"Ghost City", taken from JEGONG's debut album "I".

JEGONG is the amalgamation of two distinct forces within post-rock and heavy music, Dahm Majuri Cipolla, drummer of MONO (Japan) & Watter, and Reto Mäder of Sum Of R. Together the pair is readying their debut longplayer I for release on October 20th via Berlin-based Pelagic Records, helmed by members of beloved post-metallers The Ocean. Bursting with new ideas while tipping their hat to legends of yore, the duo’s energies focus on the crossroads between Krautrock, ambient and post-rock, bringing to mind acts ranging from Ash Ra Tempel, GAS, Cluster, Mogwai and more while blazing trails with their electronic-forward approach.

JEGONG, named in tribute to a track by Cluster’s Dieter Moebius, was formed by shared musical influence and a friendship developed during a European tour when Sum Of R and Cipolla’s band Watter intersected during the former’s routing towards the highly respected European festival Roadburn. During their encounters, the pair bonded over the musical output of the early 70s, specifically the intersection of electronic music and boundary-pushing experimentalism found in Krautrock that gave rise to classic acts like Can, Faust, Tangerine Dream, Neu! and more. In this spirit, if not also musically, is where the soul of the JEGONG project lies– melodic, genre-pushing, fascinating and honoring the past while looking toward the future.

The classic Krautrock movement may provide the bedrock for all that is JEGONG, but the project is far from a “worship” band. Instead of aping core elements of the movement, the duo used the style as a launch pad to move into uncharted realms– thereby conjuring the original, truly bold spirit of the style. The result is a record without inhibition– delving deep into psychedelia, ambient, repetition, post-rock and even elements of dystopian sci-fi soundtracks like Blade Runner and Metropolis during the LP’s 70+ minute runtime. "With JeGong we don't want to copy the Krautrock style,” reiterates Mäder. “We see our project more as a creative playground to celebrate the playful and experimental approach from earlier Krautrock using organic sounds and textures from analogue sounds to explore mood.”

Created in the tail end of 2019, the LP was an exercise in social distancing with Reto Mäder recording all of the instrumentation at Hinterzimmer in Bern, Switzerland and Dahm Majuri Cipolla adding in the drums at BC Studio in NYC with Martin Bisi (Swans, Sonic Youth), where it was also partially mixed. With additional mixing and mastering taking place in Finland with Jaakko Viitalähde (Oranssi Pazuzu, Dark Buddha Rising), the wholly remote record presented a challenge in creating a collaborative effort while separated by half a world at every turn. “It was pretty interesting doing the tracks separated by many many miles between Switzerland and the U.S.,” recalls Cipolla. “For this particular collection of songs Reto would send me these ideas and I would come up with rhythmic patterns to fit. We wanted a combination of atmospheric sounds/progressions over rhythmic pulses and minimal, and sometimes repetitive, drumming.” And though the pair never shared a room, that also had it’s advantages as well. “You pay much more attention to sound as a common language,” explains Mäder. “Music takes on different forms according to the conditions in which it was recorded– whether that’s rooms, distance and time. We’re excited to also showcase another form of our songs– bringing them to the live stage."

Consisting of 14 tracks, the debut effort from JeGong is emblematic of the adventurous spirit at the dawn of electronic music converging with the wide-eyed wonder toward experimentation found at the height of the psychedelic movement. Using processed guitars and heavily manipulated synths, Mäder creates vast atmospheric architecture in which Cipolla’s tasteful yet propulsive percussion adds a backbone and the unexpected twist. The combination pays homage to the greats of yesteryear while adding influence from artists ranging from Grouper to Sunn 0))) to Zombi. JEGONG not only tips its hat to the Krautrock era, but also reimagines the movement with new approaches and updated ideas. “To me, it’s about our mutual love for 70’s German music without being blatant about it,” comments Cipolla..”It’s a tribute but it’s done our way– honoring these heroes in the only way we can.”

House Of The Rising Sun (Live)

"House Of The Rising Sun (Live)" music video by The Animals
Added: 07-10-2020

Description : The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun

-

"The House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional folk song, sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues". It tells of a person's life gone wrong in the city of New Orleans; many versions also urge a sibling or parents and children to avoid the same fate. The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by British rock group The Animals, was a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and also in the United States and France. As a traditional folk song recorded by an electric rock band, it has been described as the "first folk rock hit".

An interview with Eric Burdon revealed that he first heard the song in a club in Newcastle, England, where it was sung by the Northumbrian folk singer Johnny Handle. The Animals were on tour with Chuck Berry and chose it because they wanted something distinctive to sing.

The Animals had begun featuring their arrangement of "House of the Rising Sun" during a joint concert tour with Chuck Berry, using it as their closing number to differentiate themselves from acts that always closed with straight rockers. It got a tremendous reaction from the audience, convincing initially reluctant producer Mickie Most that it had hit potential, and between tour stops the group went to a small recording studio on Kingsway in London to capture it.

