A strong lyricist adept at telling gritty street narratives, Harlem-based MC Dave East has a style heavily reminiscent of '90s New York hardcore rap, while sounding fresh enough to compete with the contemporary hip-hop landscape. After building a buzz with several independent mixtapes during the early 2010s, East caught the attention of his favorite rapper, Nas, who signed him to Mass Appeal. Several Billboard-charting releases followed, including 2016's Kairi Chanel and 2017's Paranoia: A True Story.

In 2017, he issued the single "Perfect" with Chris Brown. The song appeared on Paranoia: A True Story, East's Def Jam debut, which also featured appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Jeezy, and Nas, and reached the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. Following the late 2017 release Karma, Paranoia 2 followed in early 2018; guests included T.I., Lloyd Banks, and Marsha Ambrosius. The independently released mixtape Karma 2 appeared later that summer, just as the emcee was touring with Lauryn Hill. East wrapped up his prolific year with a hard-hitting collaboration with the Lox's Styles P on Beloved, which debuted at number 70 on the Billboard 200. The following year saw East issue the singles "Everyday" with Gunna and "Wanna Be a G" with Max B. Both tracks appeared on his 2019 official studio effort Survival, which debuted on the Billboard 200 just outside the Top 10. The star-studded set also featured appearances by DJ Premier, Nas, Teyana Taylor, Rick Ross, the-Dream, Fabolous, Jacquees, Mozzy, E-40, and many more.

A versatile, female-fronted metalcore unit based out of Ukraine, Jinjer have found success both in their Eastern European homeland and abroad with their punitive blend of post-hardcore and death/progressive/nu-metal. Drawing from a wide array of influences, including R&B, soul, hip-hop, and the full spectrum of heavy metal, the band formed in 2009 and features a lineup consisting of Tatiana Shmailyuk (vocals), Roman Ibramkhalilov (guitar), Eugene Abdiukhanov (bass), and Vladislav Ulasevich (drums). Jinjer issued a pair of EPs, 2009's OIMACTTA and 2012's Inhale, Do Not Breathe, before breaking big at home with the release of a full-length version of the latter album in 2013. The group's sophomore long-player, 2014's Cloud Factory, caught the attention of heavy metal institution Napalm, which signed Jinjer and released their third full-length effort, King of Everything, in 2016. The group toured heavily in support of the LP, hitting the European festival circuit and making their presence known overseas as well. In early 2019, the band returned with the Micro EP, again on Napalm. By the end of the year, its natural counterpoint, Macro, arrived.

A Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Jeremy Ivey established himself in the early 2010s as a member of the country-soul band Buffalo Clover alongside his wife, singer/songwriter Margo Price. When Price's career took off in 2016, Ivey served as her guitarist and sideman before signing a deal with Anti- and launching a solo career of his own with 2019's The Dream and the Dreamer.

Growing up in a conservative family in Georgia, Ivey spent a number of years bouncing around the country, working in kitchens and playing guitar. He eventually ended up in Nashville where he met Price. Creative and romantic partners, the couple spent some time in Colorado busking and writing songs together before heading back to Music City, where they eventually married and became active in the local indie scene. After playing a background role in various local bands, including the Secret Handshake, Ivey and Price formed Buffalo Clover in 2008. The band's vintage-inspired country, rock, and soul earned them an audience, and over the next several years, they released three albums together. When Price released her solo debut, 2016's acclaimed Midwest Farmer's Daughter, Ivey continued to act as her collaborator and lead guitarist over the next few years. In 2019, after years working as a collaborator and supporting other artists, he took his own turn in the spotlight, signing a deal with Anti- to make an album of his own. Released in September of that year, Ivey's debut, The Dream and the Dreamer, offered a mix of warm, guitar-driven country rock and folk with a light touch of psychedelia.

