Stratovarius - one of the most famous symphonic metal bands in the world, managed to establish themselves as one of the top names in the metal scene and have since influenced bands all over the world.

The Finnish band gained international success with albums like “Fourth Dimension” (1995), “Episode” (1996) and their epic project “Elements,Pt.1” (a peak in their Progressive and Symphonic style of Power Metal) and “Elements, Pt.2” - to name just a few of the band‘s milestones.

At the latest with their fifth album “Episode” Stratovarius had found their sound and followers like “Destiny” (1998) and “Infinite” (2000) helped expanding their fame and fan-base.

After 2005‘s “Stratovarius” the band released “Polaris” in 2009 - this at the time being their 12th studio album, but also a brand new start after guitarist and band leader TimoTolkki had left the band after ongoing fights. Instead of being a difficult re-start “Polaris” showed Stratovarius on top form and still able to captivate people all over the world: “Polaris“ became a hell of a comeback and charted higher than the previous releases around the globe. 2011 not only marked the release of the band‘s 13th, most successful and best album to date but also the announcement of long term member and drummer Jörg Michael‘s withdrawal who left the band after 15 years for personal reasons.

The news of Jörg‘s withdrawal in September 2011 was a shock for all Stratovarius fans.

To say goodbye to a friend, hero and member who characterized the band‘s sound for over a decade, the band headed to a 5 show spanning Farewell Tour in Finland in November.
Stratovarius released a 2h spanning live show filmed and recorded in Tampere, Finland, November 19th 2011. This is one of the very last shows with drummer and key-member Jörg Michael.
“Under Flaming Winter Skies - Live In Tampere“ marks the end of an era as well as a new beginning.

And the Forests Dream Eternally is the debut EP by Polish extreme metal band Behemoth. It was released in August 1995, through Italian label Enthopy Records.

The EP was recorded in July 1994 in Warrior Studio.

"Pure Evil and Hate" is a tribute to Bathory. It is one of the band's most popular songs and is often a closer for live performances.

The EP was re-released in 1997 by Last Episode Records in a split with Forbidden Spaces by Polish black metal band Damnation. It was re-issued again in 2005, with the tracks from another Behemoth EP, Bewitching the Pomerania, as bonus tracks. On September 18, 2020 the EP will be re-released again, by Metal Blade Records. This re-issue includes nine bonus tracks and comes in different coloured vinyl and double CD format.

A leading light in the Polish metal scene, Behemoth emerged in the early 1990s with a caustic cocktail of black and death metal that was made all the more punitive by a heavy dose of religious provocation. Both sonically and socially pugilistic -- they were criminally charged by the Polish government for tearing up a bible and emblazoning the country's coat of arms on a T-shirt -- the band released their first full-length recording, 1995's Sventevith, to favorable reviews. Subsequent albums like Demigod (2004), The Apostasy (20070, The Satanist (2014), and I Loved You at Your Darkest (2018) displayed a wide musical vision that incorporated folk music, synthesizers, choirs, and orchestras, while still managing to retain their brutal, extreme metal sound. The group endured numerous lineup shifts during their career, with founding singer/guitarist Nergal being the only constant member.

Employing an earworm-heavy blend of hard rock and blues, Greta Van Fleet emerged in the mid-2010s while the bandmembers were still in their teens. Raised on a steady diet of classic FM vinyl, the sibling-led group's brawny blend of stadium rock and rhythm & blues invoked both the Who and Led Zeppelin, with the latter act looming large due to frontman Josh Kiszka's sonic similitude to Zep crooner Robert Plant. Choice placement in a 2017 episode of Showtime's Shameless drove the fiery single "Highway Tune" up the charts, and by 2018 the band was appearing on everything from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to Elton John's Academy Award Party.

