In May 2020, Derulo confirmed that after a lengthy negotiation, he had left his record contract with Warner Bros. Records due to creative differences. By leaving the label, Derulo also cancelled the release of 2Sides (Side 2), but confirmed that new music would arrive later in 2020. In June 2020, Derulo sparked controversy after he released a song titled "Savage Love", without properly clearing and attributing a prominent sample in the song to New Zealand music producer Jawsh 685. The clearance issue was resolved and the song, which went viral on TikTok, was eventually re-released as "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)", credited to both artists. The song peaked at number one in the UK, becoming Derulo's 5th number one in the country and Jawsh 685's first number one single.

A singer and songwriter who makes an assertive, atmospheric brand of electro-pop, Eves Karydas is the stage alias of Hannah Karydas, formerly known as Eves the Behavior. Born and raised in Cairns, Australia until her family relocated to Brisbane during her early teens, she learned at the age of 15 that she had synesthesia -- in her case, the ability to hear sounds and see them as colors. Until then, she had assumed the experience was commonplace. Karydas relocated again at the age of 18 in 2015, this time to London, England to actively pursue a career in music. That same year, the Dew Process label released her self-titled debut EP as Eves the Behavior.

After rebranding herself Eves Karydas, she reemerged in 2017 with "There for You," a single co-produced by Chris Zane (Passion Pit, St. Lucia).

Mavis Staples is a legend, but she's not stuck in the past. You probably know her work with her family band, The Staple Singers, which was all over the radio in the '70s with hits like "Respect Yourself," "Let's Do It Again" and "I'll Take You There" (which she excerpts in her performance here).

What you may not know is that Mavis Staples has been actively working with her fellow Chicago musician (and Wilco leader) Jeff Tweedy on her upcoming album, You Are Not Alone. Tweedy produced the record and wrote a few songs for her, as well — including the title track, which she sings here.

The album was recorded at Wilco's studio, The Loft, and it includes songs by John Fogerty, Randy Newman, Rev. Gary Davis, Allen Toussaint and Pops Staples. You Are Not Alone also features a fine guest roster, including not only Tweedy (on bass, guitar and vocals), but also Nora O'Connor, Kelly Hogan and Wilco's Patrick Sansone on keys and vibes.

Rick Holmstrom, the skilled guitarist who accompanies Staples here, also plays on the record and in her touring band. And while You Are Not Alone doesn't come out until Sept. 14, you can get a good idea of what a treat it is by watching this stripped-down but soulful Tiny Desk concert.

Description : The Selecter - On my radio - 20-12-1979 • Tros Top 50

The Selecter are a 2 Tone ska revival band from Coventry, England, formed in mid-1979.

The Selecter featured a diverse line-up, both in terms of race and gender, initially consisting of Arthur 'Gaps' Hendrickson and Pauline Black on lead vocals, Neol Davies and Compton Amanor on guitar, Desmond Brown on Hammond organ, Charley 'H' Bembridge on drums, and Charley Anderson on bass. The band's name is based on the term "selector", which is a Jamaican word for disc jockey. The band were one of the most successful ska bands of the 2 Tone era, notching up several top forty singles in the British charts. Having co-released the first 2 Tone Ska single with The Specials, they are considered one of the founding acts of the movement. Though highly influential, the original lineup only remained together for a year, and even with replacement players the band only continued until breaking up in 1981.

The new band released the singles "On My Radio", "Three Minute Hero" and "Missing Words", written by Neol Davies.

This single reached #10 in the Dutch Top 40 in February 1980 and #8 in the UK Top 100.

This is a recording made by TROS TV's TROS TOP 50 on 20 December 1979

Houston rapper Trae tha Truth (who has also performed as just Trae) has been an H-town staple since the late '90s when he made his debut on Z-Ro's Look What You Did to Me. Born Frazier Othel Thompson, Trae is a member of both the Screwed Up Click and Guerilla Maab, as well as a part of the duo ABN ("Assholes by Nature"), who released two LPs in the early 2000s. Trae's first album, Losing Composure, was released in 2003, and featured a number of other local favorites like Bun B, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire. He followed with Same Thing Different Day and Restless before branching out to a wider audience with 2008's Life Goes On, which brought in Lil Wayne and Jadakiss. That year, the mayor of Houston would declare July 22 as Trae Day, an honor awarded to the rapper for his work with the local community.

In 2011, Trae released Street King. The effort was packed with guests like Jadakiss, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Wyclef Jean, Shawty Lo, Wale, and Big Boi, among others. Soon after, he signed with T.I.'s Grand Hustle label. After releasing the mixtape I Am King, his Grand Hustle debut was issued in 2015. Tha Truth -- which featured Future, Boosie Badazz, J. Cole, and Rich Homie Quan -- debuted on the Billboard 200 and peaked in the Top 15 of both the hip-hop and rap charts. A sequel -- his eighth LP overall -- arrived in 2016. Tha Truth, Pt. 2 featured appearances by B.o.B, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Wiz Khalifa, Yo Gotti, Young Thug, and many more. He closed the trilogy in 2017 with Tha Truth, Pt. 3, which was a Billboard Independent chart Top 40.

A month after the release of Pt. 3, Trae's hometown of Houston was hit by Hurricane Harvey. In the aftermath of the devastation wrought by the storm, Trae engaged in relief and rebuilding efforts. After he was given the key to the city, he issued the appropriately titled Hometown Hero, which featured T.I., Mozzy, Young Thug, Boosie Badazz, and others. Three months later, Trae issued 48 Hours Later, a sequel mixtape to his 2016 release Another 48 Hours. His next proper album, Exhale, appeared in August 2019.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again is a highly prolific rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana who has attracted a loyal following for his uncompromising street narratives. He debuted as one of 2015-2016's rising talents, but that trajectory altered slightly after a six-month prison sentence. Following his release in 2017, he became a regular fixture on the Billboard charts, frequently issuing mixtapes, EPs, and singles. His debut album, Until Death Call My Name, hit the Top 10 when it appeared in 2018, and 2019 mixtape AI YoungBoy 2 topped the chart.