Tchaikovsky - "Waltz from Serenade For Strings (Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie)" [Classical]

Waltz from Serenade For Strings (Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie)

"Waltz from Serenade For Strings (Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie)" music video by Tchaikovsky
Added: 09-09-2020

The musicians:

Yves Abel [conductor]

Recording: The Sunday Morning Concert of Sunday the 6th September of 2020 in Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

-

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48, was composed in 1880.

Serenade for Strings has 4 movements:

Pezzo in forma di sonatina: Andante non troppo — Allegro moderato
Valse: Moderato — Tempo di valse
Élégie: Larghetto elegiaco
Finale (Tema russo): Andante — Allegro con spirito
Tchaikovsky intended the first movement to be an imitation of Mozart's style, and it was based on the form of the classical sonatina, with a slow introduction. The stirring 36-bar Andante introduction is marked "sempre marcatissimo" and littered with double-stopping in the violins and violas, forming towering chordal structures. This introduction is restated at the end of the movement, and then reappears, transformed, in the coda of the fourth movement, tying the entire work together.

On the second page of the score, Tchaikovsky wrote, "The larger number of players in the string orchestra, the more this shall be in accordance with the author's wishes."

The second movement, Valse, has become a popular piece in its own right.

The Pastels, 1997: Stephen McRobbie, Annabel Wright, Katrina Mitchell, Jonathan Kilgour, Tom Crossley. Made available as a 7” single for Record Store Day 2020.

David Berman: "Hi, I got the Peel Sessions tape. i don't know what to say. The song is amazing. I am incredibly honored. Thank you. I guess The Pastels has become my favorite band. I listen to the three cds all the time and wear my t-shirt around town.”

Shot by Aki Okauchi, edited by John Hogarty

-

Although virtually unknown outside of indie rock circles, the Pastels were one of the most inspirational and enduring groups of the genre, in their early days spearheading a movement toward a renewed sense of wistful musical primitivism and willful naivete known variously as "shambling" and "anorak pop." In addition, their influence helped bring international notice to a resurgent Scottish musical community, with frontman Stephen Pastel's legendary 53rd and 3rd label helping to launch the careers of bands including the Jesus & Mary Chain, Shop Assistants, BMX Bandits, the Vaselines, and the Soup Dragons. Formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1982, the band initially comprised vocalist/guitarist Pastel (nee McRobbie), guitarist Brian Superstar (born Brian Taylor), and drummer Chris Gordon; they debuted that autumn on the Whaam label with the single "Songs for Children," but Gordon soon exited, the first of many subsequent lineup shuffles.

"Wonderful Land" is an instrumental piece written by Jerry Lordan recorded and released as a single by The Shadows in 1962. It stayed at No. 1 for eight weeks in the UK Singles Chart; more weeks than any other single during the whole of the 1960s.

Lordan had previously written the hugely successful Apache (instrumental) for The Shadows in 1960, and it was recorded in May 1961 by The Shadows' original line up of Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Jet Harris and Tony Meehan. The strings were added later by producer Norrie Paramor. By the time of the song's release, Tony Meehan had left the group to be replaced by Brian Bennett who co-wrote the B-side "Stars Fell on Stockton". The group was in a period of transition and whilst the song was at No. 1 Jet Harris left to be replaced by Brian Locking.

South African singer/songwriter Garett van der Spek (aka Gary V) utilizes a combination of guitars, electronica, and vocals to create an atmospheric yet structured sound. Born in Durban, South Africa, Spek was raised on the rock & roll records owned by his father. When he went to school, he eagerly formed his first band. It wasn't until he moved to America in 2000, however, that a career in music began to take shape. Soon after arriving in Seattle, he formed a three-piece punk band known as Koko & the Sweetmeats. Just as they had begun to build a local following, the bandmembers parted ways, setting the stage for Spek's solo career.