The song was recorded in just one take on May 18, 1964, and it starts with a now-famous electric guitar A minor chord arpeggio by Hilton Valentine. According to Valentine, he simply took Dylan's chord sequence and played it as an arpeggio. The performance takes off with Burdon's lead vocal, which has been variously described as "howling", "soulful", and as "...deep and gravelly as the north-east English coal town of Newcastle that spawned him". Finally, Alan Price's pulsating organ part (played on a Vox Continental) completes the sound. Burdon later said, "We were looking for a song that would grab people's attention".

Description : The Doors - Light My Fire (1967)

-

"Light My Fire" is a song by the American rock band the Doors. It was recorded in August 1966 and released in January 1967 on their eponymous debut album. Released as an edited single on April 24, 1967, it spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in late July, and one week on the Cash Box Top 100, nearly a year after its recording.

A year later, it re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968 following the success of José Feliciano's cover version of the song (which peaked at number three on the Billboard chart), peaking at number 87. The song was largely written by the band's guitarist, Robby Krieger, but was credited to the entire band. The single was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in September 1967 for exceeding one million units shipped. As of December 1971, it was the band's best-selling single with over 927,000 copies sold. The single was certified Platinum by the RIAA in September 2018 for reaching 1,000,000 digital units.

The song originated in early 1966 as a composition by Robby Krieger, who said that he was inspired by the melody of "Hey Joe" and the lyrics of the Rolling Stones' "Play with Fire". On taking his initial composition to the band, John Densmore suggested that it should have more of a Latin rhythm, Jim Morrison wrote the second verse, Ray Manzarek added the Bach-influenced introductory organ motif, and Densmore suggested that it should open with a single snare drum hit.

The band started playing the song in performances in April 1966, and extended it with a jazzy improvisation. When the Doors performed the song at live concerts, Manzarek played the song's bass line with his left hand on a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass, while performing the main keyboard lines on a Vox Continental using his right hand. When they came to record the song later in the year, producer Paul A. Rothchild brought in session musician Larry Knechtel to overdub a Fender Precision Bass guitar to double the keyboard bass line. Rothchild also suggested that the recording repeat the introductory motif at the end of the track.

A German heavy metal outfit founded and fronted by powerhouse vocalist Udo Dirkschneider, U.D.O. emerged in the late '80s after Dirkschneider exited the popular power metal group Accept. Beginning with 1987's Animal House, Dirkschneider and a rotating cast of players carved out a huge swath of heavy metal real estate, averaging a full-length LP every year or so (2018's Steelfactory was the group's 16th full-length effort) and touring on the strength of an impressive catalog of European power metal that also included Accept classics like "Balls to the Wall" and "Fast as a Shark."

Inspired by the burgeoning American thrash metal revival of the mid ‘2000s, Denver, Colorado's Havok assembled in 2004, and proceeded to ply their backward-looking trade via a series of self-financed releases: a 2005 demo, a 2006 single, and a 2007 EP, curiously named Pwn 'em All. These efforts duly got them signed to Candlelight Records, which released Havok's debut album, Burn, in 2009 and then sent them off to tour with bands like Exodus, Anthrax, Destruction, Primal Fear, and Hammerfall. All of this roadwork only tightened up the band's impressive chops, and prepared members David Sanchez (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Reece Scruggs (lead guitar), Jessie de los Santos (bass, backing vocals), and Pete Webber (drums), for the recording of their sophomore album, Time Is Up (produced by thrash stalwart James Murphy: Death, Obituary, Disincarnate, Testament, etc.), which was released in early 2011. Michael Leon replaced de los Santos on bass for 2013's Unnatural Selection, which earned positive reviews and performed well on the charts. The band toured steadily during the rest of the year, and switched labels, from Candlelight to Century Media. Also, Leon left the band after three years, to be replaced by Nick Schendzielos of Cephalic Carnage. Havok's fourth album, Conformicide, was released in March of 2017.

Blah-Blah-Blah is the seventh studio album by Iggy Pop. Originally released in October 1986, on the label A&M, it remains his most commercially successful album to date. Blah-Blah-Blah appeared after a four-year hiatus for Pop, with David Bowie serving as his prime collaborator. It would be their final collaboration. A successful tour followed the album's release.

"Cry for Love", described by Rolling Stone as "a ripping fusion of classic Iggy rage, Bowie cabaret and unexpected romantic vulnerability", made No. 19 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music chart and No. 34 on the Mainstream Rock charts.

Emerging from Dayton, Ohio in 2010, Like Moths to Flames hit the ground running from their inception and haven't had the time to look back. The band came together after singer Chris Roetter (formerly of Agraceful and Emarosa) and bassist Aaron Evans (of TerraFirma) decided to collaborate after their respective bands had broken up. Not wasting any time, the two recruited guitarists Zach Huston and Eli Ford and drummer Lance Greenfield, and by the end of the year the band had signed to Rise Records and released its Sweet Talker EP. In 2011, the band made its full-length debut on Rise with When We Don't Exist, which found the fledgling metalcore outfit breaking onto the Billboard Heatseekers chart with its bludgeoning, breakdown-heavy sound. Recorded with Will Putney at The Machine Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey, An Eye for an Eye dropped in 2013, followed in 2015 by The Dying Things We Live For. In September 2017, Like Moths to Flames issued the single "Nowhere Left to Sink" in anticipation of the release of their fourth studio long-player, Dark Divine, which arrived later that October.
