Iggy Pop - "Shades" [Rock & Alternative]

"Shades" music video by Iggy Pop
Added: 22-10-2020
Genre : Rock & Alternative
Description : Iggy Pop official video for “Shades”, from the 1986 album Blah-Blah-Blah

Blah-Blah-Blah is the seventh studio album by Iggy Pop. Originally released in October 1986, on the label A&M, it remains his most commercially successful album to date. Blah-Blah-Blah appeared after a four-year hiatus for Pop, with David Bowie serving as his prime collaborator. It would be their final collaboration. A successful tour followed the album's release.

The collection included a cover of Johnny O'Keefe's "Wild One" (here titled "Real Wild Child (Wild One)" and three original songs co-written with ex-Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.

Described by AllMusic as "the most calculatedly commercial album of Iggy's career", Blah-Blah-Blah was certified gold in Canada (more than 50,000 copies sold). In the U.S. it peaked at No. 75 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart. Rolling Stone's contemporary review complained of a "nagging homogeneity to side one" but continued that "even at its most familiar, Blah-Blah-Blah is as spiritually outraged and emotionally direct as commercial pop gets these days".

The artist returned at the end of the 2010s with Real Life (2019), by which point she also had numerous Top Ten entries as a featured artist, including Chipmunk's "Diamond Rings" and David Guetta's "What I Did for Love."

Combining a strong visual component with dreamily produced songs, sophisticated indie songwriter Gus Dapperton became known for colorful narrative videos and lovestruck songs that channeled '90s influences. Working with mostly analog instruments and playing, arranging, and recording everything himself, the artist released songs online when he was still in his teens but began to break through with the 2017 single "I'm Just Snacking." The song and its viral video caught on, and before long Dapperton was touring and being asked to create a song for the Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why. This exposed him to even more legions of fans, and he quickly followed his 2019 full-length debut, Where Polly People Go to Read, with 2020's Orca.

SYML is the moodier solo venture of Barcelona frontman and Seattle native Brian Fennell. As SYML, Fennell is more textural and sensory than Barcelona's piano rock, framing his quiet, introspective songwriting in low-key synth-augmented soundscapes with austere piano parts and spectral vocals. Debuting in 2016 with the Hurt for Me EP, SYML found success with song placements in a number of high-profile television shows like Elementary, Scream, and Teen Wolf. Subsequent singles "The War" and "Mr. Sandman," a surprisingly dour cover of the 1950s doo wop chestnut, found SYML exploring heavy and ominous themes, though his 2017 follow-up, "Where's My Love," was an altogether more buoyant, folk-inspired track. "Where's My Love" proved to be a hit for SYML and over the next year, it was rolled out in a variety of different forms including an acoustic version, a solo piano version, a Sam Feldt electronic remix, and a duet with Lily Kershaw. The original mix appeared on SYML's 2018 EP, In My Body. In 2019, Fennell issued his eponymous full-length debut SYML.

Edie Brickell was a pioneer of sorts, reviving the gangly sound of hippie folk-rock in the late 1980s, just before it became trendy. With her band New Bohemians, Brickell scored an unexpected Top Ten hit in 1988 with "What I Am," a dreamy, loose-limbed number that quietly stood in opposition to the heady materialism of the '80s. While the band never managed to replicate the commercial success of "What I Am," the song remained a staple of its era, and Brickell parlayed its enduring popularity into an unpredictable career that stretched over the decades. Following the disbandment of New Bohemians in the early '90s, Brickell spent some time on a solo career before experiencing a renaissance in the 2010s, first with the Gaddabouts and then with a series of albums with Steve Martin -- a stretch that culminated in the 2018 reunion of New Bohemians.

Taking a cue from youthful folk revivalists like Laura Marling, Mountain Man, and the Pierces, Watford, England's the Staves blend the wistful cadences of classic British folk with breezy, Laurel Canyon-era Americana. The trio was formed in 2010 around the talents of sisters Emily (vocals), Jessica (vocals/guitar), and Camilla Staveley-Taylor (vocals/ukulele), who first learned to harmonize by singing along with their parents' record collection, dominated by the likes of Simon & Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Emily was only 14 years old when the siblings made their live debut at a neighborhood pub's open-mike night, but they were well received and began appearing on a regular basis. They released their debut EP, Facing West, in 2010, and the same year they performed as backing vocalists on Tom Jones' 2010 gospel collection Praise & Blame.

The year 2011 produced a pair of EPs, Live at Cecil Sharp House and Mexico, which brought them to the attention of the major labels. The siblings signed with Atlantic Records, and capitalizing on the buzz created by their well-received debuts, they spent the beginning of 2012 supporting acts the Civil Wars and Bon Iver in North America. Arriving later that year, their first full-length outing, Dead & Born & Grown, was produced by Glyn and Ethan Johns. The fall of 2014 saw the release of another EP, Blood I Bled. The title track was a preview of the album If I Was, which was produced by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and released in February 2015. It landed them in the Top 20 of the Billboard Americana/Folk and Heatseekers Albums charts, and resulted in a tour with Florence and the Machine and an appearance at Glastonbury. The EP Sleeping in a Car followed in 2016, and a year later, Nonesuch issued The Way Is Read, a collaboration with chamber group yMusic that featured both Staves' originals and reworked yMusic compositions.