In 2014 he moved to Los Angeles, a city that would cultivate his enthusiasm for music through new creative contacts and an ever-growing audience. Initial live shows consisted of Spek on guitar and vocals backed by a drum machine and bass synth. However, as his popularity grew, he hired a drummer and a bassist in place of the machines. In the studio, Spek handled almost everything by himself until he was introduced to Chris Woodhouse (Ty Segall, Wild Flag, !!!), who undertook the production duties for his debut album. Gary V's self-titled full-length saw release in 2016 via the ANTI label. He spent the next year on the road, both as a headliner and a supporting act, sharing the stage with Guided by Voices, Surfer Blood, and Nada Surf, before heading back into the studio to begin work on his sophomore effort. The resulting Mamba, a more concept-driven outing, was recorded with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall) and released in 2018.

Description : Tee-Set - Little Lady - Pop van Jan de With - 08-09-1971 • TopPop

Broadcast date: 08/09/1971

-

Tee-Set was a pop rock band formed in 1966 in Delft, Netherlands. The group recorded a single in 1969 titled "Ma Belle Amie", which was a hit in their native country, selling over 100,000 copies. The group released an album in the United States on Colossus Records in 1970 titled Ma Belle Amie (the single of the same name listing the artist as 'The Tee Set'), which reached #158 on the Billboard 200 chart, just as the single took off in the United States, eventually reaching #5. The single sold over 1 million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. The version of "Ma Belle Amie" released in 1970 on Major Minor records in the UK is a different studio version of the song, slower in tempo and beginning in a lower key than the hit U.S. version. In the Netherlands, the next single "She Likes Weeds" attained #1. The track was banned in the U.S. because it was said to be referring to drug use; however, the title had been taken from the film Funeral in Berlin. The follow-up single "If You Do Believe in Love" hit #81. The group disbanded in 1975, but briefly reunited in 1979 and 1983. Since 1983 the band was revived, although its work was mainly nostalgic "sixties".

Former lead singer Peter Tetteroo died in September 2002 from liver cancer at the age of 55.[

JEGONG is the amalgamation of two distinct forces within post-rock and heavy music, Dahm Majuri Cipolla, drummer of MONO (Japan) & Watter, and Reto Mäder of Sum Of R. Together the pair is readying their debut longplayer I for release on October 20th via Berlin-based Pelagic Records, helmed by members of beloved post-metallers The Ocean. Bursting with new ideas while tipping their hat to legends of yore, the duo’s energies focus on the crossroads between Krautrock, ambient and post-rock, bringing to mind acts ranging from Ash Ra Tempel, GAS, Cluster, Mogwai and more while blazing trails with their electronic-forward approach.

JEGONG, named in tribute to a track by Cluster’s Dieter Moebius, was formed by shared musical influence and a friendship developed during a European tour when Sum Of R and Cipolla’s band Watter intersected during the former’s routing towards the highly respected European festival Roadburn. During their encounters, the pair bonded over the musical output of the early 70s, specifically the intersection of electronic music and boundary-pushing experimentalism found in Krautrock that gave rise to classic acts like Can, Faust, Tangerine Dream, Neu! and more. In this spirit, if not also musically, is where the soul of the JEGONG project lies– melodic, genre-pushing, fascinating and honoring the past while looking toward the future.

The classic Krautrock movement may provide the bedrock for all that is JEGONG, but the project is far from a “worship” band. Instead of aping core elements of the movement, the duo used the style as a launch pad to move into uncharted realms– thereby conjuring the original, truly bold spirit of the style. The result is a record without inhibition– delving deep into psychedelia, ambient, repetition, post-rock and even elements of dystopian sci-fi soundtracks like Blade Runner and Metropolis during the LP’s 70+ minute runtime. "With JeGong we don't want to copy the Krautrock style,” reiterates Mäder. “We see our project more as a creative playground to celebrate the playful and experimental approach from earlier Krautrock using organic sounds and textures from analogue sounds to explore mood.”