Raised on rock in the Michigan city of Frankenmuth -- a small town known as "Little Bavaria" and best known for Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, a Christmas paradise that's open year-round -- the brothers Kiszka (twins Josh on vocals and Jake on guitar, plus younger brother Sam on bass) formed the band in 2012 with drummer Kyle Hauck, who was swapped out for Daniel Wagner in 2013. Early in 2014, they recorded a live EP -- aptly titled Greta Van Fleet: Live in Detroit -- and soon their original, "Standing On," appeared in a Detroit ad for the Chevy Equinox. Soon, the group was signed to Lava Records by Jason Flom and the label pushed "Highway Tune" in early 2017, landing it on the Showtime series Shameless and using it as the anchor for their debut EP, Black Smoke Rising.

Later that November, the band dropped a double EP, From the Fires, which included one album consisting of four new tracks and another four-song set that reassembled their Black Smoke Rising EP. In the U.S., From the Fires topped Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart and rocketed Greta Van Fleet to global success, charting throughout Europe and reaching number four in New Zealand. Endorsements from classic rock icons soon followed, with fellow Michigander Bob Seger pegging them to open a show and Robert Plant going on record to say that "they are Led Zeppelin I."

In July of 2018, Greta Van Fleet issued "When the Curtain Falls," the first single from their debut Anthem of the Peaceful Army, which arrived in October. The album was met with some notoriously scathing reviews, many critics pulling no punches in tearing apart the band's Zeppelin-informed throwback sound and image. Nonetheless, it was a hit with fans and sold well, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 and topping the rock albums chart. At the 61st annual Grammys, the band was nominated for Best New Artist as well as Best Rock Performance for "Highway Tune." Though they didn't win in those categories, From the Fires took home the Grammy for Best Rock Album.

Slik - "Requiem (TopPop)" [Rock & Alternative]

Requiem (TopPop)

"Requiem (TopPop)" music video by Slik
Added: 21-09-2020
Genre : Rock & Alternative
Description : Slik - Requiem • TopPop

Slik were a Scottish pop group of the mid-1970s, most notable for their UK number 1 hit "Forever and Ever" in 1976. Initially glam rock, the band later changed their style to soft rock/bubblegum. It was the first band with whom singer and guitarist Midge Ure began to experience musical success, before joining new wave band Ultravox.

"Requiem" opens with the first chords of Joaquín Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez", which had been a number 3 hit just two months before in the UK for Geoff Love's orchestra, billed as 'Manuel & the Music of the Mountains'. Following the "Requiem" single, the band's self-titled album was released but this was a commercial failure, peaking only at number 58 in the UK. Subsequent Slik singles failed to chart.

Philly's Frances Quinlan is best known as frontwoman of the acclaimed indie rock band Hop Along, which she originally started as a solo project. In 2020, she released her debut, Likewise, under her own name.

Born in Manhattan but brought up in Philadelphia, Quinlan initially took oil painting classes before getting into music. Largely inspired by acts like Ani DiFranco, Patty Griffin, Fiona Apple, and Bright Eyes, she also maintained a looser interest in metal acts to which she was introduced by her elder brother Mark. While still a senior in high school, she began writing and performing solo acoustic indie folk music under the name Hop Along, Queen Ansleis, releasing her debut album under that moniker, Freshman Year, in 2005. She performed as Hop Along, Queen Ansleis for several years before recruiting her brother on drums, bassist Tyler Long, and guitarist Joe Reinhart to turn the project into a full band. For the group's first album, 2012's Get Disowned, they shortened the name to Hop Along. Quinlan's incisive, thoughtful lyricism earned the band a devoted fan base, and they signed to Saddle Creek for the albums Painted Shut (2015) and Bark Your Head Off, Dog (2018). Wanting to explore music that didn't fit with the sound of the band, Quinlan decided to record a solo album. 2020's Likewise saw her augmenting her usual guitar-based sound with synths, harps, strings, and programmed beats; produced by Quinlan and Reinhart, it was recorded at his studio, The Headroom.

