A melodic, riff-forward doom metal unit based out of Arizona, Spirit Adrift is the brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Nate Garrett, who also plays with Tempe-based death metallers Gatecreeper.

Chained to OblivionA native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Garrett spent his formative years soaking in the Ozark Mountain city's surprisingly vital metal scene. Honing his skills in local bands and hitting the bottle hard, Garrett eventually relocated to Arizona where he sobered up, joined the popular regional death metal outfit Gatecreeper, and started his own band, Spirit Adrift. Fusing his love for Southern rock, classic doom metal, and traditional heavy metal, the project's debut album, 2016's Chained to Oblivion, evoked names like Black Sabbath, Baroness, Judas Priest, and even Thin Lizzy. A split with Denver doom rockers Khemmis preceded the release of the group's sophomore effort, Curse of Conception, which featured a fully fleshed-out band -- Spirit Adrift's debut was primarily a Garrett solo vehicle. 2019's versatile Divided by Darkness saw the band go all in on their neck-snapping amalgam of thrash, doom, NWOBHM, and melodic metal.

England's Fickle Friends make exuberant, sophisticated, '80s-style synth pop. Formed in Brighton in 2013, the group features vocalist/keyboardist Natassja "Natti" Shiner, guitarist Chris Hall, bassist Harry Harrington, keyboardist Jack Wilson, and drummer Sam Morris. Over the next two years, they built a loyal following in part by making over 50 live festival appearances. Nonetheless, by 2015 their manager had quit and finances were getting tight. Salvation came in the form of a recording contract with Polydor and the release of their debut EP, Velvet. From there, Fickle Friends began working on material in Los Angeles with producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema Club, the 1975), and by 2016 they had released the effusive, synth-heavy singles "Swim" and "Brooklyn." In 2018 they delivered their full-length debut album, You Are Someone Else, which included the previous released tracks along with several other spotlight singles, including "Hello Hello" and "Wake Me Up." Throughout that year, Fickle Friends issued a trio of singles, including the effervescent "San Francisco," all of which were later compiled into the EP Broken Sleep.

Pennsylvania "nu-core" quartet Tallah bring back the spirit of early-2000s nu-metal with gnarly riffs, whipcrack drums, electronic textures, and tortured vocals.

MatriphagyTallah was formed in September 2017 by drummer Max Portnoy (son of Dream Theater's Mike) and guitarist Derrick Schneider -- who had already played together in the band Next to None -- and bassist Andrew Cooper; they soon added second guitarist Eric Novroski (who would later leave to focus on his other band Toothless). Tallah's came about when a little girl wrote her own name on a list Portnoy had put up at a gig for fans to write down suggestions for the name of his new band. With the combined influences of classic nu-metal and contemporary hardcore, they had already written and recorded all the music for their debut EP before hiring a vocalist. Portnoy headhunted Justin Bonitz, having become aware of him through his online fame; Bonitz had won a competition created by internet star Jared Dines, and had recorded a string of popular cover songs. Bonitz joined the band on New Year's Day 2018, and had just six days to write lyrics for their songs before their first gig. He rose to the challenge, and created a dark conceptual suite of lyrics that would appear on their self-released debut EP, No One Should Read This. Tallah quickly became a sensation after the huge hype generated by the EP and their wild, chaotic live shows. At one such show, Bonitz started a fight with security (throughout which he continued to sing), was arrested, lost in the system for two days after a clerical error wrongly showed him as having been released, and was eventually found in a nearby prison. In mid-2020, Tallah released their debut full-length album, Matriphagy, through Earache Records. A concept piece detailing the tragic consequences of a mother's lifelong abuse of her son, it featured the singles "The Silo," "No One Should Read This," and "We, The Sad."

Making Metal Disturbing Again...

Emerging from Pennsylvania in 2018 and combining the percussive force of second-generation drummer Max Portnoy with the pure, war-torn fury of vocalist and YouTube sensation Justin Bonitz, nu-core quartet TALLAH are on a mission to revamp and modernise the much-loved sound of popular nu-metal sensations of the early 2000s.

Drawing influence from the musical influences of their youth (the likes of Slipknot, Korn and Linkin Park), Tallah fuse the razor-sharp precision of these acts with the raw edges of modern hardcore music displayed by current sensations Code Orange, Vein, Candy and Fire From The Gods.

Having followed Justin’s popular YouTube channel for some time - which boasts perhaps the most popular scream tutorial at approximately 3m views, “How to Scream (10 Different Techniques)” - Max approached Justin to join a new project with guitarist Derrick Scheider and bassist Andrew Cooper, both of whom Max had formed previous relationships with on the Philadelphia music scene.

The resulting explosion of chaos, controversy and metal innovation birthed the band’s first EP, ‘No One Should Read This’, which was recorded at Spin Studios (GOJIRA, LAMB OF GOD) in 2018. Following its release, Max received the Modern Drummer Award for “Best Up and Coming Drummer 2019” and the band performed at Boomtown Festival in the same year.

Tallah’s debut album ‘Matriphagy’ expands upon the concept outlined in ‘No One Should Read This’, armed with a disturbingly graphic tale that is to be taken both literally and metaphorically. Set to a pleasurably harrowing backdrop of brutally heavy musicianship, ‘Matriphagy’ is an unapologetic love-letter to chaos, and the sickening twist of the macabre.

Directed by Max Portnoy

Alicia (stylized in all caps) is the seventh studio album by American R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. It was released by RCA Records on September 18, 2020. Written and produced largely by Keys, the album also features songwriting and production contributions from Swizz Beatz, Ludwig Göransson, Rob Knox, Johnny McDaid, and The-Dream, among others. Alicia's mostly low-tempo and subtly performed music is rooted in the R&B and soul styles of Keys' earliest work, while her lyrics explore sociopolitical concerns and relationships with ideas from her contemporaneous memoir, More Myself (2020).

The album was originally scheduled to be released on March 20, 2020, then May 15, before being delayed further due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven singles were released from Alicia prior to its release, including the Miguel duet "Show Me Love", "Time Machine", "Underdog", and "So Done", featuring Khalid. In its first week, the album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200, becoming Keys' eighth top-10 release on the chart. It was also a critical success, with reviewers applauding her nuanced vocal performances and the balanced quality of her healing messages, as well as the music's accessibility. The singer is scheduled to embark on Alicia – The World Tour in 2021, after the 2020 dates of the tour were postponed due to the pandemic.