Created in the tail end of 2019, the LP was an exercise in social distancing with Reto Mäder recording all of the instrumentation at Hinterzimmer in Bern, Switzerland and Dahm Majuri Cipolla adding in the drums at BC Studio in NYC with Martin Bisi (Swans, Sonic Youth), where it was also partially mixed. With additional mixing and mastering taking place in Finland with Jaakko Viitalähde (Oranssi Pazuzu, Dark Buddha Rising), the wholly remote record presented a challenge in creating a collaborative effort while separated by half a world at every turn. “It was pretty interesting doing the tracks separated by many many miles between Switzerland and the U.S.,” recalls Cipolla. “For this particular collection of songs Reto would send me these ideas and I would come up with rhythmic patterns to fit. We wanted a combination of atmospheric sounds/progressions over rhythmic pulses and minimal, and sometimes repetitive, drumming.” And though the pair never shared a room, that also had it’s advantages as well. “You pay much more attention to sound as a common language,” explains Mäder. “Music takes on different forms according to the conditions in which it was recorded– whether that’s rooms, distance and time. We’re excited to also showcase another form of our songs– bringing them to the live stage."

Consisting of 14 tracks, the debut effort from JeGong is emblematic of the adventurous spirit at the dawn of electronic music converging with the wide-eyed wonder toward experimentation found at the height of the psychedelic movement. Using processed guitars and heavily manipulated synths, Mäder creates vast atmospheric architecture in which Cipolla’s tasteful yet propulsive percussion adds a backbone and the unexpected twist. The combination pays homage to the greats of yesteryear while adding influence from artists ranging from Grouper to Sunn 0))) to Zombi. JEGONG not only tips its hat to the Krautrock era, but also reimagines the movement with new approaches and updated ideas. “To me, it’s about our mutual love for 70’s German music without being blatant about it,” comments Cipolla..”It’s a tribute but it’s done our way– honoring these heroes in the only way we can.”

Riley Green received his first big break as a contestant on the fourth season of CMT's reality series Redneck Island, and he parlayed that into a career as a straight-ahead country singer in the late 2010s. A native of Alabama, Green grew up equally interested in sports and music. The latter he learned from his grandfather, Bufford Green, who ran a music joint while Riley was growing up. After attending Jacksonville State University, Green began pursuing a career in showbiz. In 2013, he released an eponymous EP. The following year, he signed up for the fourth season of Redneck Island, CMT's country spin on Survivor. Redneck Island raised Green's profile, bringing him to a wider audience. He took advantage of these new listeners by releasing the Bury Me in Dixie EP in 2015 and the County Line EP in 2016. The next year brought Outlaws Like Us. In June 2018, Green issued the In a Truck Right Now EP, which included the title track and the hit single "There Was This Girl." Another EP, Get That Man a Beer, appeared in June 2019, followed by his debut album, Different 'Round Here, that September.

Australia's Celia Pavey (aka Vera Blue) is a lyrical singer/songwriter who combines her love of folk music with moody electronica. Born in Forbes, Australia in 1994, Pavey grew up listening to classic folk and pop music of the '60s and '70s while spending time surrounded by nature in her horticulturalist father's nursery. By her teens, she was a gifted performer who could sing, and play guitar and violin. In 2013, she auditioned for and won a spot on The Voice Australia with her emotive rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair/Canticle." A fan favorite, she ultimately finished in second place on the talent competition show, after which she released debut full-length album, This Music, on Universal. The album was well-received and peaked at number 14 on the ARIA charts. An EP, Bodies, followed a year later.

Despite her initial success, Pavey was restless to try something different and incorporate other influences into her sound. After meeting sibling-producers Andy and Thom Mak, she began writing new material and experimenting with mixing her folk style with atmospheric beats and electronics. To mark the change in her approach, she adopted the stage name Vera Blue and in 2016 released the EP Fingertips. A year later, she delivered a full-length album, Perennial, which featured the singles "Private," "Mended," and "Regular Touch." The album reached number six on the ARIA Albums Chart.