Tone-Tone is a rapper from Detroit who debuted in 2004 and experienced some local success with singles such as "I Ain't Playin' Witcha" and "What Up Doe." Born Antonio Henderson in 1984 in Detroit, MI, he attended Finney High School and began rapping at age nine. At age 18 he made his full-length album debut with Skoolz in Session (2004). Released on the local independent label Wide Open Records, Skoolz in Session spawned the local hit single "I Ain't Playin' Witcha," which was given lots of radio airplay in Detroit. Tone-Tone was subsequently signed to a recording contract with Sho'nuff Records, the label of Southern rap producer Jazze Pha, and released a series of mixtapes on his own label, New Skool Entertainment: Strictly fo da Streetz (2005), Ride with Cha Boy (2006), and Motivation for da New Generation (2007). Nothing came of the association with Jazze Pha, however, and Tone-Tone returned to Wide Open Records for the release of his second album, D-Boy Fresh (2007), which features the single "Luv da Way She Doin' It."

Blending quintessentially British influences like the Beatles, Sex Pistols, and the Smiths with American indie rock like Beat Happening and Bobby Conn, Yorkshire, England's the Cribs feature three brothers: vocalist/guitarist Ryan Jarman, bassist/vocalist Gary, and drummer Ross. The trio began playing together at an early age, debuting at a family party in the late '80s when twins Gary and Ryan were nine years old and Ross was just five. After officially forming in 2001, the Cribs got to play with both Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson and Conn, who invited them to record with him in his Chicago studio. The Cribs released three singles, Another Number, What About Me, and You Were Always the One, before signing to Wichita Records in late 2003. The band spent 2004 readying its self-titled debut album, which was recorded in London's Toerag Studios; touring with the Datsuns; and performing at that year's CMJ Festival. Late that year they began working on their second album with Orange Juice's Edwyn Collins as producer.

The Cribs was released in the U.S. in early 2005. Later in the year, the band issued its second album, The New Fellas. Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever, which boasted production by Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos, arrived in 2007. That same year, Gary met Johnny Marr, an admitted fan of the band. They began collaborating on some songs, with Marr joining the band on-stage throughout the 2008 NME awards tour. By August 2008, Marr had officially joined the band, and the resulting album, Ignore the Ignorant, arrived late in 2009. In April of 2011, Marr announced he was quitting the group to work on solo material. Back to their original trio lineup, the Jarmans recorded songs at Dave Fridmann's upstate New York Tarbox Studios; at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago; and at London's Abbey Road Studios. The results, the raw but tuneful In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, arrived in May 2012. Early in 2013, the compilation Payola arrived, which collected songs from the early period of their career that spanned 2002-2012.

In 2014, the Cribs began writing sessions in Portland, Oregon before heading to New York's Magic Shop studio with producer Ric Ocasek to work on their sixth album, 2015's For All My Sisters. After the Cribs finished their tour for that album, they reunited with Albini in November 2016 to expand on a batch of songs recorded with him during the Brazen Bull sessions; what started as an EP became 2017's raw full-length 24-7 Rockstar Shit, a set that harked back to the band's early days.

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released in 1965. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and produced by Andrew Loog Oldham. Richards' guitar riff—?intended to be replaced by horns—?opens and drives the song. The lyrics refer to sexual frustration and commercialism.

The song was first released as a single in the United States in June 1965 and was also featured on the American version of the Rolling Stones' fourth studio album, Out of Our Heads, released that July. "Satisfaction" was a hit, giving the Stones their first number one in the US. In the UK, the song initially was played only on pirate radio stations, because its lyrics were considered too sexually suggestive. It later became the Rolling Stones' fourth number one in the United Kingdom.

It is one of the world's most popular songs, and is second on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, and it is the 5th best ranked song on critics' all-time lists according to Acclaimed Music. The song was added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2006.

One of the leading lights of the European metal resurgence in the mid- to late '90s, Sweden's Hammerfall helped bring melodic power metal back to the forefront of a scene that was struggling to find its footing amidst the alt-rock/grunge boom. Emerging in 1997 with the Swedish Grammy-winning Glory to the Brave, subsequent outings like Renegade (2000), Threshold (2006), (r)Evolution (2014), and Dominion (2019) proved to be just as popular throughout Europe and the Americas as they were at home, with multiple releases going gold.
