock, framing his quiet, introspective songwriting in low-key synth-augmented soundscapes with austere piano parts and spectral vocals. Debuting in 2016 with the Hurt for Me EP, SYML found success with song placements in a number of high-profile television shows like Elementary, Scream, and Teen Wolf. Subsequent singles "The War" and "Mr. Sandman," a surprisingly dour cover of the 1950s doo wop chestnut, found SYML exploring heavy and ominous themes, though his 2017 follow-up, "Where's My Love," was an altogether more buoyant, folk-inspired track. "Where's My Love" proved to be a hit for SYML and over the next year, it was rolled out in a variety of different forms including an acoustic version, a solo piano version, a Sam Feldt electronic remix, and a duet with Lily Kershaw. The original mix appeared on SYML's 2018 EP, In My Body. In 2019, Fennell issued his eponymous full-length debut SYML.

"The Passenger" is a song by Iggy Pop and Ricky Gardiner, recorded and released by Iggy Pop on the Lust for Life album in 1977. It was also released as the B-side of the album's only single, "Success". It was released as a single in its own right in March 1998, reaching number 22 in the UK Charts.

The lyrics, written by Iggy Pop allegedly aboard Berlin's S-Bahn, have been interpreted as embodying the nomadic spirit of the punk outcast. Guitarist Ricky Gardiner composed the music. The song is loosely based on a poem by Jim Morrison.

In an interview with The Guardian, Iggy Pop spoke about how "The Passenger" was partly inspired by travelling with David Bowie on tour, "...I’d been riding around North America and Europe in David’s car ad infinitum. I didn’t have a driver’s licence or a vehicle."

Led by the abrasive guitars and powerful vocals of Jenny McKenchie, Australian punks Cable Ties blur the lines of punk and rock, with angsty dissonance that has just a hint of AC/DC influence hiding beneath the noise. After forming in 2015, the band played often in Melbourne's D.I.Y. circles and captured their growling sound on albums like 2020's Far Enough.
Cable Ties were formed by guitarist/vocalist McKenchie, bassist Nick Brown, and drummer Shauna Boyle. The group played their debut gig at 2015's annual Wetfest -- a non-binary-inclusive music festival in Melbourne celebrating the city's diverse D.I.Y. scene, curated by McKenchie's other band, Wet Lips. The trio quickly built up a reputation by playing a huge number of live shows in their first year on the local scene. Their first effort was released in March 2016 -- the single "Same for Me" -- followed six months later by a split single with Wet Lips. By the end of 2016, Cable Ties had opened the Meredith Music Festival and earned themselves the "Golden Boot" -- a tradition that involves the crowd unanimously holding their boots and shoes in the air as a seal of approval; they were the first opening band to receive the accolade.

At the beginning of 2017, McKenchie and Boyle helped curate the first Girls Rock! Melbourne event -- an initiative that empowers girls and non-gender youths to get involved in music and music education. The trio then headed out on tour with fellow Aussies Camp Cope and signed a deal with local label Poison City Records; their Paul Maybury-produced eponymous debut album appeared in May. The group again went on tour in support of the release with shows across Australia. In 2019, singles began surfacing in advance of the group's second album, Far Enough. The record took the band's raw sound into more complex places, and arrived in March 2020.

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down shares songs performed exclusively for KEXP and joins Morgan live on KEXP on Thursday, July 9, at 3pm PT.

The bold grooves and high-contrast arrangements of Thao & the Get Down Stay Down are captained by the distinctive, raspy sing-speak of Thao Nguyen, a songwriter who tends toward the musically playful and lyrically heavyhearted. Since debuting the project with We Brave Bee Stings in 2008, Thao and band have collaborated with such esteemed indie producers as Tucker Martine, John Congleton, and Merrill Garbus. The group's fifth album, 2020's Temple, was their first to be produced in-house, by Nguyen and core member Adam Thompson.