Listen to "So Cold The Night" -

The Communards were a British pop duo, active from 1985 to 1988. They are most famous for their cover versions of "Don't Leave Me This Way"[3] and "Never Can Say Goodbye".

The name Communards refers to the revolutionaries of the 1871 Paris Commune.

Communards is the debut album by The Communards, released in 1986 on London Records. The album was produced by Mike Thorne, who had previously produced lead singer Jimmy Somerville's earlier band, Bronski Beat. Although the singles released ahead of the album were only moderately successful, the first single to be lifted from it after release, "Don't Leave Me This Way", was number one in the UK for four weeks and was the top-selling single in the UK that year. During the single's four-week run at number one, the album itself reached a chart peak of number seven, going on to spend a total of 45 weeks in the UK Albums Chart.

Musically, the album contains tracks that largely fall into one of two styles, either Hi-NRG (all of the singles lifted from the album were in this style) or piano ballads showcasing the talents of Richard Coles, a classically trained pianist. The standard "Lover Man" is arranged as a straight jazz number, albeit with the unusual twist of being performed as a duet.

Sweden's Mörk Gryning (which means "dark dawn") was formed in the early-'90s by the multi-talented duo of Goth Gorgon (guitars, bass, keyboards, screams) and Draakh Kimera (vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums), who set about recording their ambitiously complex black metal on 1995's Tusen År Har Gått... and 1997's Return Fire. Unable to find capable musicians to round out a reliable touring lineup (among other problems), Mörk Gryning's career stalled for a few years leading up to 2001's long-awaited third opus, Maelstrom Chaos. Counting with the aid of guitarist Avatar, bassist Jonas Berndts, and drummer Nagys, the album's grand sonic vision did not disappoint, and countless new fans were converted to the group's cause during their powerful performance at the next year's Wacken Open Air Festival. Come 2003's equally diverse fourth effort, Pieces of Primal Expressionism, Mörk Gryning had returned to a more economical duo format, with only Aeon (synths, mellotron) added for support.

Taking the bulk of their thematic inspiration from the fantasy world of author J.R.R. Tolkien, Italian power metal combo Wind Rose align themselves in particular with the Dwarven race. A mix of sprightly symphonic and folk-metal, the band spent the mid-2010s rising the ranks of the European metal community, paying allegiance to the Dwarves in both song and appearance before the success of their 2017 track "To Erebor" brought them greater visibility. After signing with Napalm Records, they became a viral success with the Dwarf anthem "Diggy Diggy Hole" from the 2019 album Wintersaga.

After making his name as a film actor in the latter half of the 2010s, Texas native Caleb Landry Jones launched his music career in 2020 with the experimental, neo-psychedelic album The Mother Stone.

Born in Garland, Texas to a long line of fiddlers, Jones eschewed the instrument of his heritage, drawn instead to the exploratory pop of the Beatles' White Album and the ramshackle psychedelia of Syd Barrett's post-Pink Floyd solo work. Although he became known as a film actor with roles in movies like Get Out and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, he remained devoted to his music, recording hundreds of D.I.Y. demos in his parents' barn, some of which were eventually heard by director/musician Jim Jarmusch. At Jarmusch's recommendation, Jones approached Sacred Bones Records, which added him to their roster and paired him with producer Nic Jodoin (Black Lips). Released in 2020, Jones' debut album, The Mother Stone, was an expansive, psych-driven collection of experimental rock.

A melodic, riff-forward doom metal unit based out of Arizona, Spirit Adrift is the brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Nate Garrett, who also plays with Tempe-based death metallers Gatecreeper.

A native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Garrett spent his formative years soaking in the Ozark Mountain city's surprisingly vital metal scene. Honing his skills in local bands and hitting the bottle hard, Garrett eventually relocated to Arizona where he sobered up, joined the popular regional death metal outfit Gatecreeper, and started his own band, Spirit Adrift. Fusing his love for Southern rock, classic doom metal, and traditional heavy metal, the project's debut album, 2016's Chained to Oblivion, evoked names like Black Sabbath, Baroness, Judas Priest, and even Thin Lizzy. A split with Denver doom rockers Khemmis preceded the release of the group's sophomore effort, Curse of Conception, which featured a fully fleshed-out band -- Spirit Adrift's debut was primarily a Garrett solo vehicle. 2019's versatile Divided by Darkness saw the band go all in on their neck-snapping amalgam of thrash, doom, NWOBHM, and melodic metal.