Raised in the City of Falls Church, Virginia, Nguyen took up the guitar and songwriting as a pre-teen and was part of a country-pop duo in high school. In 2005, she released a solo album, Like the Linen, which revealed her somewhat gravelly, punky voice and folky indie pop style. She subsequently collaborated on a single with tUnE-yArDs' Merrill Garbus under the name Merrillthaocracy, and formed Thao & the Get Down Stay Down with Like the Linen producer Frank Stewart and fellow College of William and Mary students Adam and Willis Thompson (no relation) in 2006. The band enlisted Tucker Martine to produce We Brave Bee Stings, released on the Kill Rock Stars label in 2008. It was followed by a Nguyen collaboration with labelmates Portland Cello Project and Justin Power called The Thao & Justin Power Sessions, and then a second Thao & the Get Down Stay Down album, Know Better Learn Faster, both in 2009. The latter was made without Stewart but featured guests including Andrew Bird and Jenny Conlee (the Decemberists).

Having relocated to San Francisco, Nguyen released 2011's eponymous Thao & Mirah, a project with singer/songwriter Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn that was co-produced by Garbus. Marking her main band's move to Ribbon Music, another Get Down Stay Down album, We the Common, followed in 2013, this time without Willis Thompson. It was produced by John Congleton and again involved several guests, including Midlake's Paul Alexander and McKenzie Smith. With official membership down to Nguyen and Adam Thompson, the group's nonetheless muscular fourth album, 2016's A Man Alive, was produced by Garbus. After a break during which Nguyen considering retiring from recording and later got married, the duo of Nguyen and Thompson returned in 2020 with the more personal, self-produced Temple.

Though he was the last to join as an official member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Staten Island rapper Cappadonna was affiliated with the supergroup from their beginning. Starting in 1995, his cameo appearances dotted highlights of the sprawling Wu-related discography and his 1998 solo debut, The Pillage, served as a better-late-than-never entrance point for the rapper's steely East Coast rhyme styles.

Cappadonna was born Darryl Hill in 1969. Raised in the Staten Island borough of New York, Cappadonna was rapping in his early teens and was friends from a young age with future Wu-Tang members. He even made music with future Wu rapper U-God, and was part of an early iteration of what eventually became the Wu-Tang Clan. A prison sentence came in the way of a budding music career, however, and Cappadonna was replaced by Method Man as Wu-Tang began their rise to stardom. Once he was released, Cappadonna reconnected with his friends and made his recording debut with a verse on "Ice Cream," a standout single on Raekwon's 1995 solo debut Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. The next year he was featured prominently on Ghostface Killah's Ironman and cemented his status as an official member of Wu-Tang Clan with his appearances on their 1997 sophomore effort Wu-Tang Forever. His 1998 solo debut, The Pillage, was another successful Wu-related release, hitting the Top 10 Billboard charts in its first week. A sophomore effort, The Yin and the Yang, followed in early 2001. The largely autobiographical The Struggle was released in September 2003 on the independent Artists & Producers label. Cappadonna continued appearing on Wu-Tang albums and Wu-adjacent projects such as the Ghostface-led Theodore Unit. For a brief time, he stepped away from the Wu-Tang Clan due to a dispute with RZA over royalties. Ultimately, amends were made and he appeared on the group's 2007 album 8 Diagrams. In 2011 he returned with The Pilgrimage, featuring multiple appearances from Inspectah Deck and Killa Black. His 2013 effort, Eyrth, Wynd & Fyre/Love Anger & Emotion, was a double-disc effort on RBC with the second disc introducing his protégés, rappers Lounge Mode and Sav Killz. Throughout the 2010s, Cappadonna stayed busy releasing projects that included 2013's Slang Prostitution, 2014's Hook Off, 2015's The Pillage 2, and 2018's Ear Candy. In 2019 he returned with "No Love Lost," a collaborative single with Joe Young and Hanz On that stuck closely to the classic Wu-Tang production style of hard-hitting drums and cinematic soul samples.
